Is it still considered cool to hate on Smash Brawl?

I don't care what you think about about or thought about brawl before, PM saved brawl from being trashed even more than it would've been without it.

Think about this. What do people talk about smash 4 as?

People did that BEFORE PM as that smash game that was killed by tripping and Meta Knight. After PM a lot more people were talking about the game positively and not like it was a meme.

Everyone can look back on Brawl fondly because no one that likes it actually has to play it how it was, they can just play PM.

well project m was just a modified smash game, but even then, fan games always make things a little TOO faithful to the point that the attacks are just too flashy, overpowered, and don't flow well together nicely. sakurai doesn't autistically try to make every single jab, tilt, and smash attack faithful to the character because he knows it's detrimental to the gameplay. sometimes generic looking tilt attacks are just the way to go.

I can appreciate that sakurai tries to make sure that above all, the moves feel good to use but I'd be lying if I didn't say some of his characters feel really uninspired. I wish he'd at least try to make some characters a bit more faithful.

of course, but it's better to find a good balance between faithful and practical. project m didn't feel good to me because every attack had to be some shit the character did in an original game, even if it doesn't feel good. I don't blame the fan modders because they're not some big studio and being paid 6 figures and they can't perfect everything even if they're only modifying an existing game, and they still did well overall. but it won't change that it just feels unrefined compared to the original to me.

I mean it was on a shitty little handheld so that's not really a fair comparison. for a handheld smash it was the best it could have been. at least smash run was a lot more fun than smash board.

Yes, Brawl had horrible gameplay. Subspace was cool though.

I cannot remember them changing a character as much as Wario who feels great with his amazing tech chase shoulder bash and ground pound dair, along with the vastly improved chomp which let you hit actual combos. His down smash was still useless but at least offered flavor by being the Shake-It! earth punch.
Only time they changed a move for the worse that I remember is Meta Knight having his downward thrust from Kirby, which ended up so broken for camping it had to be reverted to the Brawl one.
