Why doesn't the FGC take arena fighters seriously?

It's almost all astroturfed by butthurt Sakurafags, I'm not even joking.

Pretty much all of them are shitty cash-ins that's why. Point me towards 1 good arena fighter without pulling the fan service card.

They're generally not very mechanically interesting and also don't play anything like fighting games really. They're more just action games that are pvp, if that makes sense.

when I say "action game" I mean something more like nier: automata or even souls games. press light and heavy attack, combos come out. have special moves on a different button. minor item and resource usage, potentially. I'm not sure what else to call those games, "Action RPG" is diablo

whatever distinction you're trying to make between arena fighters and SF clones doesn't need to be this convoluted and misguided

They just lack in alot of competitive areas. The way the camera works means spacing is inherently less precise. You can never always see directly where everything is going/where it could be going. They often have mechanics to close the distance super fast and therefore also have extremely annoying screen blinding fireballs. They are littered with alot of comeback mechanics and poor balance. And i'm not talking that poor competitive balance where Dan can win at low and mid levels but will run into bad MUs in tournaments. I'm talking about just pick Madara and shit on alot of the cast sort of things. I know people can still manage plus frames/punish windows but otherwise it just doesn't seem that deep from my experience.

Not just SF clones, 3D fighters are pretty different too even though they should reasonably be the closest otherwise. Something about the importance of hitbox interaction as well as spacing in general. Movement being relative to the plane of combat rather than being free is another huge distinction.

Most of them are shovelware, especially ones based on shounen anime like Naruto, and a very large number of them are very, very, very, VERY poorly balanced and unsuited for serious play.
Even in the PS2 days you could play a game like YYH Dark Tournament or Narutimate and any mentally deficient child (literally me) could find at least three infinites

Recently bought all the UNS games because I remembered 2 and 3 fondly and never played 4. I was so hyped for 4 too.

Fuck, it was disappointing. 2 was great but needed more cutscene battles. 3 was great but the translation was really shitty. 4 is just... fucking "select a mission, watch 10 minutes of still-frames from the anime and then do a battle".

How and why did they fuck up the last entry so god damn bad? I know you can't really open world when the whole story takes place on the same battlefield but fuck. At least do some good cutscenes. So fucking disappointed it's unreal.

Shishirendan literally did take UNS1 seriously. The game was hot garbage competitively and they had to ban so much shit nothing was left to do. They went back to Accel 2 for another few years. Each Storm title was more and more busted
