Continue onward to today and the roguelike fans find themselves unable to their their own genre's name anymore or search for their own game on google without fans of the fake roguelike genre (which can and does encompass any genre at all) entering the thread and insisting they be included, overtaking the discussion.

They're hard because they punished mistakes and brute forcing shit, and it stood out early on because games didn't do that.
