Devil May Cry 5

So what is the Yea Forumserdict after few years?
For me it's mainly two things:
>obviously rushed story, we needed like 3-4 more missions to flesh out Vergil and Nero's reaction to him being his father
>extremely clunky UI, no way to quickly restart missions, you have to dig through like 6 menu prompts if you decide not to use the golden orb/red orbs to ressurect, some secret missions being super clunky (stay in air for 15 seconds, why it fails when we land and we have to restart? even fucking Bayonetta 10 years earlier did this better by just restarting the counter), sometimes you have to wait for few seconds of a cutscene before being able to skip it while others can be skipped instantly etc. and sometimes loading times can get long even on strong PCs

Oh and not being able to play every mission with every character is also a big flaw that heavily reduces replay value.

>no way to quickly restart missions, you have to dig through like 6 menu prompts
Yeah I hated this too. They introduced it in 4 and I hate that they brought it over to 5.

It's fun. Still play it basically every day.

1 is still the best and the only good one. 5 is only second best because 3, 4 and reboot are that shit.

It's good, obviously flawed from trying to overcorrect themselves of DmC and please everyone, but I also wouldn't complain if it was the last DMC game. I hope there's another eventually.

Probably the worst story ever put in a video game, but that doesn't matter because the gameplay is great

It does it's job and the general ideas are good but it is extremely rushed obviously.
>no Kyrie appearance
>Eva has one 20 second cutscene even though she has entire model and clothes made
>it takes one hour in game time for Nero to go through full character development from learning Vergil is his daddy in an awkward forced drama conversation with Dante to some awkward rememberance of Credo and suddenly gaining demon powers and growing his arm back for some reason

This game's story feels basically like "here is the second half of DMC4 we didn't have time to make".

I like it because I participated in both "Yea Forums sings".

Yeah DMC1 is great. The only thing it could really use is maybe an extra outfit or two like later games. And maybe mission select.

Attached: DMC1 Super Dante.jpg (2560x1440, 238.03K)

MAYBE mission select? it's the only thing that keeps me from playing 1

DMC1 is great but it sadly suffers from being a Resident Evil game that changed it's direction halfway through development.

>downloads cheats
>turns up enemy health

Attached: c00.png (680x425, 179.71K)

>crappy story that tries to force a tearjerker out of you with a few (admittedly) cool moments and almost no build up or real resolution
>fucked up the flow of an otherwise excellent gameplay by making all the levels character-dependent.
Otherwise it is a pretty great game with great replayability value. I give it a 7/10. Where 5 is actually average, not gamer journalist shit level.

Attached: gee, I don't know.jpg (250x139, 4.02K)

It's a lot of fun and feels good to play, but it's boring and grey to look at, and I wish it wasn't.
For all the effort they seemed to put into making the characters feel more "grounded" and inserting lots of little cutscene moments to flesh things out, it all still feels disjointed and awkward. DMC games all do this thing where it's like they're forever hinting at a larger story, and at character things that happen completely off screen.

it was complete shite, I loved the first few dmc as well, was hoping to get back in but this was short shite with maybe 1 story event happening the entire game
I tried so hard to refund this shite...

>5 is just V through the sewers, make it a bigger maze
>save the boat for 6 so it isn't solely the Gilgamesh fight, and make better use of the port before it
>a mission where V constantly loses health because he's dying, for the sake of tradition
>18 should have been Dante and Nero Co-op and Dante leaves him behind because he doesn't want him to fight Vergil
>one timer mission of Nero going through the collapsing Qlipoth before D vs V, ending with him reaching the phone

You have to turn on hdr for it to have any color at all. Common theme among re engine games

It feels like where in this awkward place now where they're pushing for Nero to inherit the main character spot, except Nero still isn't as fun to play as as Dante, so what do you do?
No point trying to tell a Nero story, if fans are just going to want to play as Dante for 80% of it, and if you give Nero Dante's full moveset, then he's not really Nero anymore.

Also in 17 make Dante go through the same tunnels Nero and V do before reaching Urizen, fighting the last waves of Angelos there and in the fields

The story was mostly about reestablishing the DMC world and opening up directions for a DMC6(dante and vergil hell adventure, lady and trish solo mission, nero doing his own shit, etc.)
It's better than the average DMC story mode, hell of a lot better than the remake's story mode
But it's ultimately inconsequential cringe bait
The systems are good, and that's what matters. All the characters sans V play well and provide a lot of replayability. V is probably the sole flaw of the game, because DMC is all about movement and V is a slow ass bitch

Split the campaign. Dante/Vergil doing whatever they're doing in Hell, and some story with Nero and Co. taking care of a demon problem somewhere on Earth. This way you can play as Vergil in his own unique story rather than just retreading the main game as him.

I wouldn't have mind if it was a full Nero story, and Dante would have been just a secret character you can play as later, like Vergil is in the special editions. Or the other way around.

As it stands, I kinda felt like they brought the worst of both worlds. Having a handful of levels for all 3 characters, and trying to make it a story from the viewpoint of all three.

>Nero still isn't as fun to play as as Dante
KEK

I have no fucking idea why we cannot play every level as every character.
Are there some places where level is physically impossible to beat with other character?

>except Nero still isn't as fun to play as as Dante,
Headcanon

I know logically that the enemy designs are still varied, but something about the graphics just makes them all blend together to me and makes the game feel very samey
The environments also don't help

Speaking of environments, I hate the bloody palace arena, in addition to just being that dumb web tree material, the platform is small and it's placed awkwardly in the world in a way that gives me some kind of artificial agoraphobia, it's stupid

He's fine, but the sheer amount of stuff you can do as Dante is so much more exciting

There is a lot of shit you can do with nero but it's gated behind consumable devil breakers that you can't switch

Stop being a bitch about breaking your devil bringers, you'll get more

I don't like how dante plays. Press d pad to change one button. Least fun character.

>So what is the Yea Forumserdict after few years?
>Co-op limited to 1.5 missions despite going all the way to develop the netcode and even friend prioritization. This can be modded in on PC but it's still clunky.
>Levels are locked to the characters they originally used even on replays.
>Menus are too long for simple things.
Other than that I consider it basically perfect, and is better than we had any right to expect after over a decade.

Dantebros...

>but something about the graphics just makes them all blend together to me
How
You have bugs, lizards, alligator, armored knights, goats, skeletons

Another case of "concept art looks way cooler"
Also Dante looks more serious there. Like his DMC1-2 personality.

It's good and much better than 4, which I didn't expect from nuCapcom. But it's basically DMC4.5, and I like 3 way more so it's disappointing. But even using 4 as a base there are still some problems, the biggest one being that the enemies are too passive and don't follow you in the air or try to snipe you while airborne. The bosses are cool, but they get too easy after a while. Cavaliere is great until you realize that if you spam Revolver you're basically invincible. Same with Urizen 3 if you keep JCing the head.
As it is it's a 7/10, could be an 8 if the enemies and bosses were more aggressive.

Attached: 1630600089449.jpg (800x800, 54.41K)

All drowned out by depressing realistic grey
Even the flashiest attacks are muted as hell

DMC1 is shit compared to 3 4 and 5
You haven't played many video games have you?

Make it all about Dante and Vergil in hell and it will outsell 5 surely. Want to include Nero? another 20 missions

cons
>vergil costs money
>bad storytelling
>ugly levels
>nico

pros
>good gameplay
>funny cutscenes
>vergil added later

7/10 good stuff

Great game but replaying as V is fucking terrible.

Nico is fun

>bad storytelling
What's bad about it?

She looks like she smells like shit (canonically confirmed by Nero saying it "smells like ass" in the van).

any vergil tips? i can reliably get SSS combos during regular enemy encounters but the bosses are fucking my ass in half, and i can't get a decent combo going on them to save my life

>this music
>youtu.be/J2RjlTxDdtw
>characters sitting and chilling out in the van, reading papers, taking showers etc.
Fucking KINO. I wish more games did shit like this.

Attached: lkyk7jzhxax21.jpg (1024x768, 98.32K)

didn't ask zoomer

The biggest con was once again Vergil not getting his own fucking DLC campaign when funnily enough the main game was ALL ABOUT Vergil.

Attached: 6347347237.jpg (1920x1080, 327.63K)

Most bosses don't stand out as much as they used to
In 3 damn near every boss had some sort of gimmick and a lot of them were good, and in 4 they were all designed around Nero's bringer and buster moves really well
Here you've got like 2 bosses that are built for Nero's bringer, and Nidhogg is basically tailor made for V's indirect fighting style, but everything else is just kind of straightforward offense, niche/easter egg interactions aside

Okay boomer

Its mostly flawless but has some significant issues

>Too much time in menus, especially on failure/retrying for S rank
>Nero's breakers don't replenish on reload
>No "game mode" similar to Vergil's campaign that skips nearly every scene and interruption, the van/Nico is always ready to serve etc.
>No play any level as any character mode
>No alternate costumes, just recolours
>Shadow with V is too clunky, needs to be smoother, just a summon/despawn button might be all we need
>Definitely needed a little more pacing with the levels
>M18 could have been Dante escaping the estate memory, 19 the familiars/DMC1 fan service level, 20 is Nero fighting up to reach Dante and Vergil in time complete with a timer as the stage is collapsing, 21 and 22 are the finale

Most of these complaints are small time compared to others in the series. Whole enemies, bosses, levels etc. being bad for some of them. 5 has no issue as major as that.

>a lot of them were good
dmc 3 has the shittiest enemy and boss design I've ever seen in an action game

Attached: 1444486747655.jpg (250x250, 10.47K)

You're joking right? Vergil makes the game way too fucking easy.

The only weird Vergil bosses are Nidhogg and Dante.

>In 3 damn near every boss had some sort of gimmick and a lot of them were good
Except Arkham, Jester, Leviathan, Gigapede, Nevan, Doppel, Geryon etc. Some bosses are good, like Vergil, Cerberus, AngI & Rudra and Beowulf, but the ones that are bad stick out like a sore thumb, and that's about the majority of them. I'd argue they're worse than the DMC4 ones.

mad cuz bad
filtered by cerberus, or maybe even the tutorial vanguard

best game of 2019
perfected the genre and managed to wrap up a patchwork story spanning 4 other games
the only problem i got with it is V is not fun to play in DMD

>Make it all about Dante and Vergil in hell
make hell colourful

desert hell
antarctic hell
green jungle hell
wastelands hell
blood inspired hell

And we have a deal. Too many art directions fail because they cannot come up with different hellish themes and it all blends together.

It's pretty shit in almost every department, story is fucking nonsense ass retelling of 3, characters like Lady and Trish have been basically destroyed and relegated to being pizza sluts, main campaign forces you to play 3 different characters for only a few missions each with NO option to play through the whole thing as one, not even after your first playthrough, music is zoomer trash, level design is literally just blood tree hallway into circle arena into another copy pasted blood tree hallway, etc. The only saving grace is the gameplay which is mostly a port of dmc4 into the RE engine, fucked up the air time and momentum though, also enemies are super passive and will just stare at you for some reason.
A 6/10 overhyped to hell and back by newfag redditards who were brought by the hype train and le funneh sing and dance memes.

Attached: 1621286736990.jpg (280x330, 25.76K)

I like Jester, Nevan and Doppel.

I still remember DMC4s intro cutscene with Vergil going to explore the Order. I thought fuck yeah original campaign. Then it turns out it's just the main game again but with Vergil and I was sad.
Give me a Vergil campaign Capcom!

based and truthpilled

>Jester
Mid at most
>Gigapede
Neat, you are just little baby
>Nevan
One of the more fun fights in the series, just time your jumps and stop getting grabbed you jackass
>Doppel
A meme fight
>Geryon
oh boo hoo faggot

>characters like Lady and Trish have been basically destroyed and relegated to being pizza sluts
This isn't DMC 5's fault

>Shit taste the post

not even the guy you are replying to, but

no, you

ah some sense, finally

What's weird about Dante? He has plenty of openings and fairly straightfoward attacks

DMC6 will be two campaigns: Dante+Vergil in hell, Nero in the human world. Both campaigns happen at the same time and converge at the end. Last couple missions, as Nero for example, you will see Dante+Vergil in the distance and you get closer with each battle and level, before the big finale. The finale is two levels, Nero's boss fight/Dante+Vergil's boss fight and then the final level is the two fights melding together into a big M13 style three way.

I am simply better than you, in part because I am objectively correct, but mostly because that is simply the way it is

Nine different hells with DMC1/DaS1 level design, atmosphere and kino visuals would probably be the best game ever

I have never seen someone so far up their own ass.

Attached: Lmfao.jpg (982x726, 50.24K)

He's a lot more like a traditional boss than a usual DMC boss. Even Vergil feels more back and forth than Dante, who feels like a pure "exploit the openings" boss. Probably me being bad.

I think I must have hit some sort of burnout because I'm bored off my mind at the BP with Dante and I don't even feel like playing anymore, and I cannot get past KC everytime.
Worst part is I still got the whole entire S ranking all missions ahead of me. Haven't S ranked a full difficulty yet.
