Yeah, you get a lot of players. Even Splatoon 1 was alive for a good amount of time when S2 released.
The only bad thing is there's no more splatfests so no easy grind for the snail shit but it's not that big of a deal if you just want to play some games.

ARMS does indeed have people playing but only Party Matches, aka casual/non-ranked. Not discarding the possibility that low tier and really high tier ranked are active but mid tier ranked, like around level 13 to 16 is a fucking ghost town. Something like Pokken doesnt have this problem but the catch is that the game isn't reluctant about matching you with A or even S rank tryhards even if you're only a D or C if it can't find a fellow scrub to match you with.

I honestly never bothered playing it ranked, it just felt pointless to me.

You missed out desu. During the time I played around late 2019 and early 2020 I developed soft rivalries with a couple of people where we would just rematch for hours on end. Unlike Trash Ultimate faggots they were actually interested in challenging themselves and improving so they didnt call it quits once they won once/twice or recouped their losses. 1v1 with sets of two can turn into incredibly high pressure tests of mental endurance.

I had this forgotten about. Pretty funny people think another platform is coming and not a pro when they are just releasing this.

Thinking about getting into this, I don't currently have a way to hook up my Switch with ethernet. How bad would it be on wi-fi if my Switch is right next to my router? I've had no experience with the Switch's online.

I played both 1 and 2 without ethernet and it went ok
2 in particular didn't have many issues

Single player campaign in 2 felt pretty bare. I did like how you could use any weapon type when replaying levels though.

What justifies this being a full sequel?

Octo Expansion is very good but it’s DLC so unless you intend to pay for a full price game plus a decent bit extra just for single player content it’s not worth it. I’d only consider it if you wanted to play multiplayer as well since 2’s vanilla campaign is quite bland.

I wonder if we’ll get another single player DLC like Octo Expansion, Nintendo does DLC for pretty much all of their games now so I’d say we’re very likely to get one but honestly I wouldn’t mind if a DLC was a really fleshed out new multiplayer mode or something instead of single player.

Overwatch 2 should also be a new game rather than just an update to the base game. Even before this point they had changed the game enough that Overwatch 1 essentially doesn't exist anymore. The point of a sequel is to be able to make substantial changes without having to destroy what currently exists in the process. Perpetual updates are done to force you to move forward, rather than for your benefit.
