It's a longbow with barrage. Of course it should have some downsides.

There is not a single bite in the game that gets better scaling than [D] and not a single one can even be infused

Upgrade them.

They literally do not get higher then D

Golem gets to C in strength but yeah, bow scaling is fucked.
Still not as bad a crossbows though. From really just seems to hate the concept of ranged weapons. Or at least the concept of the player using them.

Crossbows still have the Pulley Crossbow, which buttfucks both PVE and PVP enemies with its status build ups FP-less barrage

Ranged is too difficult to balance around, because fundamentally ranged is just far and away better than melee combat. There's a reason projectile weaponry has always dominated warfare.
The problem is many devs feel like they have to put them in the game, then resent the way they trivialize the content, so find ways to fuck it over. Some just accept the reality and let it be broken.

Bows don't work in PVE anyways, half the enemies in the game will button read your bow attacks and dodge unless they are literally swinging at your face.

watching 3 enemies perfectly sychronize dodge my bow is fucking retarded.

Except it's the best general purpose bow in the game because it's a longbow with a shortbow moveset.

Imo that has always been my bow playstyle in DS anyway. Walt for enemy to start an attack and then shoot
I can't main a crossbow, I hate being forced into reloading

except they didn't fucking read you inputs to your bow's loosing every time, or really, ever.

I've played the dark souls games only recently and I can confidently say using a bow was WAY less cancerous in the DS games than in ER

its not even cancer, its straight up broken, as every enemy aggro'd to you will all dodge in concert with your bow's loosing, you'll never hit unless you aim to the left/right of the enemy, because they aren't dodging your arrows they're reflexively dodging your inputs.

same with Crucible knights and a dozen other enemies INSTANTLY attacking you with the perfect move to interupt healing, instead of a delay that would be more natural to an enemy "reacting" to it, like I player was.

there's no reason for light bows to not be legitimate weapons since you can spam sorceries so easily anyway. light bows are cool since they're supposed to be used in what is basically melee range in this game. the moveset just sucks. it encouraged jump shooting since that is the only good attack, instead of maneuvering around your opponent and filling them with arrows. not being able to put quickstep or other weapon arts like mists on them is retarded.

it's also telling that rock sling is one of the best spells in the game precisely because enemies dodge when you input the cast, but due to the delay their dodge is over by the time the rocks reach them

They usually don't cancel their animation though so as long as you dodge and attack you can shoot them

As someone who actually bothered with a full bow playthrough I wish they'd make it just a little better.
It was genuinely a lot of fun but the amount of grinding and the HP bloat in the endgame makes it not worth it unless you're gonna cheat the arrows in.
To put it in perspective, it took over ten arrows to kill a single enemy in farum azula.

kinda hilarious that the only legit sniper playstyle the game had didn't even involve bows but spells

it makes them look retarded, their input reading is so instant that it gives away the illusion that they are doding an attack, its more like if a fighting game just reads your inputs and always instantly punishes you.

its the biggest gripe I have, a ton of weapons and abilites DON'T WORK because of this, and others work TOO well like Rock Sling.

jar cannon is the only real sniping weapon

doubly so because the exact opposite is true for pvp
rock sling sucks dick in pvp because it's so easy to dodge it's just a waste of fp

meanwhile the fast cast spells that enemies dodge efforlessly are the ones that actually hit in pvp

You're supposed to manually aim to their side so they dodge into the arrow.

and even then it didn't have jackshit on madness snipers

because that makes any fucking sense.

Try bleed arrows, they're not half bad.

jar cannon can hit people out of visible range. madness sniping was just op since it was a one-hit cc. jar cannon still remains the best sniping weapon

or just toss kukri, just about the same effect, but faster

oh, I'm supposed to aim.. where they are dodging too? I thought they were dodging my attack!

instead I have to abuse their input reading instead of just playing the game.

in reality enemies should ahve a random number generator if they will read your inputs, or read them late, or at all.

instead of perfectly, every time, input reading me and dodging.

it looks bad, its poorly designed and invalidates playstyles, I wanna load up poison arrows before a fight, but its too much of a hassle.

No, of course it doesn't make any sense, but it works.

Are you coping with playing bow user

frenzied burst is also a pretty good sniper in itself due to it's great range and near instant travel time

Even with just D scaling, I still found bows useful for thinning out herds or racking up status like poison. I did nearly the whole fight with the godskin apostle in Dragonbarrow with poison arrows too.

I had a fully upgraded black bow with frost and bleed arrows. Still took forever.
Had to bring both fletched and unfletched stacks to Malenia

It's the reason they always have to make sniper rifles shitty

Don't mind me just got my Erdtree Bow +10 with Holy Arrows and 80 faith

*smites u from a distance*
heh nuthin personal

meanwhile spellcasters can easily get her down with 1 or 2 flasks

>uses frenzied burst with the same stats for far more damage and madness procs

>D scaling
>Split damage
Doubt

why is it okay for magic to be viable then

Bows are literally utility items, they're not weapons, they're tools.
They do fuck all damage, have actual upkeep with ammo, are slow as shit, and you never fucking hit anything with them anyway.
Hopefully one day playing as a ranger will be viable, but as long as bows are fucking shit, that day wont come.

I don't know why we couldn't get decent scaling considering how hard the health values go up in the late game. Even with the best arrows around you still deal zero damage to anything past the capital. It's bleed or bust.

They're at least fun in PvP since you can just run away and fire a running shot behind you every time they try to swing at you. I've also found people always just mash R1 when you stunlock them at close-range with Barrage instead of rolling out of it for some reason. I guess they think they'll win out any exchange against a bow once they're in melee range.

Because mage RP is more popular than archer. Also there are a lot of spells with different effects. Bows are just bows, and From are too lazy to add lots of cool abilities and moves for bows.

why bother with bows when this exists?
it scales with the same stats bows do, only it's ranged attack actually you know, kills things

I dont know mate archery is one of the staples of fantasy classes
I think its more likely that Miyazaki is just a hack who is afraid to change demons souls formula too much

how long did it take you guys to figure out that you can fire bows while jumping to the side?

And in all fantasy fandoms it's like 90% magetrannies and SUPER MANLY great weapon melee users.
Daggers, bows and other such things are the minority.
But yes Miyazaki is a hack.

Is sad because in the past games it was an interesting challenge run that really played differently than any other build. Sure you usually had to rush items fast and careful with your soul spending, but at least you could infuse them and they scaled. Clearly it was intended to pay this way too, if you go back to DS1 it even had the Darkmoon bow boss weapon that has base faith magic scaling. You could get almost 600AR w/ the right build (I just put softcaps in to compare the 4 possible ascension paths). Ammo economy is also awful in ER too sadly.

>25fp for a slow cast lightning spear
even a random weap with the pebble ash is better than that

in general, how often do you see fantasy where archery actually requires even remotely as much physical strength as it did IRL

Attached: Screenshot_20220422-230013_DuckDuckGo.png (1050x784, 214.39K)

I actually defaulted to using a bow to kill sulyvahn because I couldn't melee him down

Not sure I've ever seen it actually, outside of Sous games' greatbow classes lol

It shits damage and was buffed last patch, fagtard

take literally any fantasy game it guaranteed to have a legolas

WC3 sort of had a fun twist that the archery elves were tall, savage and muscled, does that count?

Yes but I'm talking about the split in what the playerbase gravitates towards.

Probably because you can't fire off 300 Glintstone pebbles of different elements at 2-3 times the distance. Even if you put all your flasks into cerulean you simply wouldn't be able to match the potential volume of projectiles you can have with bows. You could probably clear the entirety of Leyndell without resting at a site of grace once if you had sufficient reserves of different ammo and with projectiles buffed to match the damage of the average spell. Which is a problem because you can also fire at a range and speed where you don't have to engage any enemy.

Dragons Dogma had the patented legolas infinite arrow quiver. It would be interesting if it kept a running tally of how many total arrows you shot in that game. I always used the bound bow in skyrim because it automatically filled soul gems and I didn't need to waste time crafting arrows or looting the arrows back off dead enemies.

Is there any reason to use any other crossbow besides the pulley? Thing seems like it is in a league of its own

Composite bows that require STR to use have been a thing in DND since forever.

What are some good bow games?
Im an archer irl and never find them satisfying in vidya.

now try it in reality, they'll dodge almost all of them.

It makes no sense just how bad ranged weapons are in ER. Not only FP based ranged options are much better, they effectively store more ammo as well - you can deal many times more damage with leveled mind and 3-4 flasks than with your permitted 99 arrows, you will deal damage faster, and you don't have to bother with consumables as well (both have to bother with sitting at bonefire).

kek the pebble does x3 the damage of any arrow and you can rapidfire that bitch. Range is also irrelevant when bosses lock you into tiny arenas. Anything that can be cheesed with bow can be cheesed with magic. Miyazaki is just a faggot

I was hoping something like dex would improve firerate on bows. Was disappointed

you can fire 660 glintstone pebbles with max blueberry flasks and the right talismans

oh and don't forget how beating groups in the overworld gives you FP flasks back, when for bows you'd have to hunt wildlife

The ONE game Measaki makes that is actually set up for you to be a cool ranger in and HE FUCKING NERFS BOWS INTRO THE GROUND

I main a bow in duels. Bows are unironically quite good in PVP.

Attached: 1650055066441.jpg (618x664, 106.32K)

Don't post globohomo pictures thanks

They've always kind of been the PvP cheese. You can just use sorcery or anything people roll to dodge most of the time and a bow and just instatroll catch. I use to use homing crystal soul mass and a bow in DS1 and thought I was really good until I eventually rubbed my 2 remaining brain cells together and realized I was just being a massive prick.

Fromdrones WILL call this good game design

if you used magic and didn't default to shitting dark bead everywhere, you werne't a prick

Just reduce the ammo count to like 20 arrows

You will conform
