Are you retarded?

don't bother, everything good about maplestory died post-BB

Shit gameplay good community until social media killed it.
Then Big Bang drops and the game goes downhill as it rapidly devolves into a singleplayer game.

Wrong. Post-BB introduced way better bosses, better gameplay and objectively better music.

The only good things about pre-BB are the community, party play and the sense of adventure.

>The only good things about pre-BB are the community, party play and the sense of adventure
so you mean the only real reason to play an MMO?

That was the only selling point of the game.
Also the music didn't get better, it's good but not better.

>Then Big Bang drops and the game goes downhill as it rapidly devolves into a singleplayer game.
Have you actually played post-BB? How is it any more of a single player game than pre-BB Maplestory?

Pre-BB had PQs; does solving guess the number on the barrels strike you as compelling team-based gameplay or something?

I said shit gameplay for a reason. The team aspect was the only redeeming factor, I'd rather play guess the number on the barrels than infinite grindathon

What do you mean selling point? Maplestory is free.

Post-BB Maplestory actually feels fun to play, as in it's fun and challenging to fight monsters and bosses; many of them now being mechanically difficult. Pre-BBs gameplay was just spamming the same 1-2 buttons over and over and over again, and all the bosses were just non-moving HP checks.

is bresnan now shilling post-bb?

I didn't mean literal selling point you actual fucking autistic retard. Like Jesus, you really have never left your house in years.
The only reason people played the game was for socialization. That is dead in post-bb.
Probably.
I know the economy in post-bb is fucked now due to nexon banning all of the bots, and now it's even more of a p2w grindfest than it used to be.

all the trannies love post-bb as well since there is more anime dress up

it turned an already repetitive game into the worst kind of soulless grindcore korean mmos that followed

>I said shit gameplay for a reason
The reason is you didn't actually play post-BB.

youtu.be/NuwazoXnM-8?t=404
youtu.be/qBGFJT7Sc84?t=32

again, refer to the above.
nuMaple bossing is genuinely mechanically challenging, and light years ahead of preBB in terms of gameplay

Pros
>wide variety of classes that each have their own mechanics and ways to maximize damage
>game encourages trying out various classes through legion and link skills
>plentiful events that can help a new player boost their strength at a faster rate
>great music and locales
>mmo so it receives major updates twice a year, said updates usually contain a new area and character
Cons
>you will not have a life outside of maplestory if you want to tackle high level content
>one of the requirements in later zones is gated by dailies, for the black mage you need to have 1320 arcane force which is several months of dailies
>potential and starforce are complete shit when it comes to getting good lines
>if you're on regular bonus potential and scrolling are another step to perfecting gear
>if you're on reboot upgrading any item past 17 stars is a huge risk since you need to earn another copy if it blows up
>everyone prefers to grind solo, you won't interact with players outside of towns/bossing/events
>you will spend 95% of your time in the arcane river/authentic force areas
>in order to maximize legion benefits you need 40 level 250 characters of separate classes, for the best buffs you also need to hit that on some of the worst classes
The highest level character I have is 246. I'm on a huge break at the moment, just logging a daily hour so I can eventually get the free level in June.

Yes, I said shit gameplay REFERRING TO PRE-BB MAPLESTORY. Post-bb is mostly just grinding and p2w to even afford to fight these bosses to begin with, which is the actual issue.

i remember playing years ago as a fighter, shortly after that clockwork place came out, and a whole bunch of vac hacks got made public. those two days were the most fun i had, a real pressure valve being released after heaps of grinding. didnt even get banned.

Don’t care still picking explorer and making a hermit

Anyone remember flexing in PQs as a pure luk assassin with +10 wa pwg and steelies.

>Post-BB introduced way better bosses
They're interesting mechanically, but there's too many 1HKO moves thrown around.

Idiot.

it might be more challenging but its soulless

I see this game mentioned sometimes as something that happened in the past, but I was looking at at the Google Play top earners and it's doing well. The mobile game anyway. I just got curious, so I looked around and apparently the game is still up. So why do people talk about it like it's in the past?

And it looks kinda shit, so why do people like it at all? Though the art does have it's charm I suppose.

See this looks cool.

>several months of dailies
That's literally nothing. It's already 1+ years of sacred force dailies and 99% of people can't even do the boss LMAO

The older version is best.
The new version is shit.
The game died when they expanded the map too huge and spreaded the playerbase too much.
It's a fucking social game, and if you removed the socialize element of it, then there's nothing left to it.

any time someone shits on big bang they always post reasons that were either before bb like cubes and op classes like db, or shit that happened really far after bb like how much faster and different the game is. bb through chaos patch was absolute peak maple. game started getting shit with legend patch but red finished it off.

I remember playing Pre-BB when you see an actually high level dude it was like seeing a unicorn and they were legit celebrities. Kind of how most MMOs in movies or anime are portrayed. It took a truly impressive amount of autism to get to 70, let alone push into the 100s.

It's literally the same now except the autism extends to 300 and only the most autistic of autistic can be bothered to do the grind with the EXP and meso penalties they put in place to force people to give up good maps.

>The only good things about pre-BB are the community, party play and the sense of adventure.
so the most important aspects of a mmorpg?

>The only good things about pre-BB are the community, party play and the sense of adventure.
So, everything important to an mmo.
Not helping your case.

i remember tracking tiger and stalking him in his map for no reason. good times

Reminder that Maplestory's soundtrack is now better than ever.

Idiot.

wow great comeback dude

Why is Maplestory's music budget so damn high now?

nu-maple tracks are too uncomfy

Explain how this is uncomfy:

youtube.com/watch?v=HOm_PhJ41jM

They are 100% correct. I dropped Maple for a long time after Big Bang hit. Came back years later with Lion Heart Castle and leveled and Aran. I dropped the game quickly because everyone fucked off to do their own thing unlike before. There wasn't anyone to chat up while I chilled or grinded which kept me around for pre-big bang Maple. In fact it was a very lonely road until I got to Lion Heart Castle. Before I'd encounter people in HHG1 or the Ant Tunnel and party up. It just wasn't a thing anymore.

nah they evolved perfectly with time. still feels like maple

>It's literally the same
Except it's not, the game shits out the first two hundred levels so fast that they feel meaningless (because they are) and class homogenization is at its worst with everyone having some form of flash jump/teleport and a thousand press x to awesome skills that blow up the whole screen for billions of damage.

Pre-bb most people gave up before even reaching second job and my fucking dragon knight class still existed.

I remember playing post-BB in 2012, and everyone was doing Romeo and Juliet PQ from level 70 - 120. That shit was fun. Also late game was LHC and Future Henesys parties. idk what people are talking about when they say it's a single player game.

fuck yeah it was fun. chaos patch was some of the most fun i ever had just shooting the shit and spamming RJPQ and LHC. they really don't make them like they used to, everything is too solo or queue based.

sounds like elevator music made for a drinking lounge

retard

I haven't played since v0.18, what's changed?

The game is honestly a corpse at this point, held afloat by massive whales. Nexon's realized that by removing the illegitimate hacks that players would use to do whatever with, they can just slap that on a paywall of time-limited pets that they keep bringing back here and there because they earn tons of money. Why let people break their game when they can earn money off it, right? I've heard you're likely to pull 1 pet to do that do that for you at a low low price of probably about $100-300.
That's just for your item collection.

The game used to be about making friends, being social, and exploration - all the fun stuff. But now they've just really shafted anyone who's not shelling out thousands of dollars for the game with the stupidity that is pretty much any content level 200+. It's become a massive solo-grind fest with the vaguest of supports in the forms of Bishop for extra xp gains, and other classes for their buffs of slightly faster attacks, more damage, or more defense. Literally no point in playing together anymore besides shooting the breeze with someone willing to be social with you (when they don't even have to be anymore - invisible logins are a thing now).

The game is all about just "muh numbers" nowadays - things individually are still fun, but to make any real progress you need to autism-grind and throw your life away because something somewhere is bad. Either your gear is trash, you don't have enough support for x100 exp rates earning 100k xp every hour, or you just haven't gotten lucky enough with whatever it is you need to do to inflate your damage to absurd amounts. I would love to try fighting these harder bosses like Lotus, Damien, Lucid, Will, Guardian Slime, etc - but when I apparently need 30k stat, 400% boss damage, 200% ied, 15m natural range to even have a decent fighting chance, paired with the literal weeks it starts taking to just earn one level, it's not fun anymore.

Attached: 1627173025091.jpg (464x618, 32.25K)

To be fair yeah, the new events are all about support and helping boost players at all states (usually) - plenty of scrolls, star force enhancement cheats, flames, cubes, what have you from event shops. But usually they're available only from level 100+ (not really an issue but older events literally used to let you be involved from level 13+, so you're kinda gatekeeping slightly)
Gear progression also feels so nonsensical. Am I SUPPOSED to focus on getting the highest Stat % ups on my gear's potential, or do I focus on getting more lines of other stuff like Critical Damage+, Att%, Damage%, Ignore Defense, Boss Damage?
There's so many cluttered parts in the damage formulas that it's hard as hell to gauge what realistically makes your character stronger. Not to mention, you aren't allotted a lot of progress as a free player. Sure, events are cool and all, but you're limited on what you can receive from those event shops. You can only get so many cubes before they really want you to fish out your wallet for stuff.

Hell, the existence of bonus occult cubes are just a slap in the fucking face. At least base occult cubes let you go to epic-tier on normal potentials, but not bonus potentials, we can't have the free players getting too strong. People are only allowed to have gear with Epic-tier bonus potentials or higher if they give us all their money.

Pair this with how the company just really phones it in and doesn't care anymore. It's obvious with how stuff just gets a half-year delay compared to non-Global Maplestory content. You can't have one region with too busted stuff so each game has to be the same. You can't let players get [item] because it gives too much of an advantage that other regions don't get. So they all have to be uniform and no one is allowed to get them back because the game is literally copy-pasted between countries.

Overall, it's neat because it's a pixel-based platforming MMORPG that's been alive since 2006 pretty much, with loads of diversity that has only improved over the years (tons of visuals for cosmetic gear or actual gear, plus 40+ classes or something at this point, lending to a decent amount of different playstyles and flows of gameplay). You can have some fun with it but not how the game / company recommends for you. Anything pretty much beyond 210 content is when you're locked in and don't want a life outside the game. It's a decent game but should honestly be closing its doors sooner rather than later and just letting people actually have an end-goal. It used to be 200, then they raised the cap to 250. Then they just said "fuck it" and raised it to 300 now. Just because the game is technically endless doesn't mean they should artificially make it even MORE endless. This game should honestly go the way of private servers and finally become a relic of the past at this point.

this the more buttons = game good people are morons

why did maplestory 2 die so quickly?

>reg player that doesn't understand how to progress
You can clear out every event shop with daily coins using your main and then 1 or 2 mules at most. For the premium shops you're best off getting scrolls first followed by bonus cubes or flames, depending on how many weekly bosses you can clear. Using any type of occult cube is completely useless because of the potential rank limit you mentioned, you're better off selling them to other players. People have made calculators to determine what the best lines are on your WSE, and you always have the option of buying one of the slots from other players to make it easier. The only one you can't escape cubing really is your emblem unless you're playing Kaiser or Angelic Buster. When it comes to actual cubing you're better off using red cubes until you get 2 really good lines, and then you use black cubes to perfect your gear.
>but i can't make mesos to buy gear or cubes
There's a shit ton of ways to make mesos each day. With enough dedication you can make about a billion a day, and after a couple of days you can purchase a good amount of cubes or a really nice piece of equipment. For example, right now a 2 crit line arcane umbra thief glove in Bera costs 25bil. That's on the higher end of gear to purchase due to crit damage being so valuable. Something more generic like a 27% LUK sup gollux ring only costs 5bil.

It's still alive in Korea but nobody really gave a shit about the game in the West.

I won't lie, I'm real bad at understanding the progress. It's tough for me to gauge what yields the better returns and all.
I appreciate the feedback - would you happen to know of like, any better sort of content like progression lists or calcs to use over others?

I remember trying one to dance around figuring out how to adjust my hyper stats and it was just rough. They only cared about high-tier potentials and really didn't want to care about any sort of lower-tier calculations. Hell, I think 7% lines, or maybe 6% were the lowest they would accept on some spots. Otherwise it was just higher lines.

game died and lost its soul over 10 years ago.

I aimlessly changed classes for years always stagnating at lv50 when I was a kid until Pirate came out. Then gunslinger fucking clicked as a class gameplay wise and I had the most fun making it to level 8x. Also I was 17 and found a msgf my age who was horny and down to cyber. good fucking times.

the shittiest aspect of the gameplay was there was no cooldown on potions ,so survivability meant fuck all as long as you can take a hit. it was literally just about going all offense and mindlessly kill enemies for 8 hours a day while you used almost all your mesos on refilling your potions. the community is the only reason we put up with it and because the skills and aesthetics were fun.

I usually play once a year when they add their annual new class.

Gameplay is fun and the progression is quite fast, but 90% of the content is useless. No reason to do party quests or regular ones. Most maps/enemies are irrelevant to your progression. It used to be a game that you would gradually level up and feel accomplished, now you play for a few days and you are already on the end game.

What stats you want ultimately depends on what the character is doing. Since it's super cheap to swap hyper stat templates, you can build one for grinding and one for bossing. Generally for bossing you want IED, Boss% and crit damage. Your legion also affects what stats you want, as IED gets weaker with each source you have. Legion can provide 40% when at max level so usually that, plus one line on your emblem and the bonus from any skills or hyper stat will be enough. Obviously if you don't have 100% crit rate you should put some into legion or Phantom's link skill to boost it up. %boss is great and so is %att, but you would want to split those evenly as well to get the numbers higher.
As you said, most people only care about legendary potential because that's where the best lines are. The only item I would recommend getting to legendary first is your emblem, as you are the only one who can modify it. Everything else, you can use master craftsman cubes from event shops, legion, and other sources to get to unique. For armor aim for at least 2 lines of your main stat. For weapons and emblems, generally at least 2 lines of %att and %boss will be good. If you can, try to scroll before cubing because you can transfer the gear around your mules to spam clean slate scrolls. You can purchase gear from other players, just keep in mind how all of your gear is progressing and try to focus on your weakest slot.
brendonmay.github.io/wseCalculator/
This WSE calculator is pretty decent, You just have to take your time to enter the stats in. Always keep the market in mind since it's there for you. If you see that someone's selling an item that has the potential lines you need and you can afford it, weigh the pros and cons of buying it, and if using the mesos now would save you from pulling your hair out over failing 40 cubes in a row.

Attached: 1633329350353.png (320x275, 44.72K)

I took a year off and only came a bit before the closing announcement, but I recall it was because of the increasingly RNG dependent end-game content, and progress towards that content was dependent on your dungeon runs, which were limited. UGC policies were apparently also more stringent. It turned from a very casual social game where you could just raid for fun, fish, and build stupid shit to just Maplestory 1 all over again and I'm assuming no one wanted to deal with that nonsense.

Still can't believe Nexon was found to not only be rigging Inner Abilities/Flames rates in MapleStory, but stuff like Reforges in Mabinogi as well
Actually that's not true, I can believe it
Fuck Nexon

nexon literally invented loot boxes and you're surprised by this

I appreciate the feedback - sadly, as a Shadower main, Crit Rate is actually one stat that fluctuates a ton randomly. Sometimes I'm 100%, other times I'm not - hard to gauge what it properly is normally (I think Prime Critical is mucking up the math there)

I'm fortunate enough that through my years of half-assed progression work, I've managed to pull off enough range (about 4.3m fully buffed) and around 230-250% boss - capable of ripping through all of Chaos Root Abyss besides Vellum comfortably. I can do a struggle clear on Lotus with friends but that's my ceiling for now. Proud of where I've gotten but I know I can do better so every bit counts.

I think that's actually the calc I tried out - found it frustrating because it suggested dropping my high investment of boss, stat, damage, and attack hyper lines all to just dump straight into IED instead, claiming it would up my range by about 500k or something. I guess the only real way I can make more progress is by digging harder from hereon.

Are reboot servers still absolutely broken?
