VR isn't something you should be looking at as a "waste" if you invest in controllers/headset. That's the appeal of Quest, since it's cheap and accessible, which will help fund the medium instead of gridlocking it to some hobbyist-tier bit that isn't ever going to take off because it costs as much as a new rig.

VR games are incredible, absolutely immersive and clearly a glimpse of the future but the tech isn't there yet. The software is fantastic but the hardware is holding it back - until technology advances to the point where you don't need a giant fucking dumpster strapped to your head then it's always going to be no from me.

Plus the games are expensive as fuck for what they are and 99% when I'm gaming I wanna just sit down and be the potato I am not jump around the room swinging my arms like fucking tarzan.

It is entirely possible for a new market to kill an existing one. If the Quest had never come out priced as aggressively as it was, the PC VR market would have continued getting bigger at a slow but steady pace. More and more impressive games would have come around eventually getting things to snowball. Now it has been stagnant because there is no incentive to make those sorts of games, which you will make far more money targeting the glorified phone VR device.

Put it this way. VR is the Wii 3.0 for people who don't play Nintendo consoles. It's just waggle and motion but this time with a screen strapped to your face. Its if the Wii had Motion Plus in both the remote and nunchuck and the "sensor bar" was built into the console and the controllers for support.
