Why is it whenever someone criticises a game I feel like they're trying to invalidate my experience and I need to attack them on behalf of the game developer?

normal person: Hmm I've been playing a lot of [x] genre, I think I'll do something different.
Youtube Essayist: I MUST MAKE A 2 HOUR LONG VIDEO RATIONALIZING MY EMOTIONAL STATE

you sound mad are you mad bro because you sound like it

>literally who has an opinion
STOP THE PRESSES!

I'm not.

I've barely played any open world games over the past decade. Unless you count something like Rabi Ribi or Hollow Knight, the only open world games I've played in that time are BotW and Subnautica.

Sounds like a skill issue to me. Get good at choosing your games.

Open World and Metroidvanias are so fucking tiresome. There's NOTHING interesting or rewarding about getting lost or backtracking.
The best game design is linear with optional challenge rooms.

>ironically voices opinion about literal who opinions as a literal who anonmouse

they all need to stop having
>ruins
>the aquaduct from the long lost advanced civilization
>flower picking and crafting

I disagree wholeheartedly, those are the best games. Getting lost and finding your way out is fun as fuck. Going back to old areas with new powers is great game design. Metroid Dread was GOTY 2021.

I was tired of open world games as soon as GTA 3 came out and it sucked dick.

>Go out and find where the game happens.

Hey I paid for the game, the game should be here, I shouldn't need to find it.

Why do most games that are open world feel like they don't actually give you options for your path and actively push you down a predetermined path,?

Waaaaaah I'm a "content creator" so I'm forced to play a lot of open world games which I obviously will grow tired of. Since I'm a normal person, I don't play every single fucking open world game that comes out so I don't have that fatigue. I wish these cunts would mention that. That being said, I don't like how games like say Tomb Raider 2013 evolved into semi-open world crap with crafting and shit. Linear games are good too.

>Going back to old areas with new powers is great game design.
Not it isn't, it never will be. Just put those challenges in new areas.

Sounds like you want your hand held instead of being able to do something yourself

100% true and accurate opinion
why should you have to find the gameplay somewhere out there

Always has been, always will be. Super Metroid is the pinnacle of game design.

You know, when you get down to it, this “banter” we engage in on this stupid website is pretty feminine and pointless. I guess that’s why we call each other “fags” all the time.

if there's a string of games you cannot enjoy playing back to back and can only appreciation many years down the line then something has got to give, make better more engaging games already

everyone should hate these bulk buy cheap 'entertainments' and demand more quality for the cash

I do which is why I don't buy open world game #2013990 every year. It's everyone else that can stop buying these things.

if no one puts forth constructive dialogue then yeah it's completely pointless banter

I can't play 5+ of any genre of games back to back without getting bored. Hell, I play 1 game and I'm done with the genre that game is from for a good 5 - 6 months.

then an influence should voice their opinion about that, so why even hate the player and not the game at this point
guy is basically saying how you really feel and you still felt the need to neg it

>conflating open world and metroidvania
jesus christ Yea Forums can't get any dumber than this

>constructive dialogue
>on a website where the whole point is that it’s anonymous and ephemeral
There can be no point.

Normal person expressing their opinions in a normal way
>yeah, I think BoTW has just had a overall negative effect on open world games. It's still a good game though!

zoomers on youtuber
>THERE'S A PROBLEM, AND WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT.
>X IS BAD, AND HERE'S WHY
>YOU'RE FAVORITE X SUCKS
>SICK OF X, TIRED OF Y
Don't forget to like this post and subscribe, don't forget I also have a patreon as well. By the way, did you know that I also have 4 podcasts? you can find me o

the only thing that exists is words, so if you end up just spouting nonsense then it will be a downward spiral

I never liked them. I trudged through BotW in the hopes of eventually seeing what everyone else did in it, but I made it to the very end, saw most of the content and was still just disappointed. Elden Ring felt like it dragged 20 hours longer than it should have

same thing exists on Yea Forums
>post thread about game no replies
>post about how the game sucks donkey through a straw hits bump limit

Metroidvanias are at the confluence of platformer and open world. Metroid itself was designed to be a mix of Mario and Zelda. As in, the very first Metroidvania, Metroid, on the NES.

Well yes this is Yea Forums

Maybe you should stop playing them then.

BotW had a positive effect on open world games since its release, though. Everyone's started shitting on Ubisoft because they've had a taste of something better.

Don't know how long you've been around but I can attest to the fact that people were shitting on the ubisoft formula long before 2017 my friend.

Kek

lol, Ubisoft rereleasing Farcry 3 and Assassin's Creed 2 over and over has been a point of contention ever since it started happening

I never wasn't tired of them. Having a million games that translate into giant open fields you have to wander around in, isn't interesting. I want linear, curated entertainment (potentially with some expansive aspects). Theres such a thing as TOO open.
Like op's mom

Welcome to capitalism, it's what you right wingers love so much

>He made another post

based & redpilled

If their tired of open world games then just play other genres? Open world games have existed for like 20 years and they will continue to be made just like shooters, puzzle games, the plethora of indie metroidvanias and rogue likes (but no ones tired of those right?), platformers and RPGs

No bro we need to talk about it okay

Based and true

Ok, you don't like video games, leave

i'm just tired of bad games, shitty hallway corridor designs are also garbage

so true

Is it really a 2 hour long video? Jesus. Heist.

:P

commit seppuku

Don't play them.
EZ

Then don’t play them? There’s like a billion RPGs that come out every year but I don’t get angry about it.

>If their tired of open world games then just play other genres?
Because all the series I liked are now changing themselves to be open world you faggot. Traditional Zelda is dead for open world, Mario Odyssey ruined itself by incorporating open world elements, Elden Ring has a lot of problems it only has because of the need to make it open world, Sonic Frontiers will probably suck ass since that's falling for the open world meme as well.

>Traditional Zelda is dead for open world
Links Awakening came out in 2019 and Zelda already had Proto open world games like Windwaker and it’s obvious that they desperately wanted Twilight Princess to be open world but couldn’t because of hardware limitations.

>Mario Odyssey

Mario has always flip flopped between being open and linear and Odyssey wasn’t any more ‘open world’ than Sunshine. Bowsers Fury was the true open world Mario and it was great.

>Elden Ring
One of the best Souls games yet precisely because it’s open world and allows the player to freely explore the world

>Sonic
Was gonna be shit regardless of it being linear or not

Thoughts on this open world map? What adjustments would you make?

Attached: Elden Ring Map 2.jpg (4200x4300, 3.74M)

It’s like it’s their job or something

>thirsting over jewish milkers
ISHYGDDT

smaller file size so i might click it

>Links Awakening came out in 2019
It came out nearly 30 years ago you stupid fuck. If remakes are good enough to satiate you then our standards are irreconcilable.
> Zelda already had Proto open world games like Windwaker and it’s obvious that they desperately wanted Twilight Princess to be open world but couldn’t because of hardware limitations.
AND THEY WERE THE WORST FUCKING PART OF THOSE GAMES

>Elden Ring
One of the best Souls games yet precisely because it’s open world and allows the player to freely explore the world
And yet it was still a massive step down from any of the previous From games, precisely because of the open world format. If this is the best open world has to offer then somebody needs to take this genre out back and kill it entirely.

Make another 2 LARGE areas.

Yup, and ots shooters through endless display of set pieces. Why don't people carea bout level design anymore?

I'm tired of open world being shoehorned into everything. If you want a game to be open world it needs to be a life sim with a heavy focus on worldbuilding and lore and plethora of options for the player on how to deal with any given situation. People can shit all over Elder Scrolls all they like, and that's fair, but it at least gets the core idea behind why you should have an open world right.
BotW was extremely shallow, focusing on freedom and a handful of largely superfluous features that wouldn't hold up in a game with any actual content or progression. Its open world came at the expense of everything else.
Elden Ring's open world is totally pointless and just spreads out the admittedly good content. Looking for things to do is not fun or satisfying, doing them is.
Witcher 3 is a checklist simulator and would've been better off as a telltale style VN.
RDR2 forgot to be a video game in its focus on being as boringly realistic as possible.
etc.

I'm halfway through the video, let me guess, he praises fart of the wild despite it having all the same problems that he complains about in ubisoft shit

And then there's the person who actually watches the whole video
