Not False

and yet none of these are as rewarding as reading a good book:)

yes and dustforce is easily the best on that list

some who try to do different things and behave more like a pc game instead of 4th generation console crap are alrgiht

A lot of them are pretty great and remind me of when games used to be passion projects by a small team of developers.

What's the one in the middle?

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

Sure? Kentucky Route Zero is shit but the rest of those are okay to great.

This

oh, it just super meat boy lol

It's Super Meat Boy but way better, with deeper mechanics and longer levels
Not a bad thing

Only one of these has any worth at all and that's only because of how non repetetive it's nature is and the linear,non-videogamey ,story-telling element that is the meat and bones of it.

>Dustforce is shit
more like you have shit taste you fucking faggot
if you don't like """videogamey""" go away from the fucking video game board and hobby bitch fuck shit retard

Dustforce is a movie game.

so we're just sayin words now are we

I don't like tv series but that doesn't mean I call each one in existance shit or overrated. many of those games have inherent value anyone can see, even if they don't like it. maybe one day you'll grow up to realize not only your favorites can be good.
what's middle?

>SSX 3
the best SSX, going down the whole mountain without loading screens blew my mind as a kid

>what's middle?
Looks like Kentucky Route Zero.
it's a point and click with a really good atmosphere. Strongly inspired by things like Twin Peaks.

Good taste, if there were more tiles I'd add Crosscode and INFRA

please kill yourself tonight or else something bad will happen

>Strongly inspired by things like Twin Peaks.
You say that like it's a bad thing.

>You say that like it's a bad thing.
No, not really. I'm a massive fan of magical realism in general, Twin Peaks is one of my all-time favorite shows, and while I think Kentucky Route Zero has nothing on games like Pathologic, it's still a very charming little distraction, definitely something I'd recomend to people who are into that sort of moody shit.

Dustbros...Spire never ever...

Some are, but most are just shovelware. And the ones that are good typically just rip off old SNES games and don't really do anything unique, or interesting.

fucking rip
At least Lifeformed continued to compose for other games

With AAA, I can take one look at a game and realize I already played this exact thing but with different character names and older graphics.
Indie games at least still sometimes surprise me.

Name one SNES game like UnderRail, Rain World, Noita, Obra Dinn, or Outer Wilds.

Pretty much zero of the good indie games are ripoff of snes games. that's the recipe for failure not success.

It probably is the best, but not easily

A few come to mind like Shovel Knight or The Messenger

My favorite vidya track of all time.

those aren't the indie games people talk about as standouts though.

messenger wasn't possible in SNES era, additionally

Any Factorio fans here?

Attached: Factorio zoom out.webm (1134x600, 1.3M)

It doesn't matter that it wasn't possible, it takes all of its inspirations from that era is what's important here.

no it isn't, you retards

Missed a spot.

As soon as I start listening to this track I can almost hear the sound of your character slam dashing into the ground

>Taste this bad...
Suicide. Stat.

>It doesn't matter that it wasn't possible, it takes all of its inspirations from that era is what's important here.

? of course it matters if it was remotely possible

saiyng "copy SNES game" means copy SNES game not be inspired by 16 bit mechanics

biggest goalpost move ive seen in fucking years

>those aren't the indie games people talk about as standouts though.
Actually, people did talk about Shovel Knight as a standout for indie / kickstarted games a lot. It's the main reason why so many people still parrot the "hur dur all indies are just SNES game compies" in the first place. It left a big mark.

With that said, obviously people who actually DO play and follow indie games have moved on from that eventually.
Among people who not only don't play indies, but are straight up insecure about their existence, it became the big meme they can hold on to and cope.

Kentucky route 0

>It left a big mark.

No it didn't. It was moderately successful in its time and has no legs among people who discuss outstanding video games

Shovel Knight isn't a Rain World. That's a standout. Selling some copies doesn't make you relevant

He didn't say copy he said rip-off
Ask him what he meant by that but I think you're just arguing semantics for no other reason than to prove me wrong

Rain World's also probably the best game ever made, so that's not saying much.

Attached: Rain World advanced mechanics.webm (454x298, 2.85M)

a game drawing basic inspiration from the 16 bit era while exceeding it in mechanics and possibilites does not mean it's a rip-off either

i'm not making any semantic argument, he was just fucking wrong

the messenger has nothing to do with snes era games...shovel knight is a nes ripoff yeah, messenger is not applicable, the game was not possible on consoles of that era, nor were mechanics evolved to that level, period

talk about the shit when you were there rofl

I love it but it really, really isn't anywhere near the top. A game with built in frustration as an ideal in what it wants to achieve is by nature limited in its greatness

It's my favorite game for sure.
Alongside Crosscode which takes the second spot.
I'm surprised everyone knows Dustforce but no one knows Cloudbuilt.

Any DESYNC gamers here?
I just stumbled on this and enjoyed 100%ing it.

only shadowrun on sega megadrive comes close to underrail

Why haven't you played Cloudbuilt yet, Yea Forums?

>No it didn't. It was moderately successful in its time and has no legs among people who discuss outstanding video games
Shovel Knight was a massive break-away title that gained enough traction to start really trending on social media. That is why most people on Yea Forums only know this game, and still assume that is literally the extent of what Indie games can achieve.

You can argue that games like RainWorld are more acomplished. But they are also far less accessible, and thus gained far less traction among the mainstream social media and major game journalism outlets.

Selling copies does not make you relevant, but gaining the right media and social media coverage does. It's what 90% of people here - and 95% of people in general, actually care about.

Sure, there are games that stand out more for those who actually have that already invested interest in the indie market. Aside from RainWorld, you have games like Factorio, Zachatronics games, Creeper World series, Kerbal Space Program, MegAquarium, Workers and Resources, Pathologic 2, Project Hospital etc. etc... but those are really only relevant to the relatively speaking small subset of people who go out of their way to look for interesting titles in the indie scene.

But those games won't capture the attention of the main-stream discourse the way that Shovel Knight did. Usually because they are more niche oriented and less accessible in general.

And that is why so many people around here still parrot the whole "Indie games just copy SNES games." It's a simple, sad but undisputable reality of the situation.
