The working theory seems to be that it was supposed to be in development and announced sometime within 2021, or close to it anyway. and then covid fucked up the development.

I reset to last checkpoint after using a skeleton key then the guard came by and suggested bribery. it reset to before the entire griffin quest.
beating the griffin doesn't auto save. beating the first phase doesn't save. nothing in the blue tower auto saves. using the teleport stone doesn't save. getting imprisoned doesn't save.

Covid fucked things up for DMC5SE and those versions are bare bones with a small team. Japan is also a bit behind the times with offices and tech, they still use fax machines as an example. Also because the vaccine didn't really take off in Japan, they chose to mask up and do other things like no noise at events. This has likely extended to work places too. Hopefully 10 year anniversary will be the reveal as E3 is dead.

Elden Ring is repetitive after 3 hours

Not him but DD does a lot of things better than ER. The battle system in DD is perfected and works flawlessly with every in game class and skill. ER has too many unbalanced systems and the battles ranges between great to poorly designed. The story in DD is more captivating, but it does often plays it safely. In ER a lot of the lore is executed very poorly despite having great character design and introductions. If DD2 were to happen anytime soon and it decided to keep its fundamentals, it will indeed beat ER completely.

Elden Ring gives a good idea of what DD could be like. In DD1 there are quite a few little hidden areas dotted around the world map but nothing really there bar a chest maybe. In Elden Ring it would be a dungeon. Plonk a DD game into that world and you would have the goat.

BotW's world interaction is head and shoulders above the other two. Cutting down trees, making fires, building bridges, climbing cliff faces. Weather having gameplay effects such as lightning striking metal, hot/cold. Those are the elements I'm referring to for BotW.
