no.. pokemon hasn't been good since gen 5
gen 6 was okay, kinda the beginning of the end where they made those shitty 3D models that didn't stay true to the original pokemon design aspects, introduced those extremely hand-holdy mechanics like "Chimchar avoided the attack in tune with your shout!" which assures that you can basically never lose a battle, and forced EXP shared which affects not only one pokemon, but your entire team, which assures that you will be modestly overleveled for everything the game throws at you. Also cutscenes galore, you watch more of the game than you actually play. And don't even get me started on the new open world bullshit. It feels like they tried to capitalize on the BotW crowd but.. didn't quite know what they were doing
but of course whoever the target demographic for pokemon is now, they eat that shit up and think it's fantastic. Good riddance

They're different games. The way a work looks and sounds can't be completely changed and still be considered the same experience. It's like someone reshooting a classic movie years later with the same scenes and script but different actors, soundtrack, ect. and asking people "what does the original have over the remake?". The experience is completely different. It's like asking what does an apple have over an orange. You can prefer the remake, but no one would say it replaces the experience of the original movie.
In other words, FR is not a substitute for Red. Saying that there's no reason to play Red because FR exists is no different to me from saying there's no reason to play Mario 64 because you've played Banjo Kazooie.

The game is shit and can't just put pokemon in another box, you have to manually change what box is active.

The Orange Islands feel like the only time fans actively wanted something from the anime in the games, you don't see that anymore.
