Alright I have EmuDeck set up and I'm gonna throw Metroid Prime 1-3 on it for Primehack. Anything else I need for this thing?
Also just a Steam Deck thread in general

You could get xbox/ps3/and switch set up
>ps3/and switch
Is the Deck actually good enough to play most titles? I'm sure it could play Metroid Dread since that game will run on anything, but other games I'm not so confident on
It runs mgsv and er better than my big rig.I got demons souls running and patched it. The start of a level has some lag but it goes away later. I'm downloading ass creed 1 and AC:FA since I saw the performance was pretty good.
Xbox works well if the games have run well before if its famously hard to emulate youre gonna have trouble.
I got ps2 running and only have issues with mgs3 and from what i can tell those are similar to pc.
Doing the initial setup on my deck while reading this thread. Can I do emulation without getting rid of the original OS? I don't wanna tamper so much but I'd love to get the most out of my deck in terms of making it the emulation station. Can you give me any pointers?
What made you want to get rid of the os
>Can I do emulation without getting rid of the original OS?
Yeah, got to Discover and download the emulators you want. While you're there get flatseal to make managing file permissions easier.
If PS2 doesn't work:
>Open Konsole
>pkexec flatpak update --commit=84bdc9896bb9e5b9c47024d899fdec7bd1243d2724359b119f64970bbf96ee29 net.pcsx2.PCSX2
Literally just follow this guide, covers most of what you need
youtube.com
Also I haven't gotten to it yet, but the most recent version of PCSX2 I hear is real fucked on the Deck in terms of performance, and another user gave this advice for nabbing a previous version that works better
>Open Konsole
>pkexec flatpak update --commit=84bdc9896bb9e5b9c47024d899fdec7bd1243d2724359b119f64970bbf96ee29 net.pcsx2.PCSX2
I'll have to give RPCS3 a shot. Maybe Folklore will be playable
a lot of the times anons are coming into these threads asking "oh wow the deck can emulate that" when generally the limits of its emulation aren't tied to hardware but the very limits of the emulator themselves. For non native linux games running through proton thats a different story.
test
what ps3 game are you going to emulate first, bros? :)
how do i add pirated windows games as non-steam games so that i can use proton with them in gaming mode?
youtube.com
Check this out. Seems alright. This is something I mention every thread but with RPCS3 and other emulators, please fuck around with power settings. Shadows of the Damned could not hold stable 30 at 14w, but could at 9w with the GPU set to 600mhz. This checks out as RPCS3 is more CPU intensive so allowing more power to go to the CPU is going to improve performance.
I really wish someone would do a full translation of Natsuiro HaisukuruSeishun Hakusho ~Tenkou Shonichi no Ore ga Osananajimi to Saikai shitara Houdoubuin ni Sarete ite Gekisha Shounen no Hibi wa Sukuupu Dairenpatsu de Igai to Motemote nanoni Nazeka Mai Memori wa Pantsu Shashin Bakkari toiu Genjitsu to Mukiainagara Kangaeru Hitonatsu no Shima no Gakuen Seikatsu to Sekirarana Koi no Yukue.~ already.
What do you mean? PS3 emulation generally prefers a six to eight core setup. The Deck is four core. Lots of games will be shut off from that alone, that's not a fault of the software.
I tried:
Eternal Sonata
Tales of Xillia 1 and 2
Tales of Graces f
Ar Tonelico 3
And they work really well. Its also because those games are not on modern platforms
Now I just need 360 emulator to work to play that Lost Odyssey
It seems to work well on Windows so that's promising. youtube.com
Really? Hyped then.
I forgot about Shadow of the Damned. Ill try pic related too plus Wet. There are quite a few ps360 titles that didnt get any remaster
I'd like to replay God of War 3 bit I doubt the emulator can handle that one. Still hoping for Sony to port ps3 games to Steam
If you try God of War 3, you should really try the power usage trick I mentioned. Also make sure you get the mods for the game. MLAA is very intensive and RPCS3 does a poor job at emulating it. With it disabled, games can nearly double in terms of performance. I'm not sure if it would be enough to get the game working, but if it did, that'd be cool.
God I wish this game was as fun as that webm implied.
The time you took to write the title you could have learned Japanese
>Anything else I need for this thing?
A glass of wine.
Yeah I will try that. I also want to test Siren remake (underrated game) and Uncharted 2.
I wish I could just buy one instead of having to register until they email me out of the blue in 6 months with a 3 day window to buy it until they remove me from the queue.
Will Sony make Spartacus service lr what ever os called for Linux? Id like to replay infamous games there
I think PS Now (which is being folded into PS Plus as a part of Spartacus) is already compatible with Linux but not 100% certain. It sucks though
>Primehack
You didn't beat it.
How do otome games emulate on this?
I dont see why they should have any problems. Just use proton GE, solved Persona 4, Somnium and other VN problems
can valve be sued for advertising the deck with strive even though it's unsupported?
tell me the truth anons, can i play my hgame stuff from /hgg/ & /hgg2d/ on the deck?
Strive works. Unsupported most of the time means problems with controls or something but Proton and the games get updated to work
i don't know about those, but sengoku rance works
So far I cant make Trails to Zero work
Haven't tried it yet, but another user said
>set the installer as a non-steam game to run through proton
>install game
>point Steam towards the installed .exe when done
ty brehs
I hate everyone who already has a Deck while I suffer without it.
Don't worry Q3 bro everyone's beta testing we'll all get quiet fan models
This is how I cope as well.
can the steam deck play obscure japanese hentai games without issues?
I got mine early and flipped it on ebay. You might be as disappointed as I was when it finally arrives.
Use lutris. Been playing FF14 Windows version with it
You seriously need to try it. Skate 3 was one of the games earlier reviewers said was unplayable at 60. And looking at performance stock that certainly seems true. Fucking around with power settings completely changes it though. Here's without tweaks.
Here's with. You could probably lower a bit since once you hit 11-12w, the differences in performance boost get smaller. 55-60 from 30-33 avg. At least from what I've tried
Is it normal to have kind of a sticky B button? I looked it up and it seems to be a common problem. Some people have said it fixes itself after a while.
I didn't have one. B button works just fine, just the position is a little awkward.
If it runs on WINE, it runs on steam deck.
My still works, it just kind of gets stuck if you press down on it at a certain angle. I'm really hoping it does fix itself, I don't want to have to send it back.
Maybe there is just gunk stuck in it? You could try opening it and cleaning out the B button manually. I hope you don't have to send it back too. Valve RMA seems like a pain in the ass.
I've heard of multiple people contacting valve and saying that's an issue that requires an RMA.
Personally I would open it up and try to fix it than wait for the RMA process.
Yeah, I might just try and open it up myself it it keeps on persisting/gets worse.
I was able to patch dark souls with dsfix and this command on protonDB but how do i mod skyrim or fallout NV?
no idea if these run on wine, never used linux outside of lessons/sometimes work and only the cmd
This makes me nostalgic for another thread. I have very little experience with Fallout New Vegas modding but I managed to get Project Nevada working. Use this script github.com
You don't even need to open it up, some people claim they fixed it by sticking a small piece of tape at the top edge of the button to prevent it from sliding under the case, but I don't know if anyone posted a screenshot of how it looks
I just found the github and was gonna ask if its good to use. Thanks user.
Is it good for hooking up to a TV, connecting a controller and just using as an emulation console instead of a handheld? That's what I'd want one for.
Unfortunately no. At least not right now. From what I've seen, docking can be a bit buggy. It seems like Valve did not test it very well as some USB hubs don't work whereas others can cause issues with the Deck receiving charge. Not worth it until these issues are resolved.
That sucks, but it's going to be at least until October before it would even be available for me, and there's supposed to be an official dock soon so hopefully that should fix it.
That's true. SteamOS is rapidly improving. When I got it desktop mode was barely functional (end of March). The keyboard would sometimes refuse to come up, completely locking Steam features. Swapping between the two took an additional set of seconds. These were resolved within my first two weeks of ownership. Game compatibility stuff improved too. Switch fans were laughing about no Persona 5 Strikers and then like 2 weeks later, Proton Experimental finally got support for it.
Its good as a pc if you hook up a monitor and kbm
