Tony hawk's pro skater

Holy shit, I was playing this game out of curiosity and having mild interest and it's actually fucking AWESOME.

I can easily see how this is a 98 on Metacritic.

Enjoy it, OP. Good shit. Make sure to play the others

They're good games, series got pretty samey after THUG2 because Activision loves milking their franchises beyond reason but it's one of the more soulful western franchises

Pinnacle of a soulful era, when even the licensed tie in cash grabs had great gameplay and oozed personality.
Enjoy OP

LIGHTS OUT, GUERILLA RADIO

thug 1 is still the best

this
I fucked up by playing it first
all the others seemed lackluster in comparison

i disagree

>when even the licensed tie in cash grabs had great gameplay and oozed personality.
It probably helped that Neversoft's engine was already in progress before they got the Tony Hawk license.

Honestly Proving Grounds is my favourite games in the franchise.
Did anybody play it?

Nah. Worse era, worse music, you can really tell the skateboarding scene was drying up and garbage like Bam Margera was being pushed by mtv

NO MORE
WAITING
ON THEM

My bro got thps 1 and he was 21 at the time. I played it for that weekend I was at his house and I was fucking truly addicted. Like the worst feeling in my chest because I couldn't play anymore. He wanted to let me borrow it but his roommates shut it down.

Next time I felt that feeling was vanilla wow.

GG, now I have everything at my disposal and I only play street fighter 3rd strike and don't feel a thing

It has a very unique gameplay that nothing has been able to copy or even come close since, but it was also a product of its time and impossible to recreate in modern times without repeating the same formula.
The remakes are fantastic, but they're also the exact same game.
Skating in the mainstream is dead, pop-punk and punk rock are not mainstream anymore and basically this game has zero mainstream appeal besides nostalgia.
It truly was a unique gem and a once in a lifetime kind of game.

They don't have rude words hidden in textures, Daisy and her Ho-Ho Sadplant, or 15 minutes of Neversoft employees breaking their asses, legs, and teeth.

American Wasteland is underrated. Was much better than the overrated THUG2 in my opinion.

THPS4 and THUG1 were sort of like the beginning of the end. I want to say fatigue started with THPS4 but THUG1 was a nice revitalization of the formula but THUG2 was straight down the toilet.

THUG 2 on the PSP is actually good. It's just the old 2 minute runs formula without all the cringy MTV shit THUG 1 and 2 suffered from.
It's super good and worth checking it. Probably the last good game in the series before it went to total shit during the 360 era

>Saved up enough money for another Tony Hawks game.
>The store only had Pro Skater 3, whatever
>Get home, stoked to play it, start game

Ngl I was crushed

SO HERE I AM
DOING EVERYTHING I CAN

2 is the most fun. 3 has the best music and still pretty fun.

it has a bunch of exclusive levels too, some reappeared in THAW but without goals

Um where are the women

What? THUG 2 PSP is almost a direct port of the main version. It still has the freeroam story and goals and everything.
youtube.com/watch?v=SB8MXHDcQKg
It just also has a classic 2-minute-run mode because regular THUG 2 has that, too.

Anyone of you guys ever play THUGPRO?

I replayed the entire series before the 1+2 remake came out and THUG1 does not hold up at all. THUG2 gets a ton of shit but basically all the issues with that game all start in THUG1. THUG2 also has better gameplay.

THUG1 is overdue for a mass reevaluation. I will die on this hill.

youtube.com/watch?v=0Gb55D_mF4s

used to but I never learned the meta so I'm pretty shit at it lol

thug pro party van when?

/vm/ played it a few months back. only like four people showed up over the night

>tfw this entire album is 10/10 from start to finish

AAAAAAAAAAAA IMPETUS

thats just sad

That's a take hotter than Private Carrera doing splits in the Foundry, and I can't agree with it. The only big demerit I can give it is no classic mode and the first few levels are annoying with the handholding. The levels are mostly excellently designed and you can flow through them WITHOUT having to get off your board all the time because it was a new feature that added to your move set instead of constantly replacing it like in THUG 2. The goals are fun and have variety beyond high score and Collect the Doodads (albeit not as much variety as THPS4, which probably takes the lead here), and everyone remembers Eric Fucking Sparrow.

Still the best thing to come out of the Margera bloodline

play them in order
you can stop at American Wasteland
basically it just keeps getting better and better, and then you get to experience getting off the board for the first time

Does THUG Pro still have issues with Xbox One controller triggers? I used to use a PS4 controller on my PC but I sold the console so when I bought an xbone controller I was deeply saddened when I could no longer do vert transfers.

Attached: s24230_xb_31[1].jpg (400x280, 8.29K)

Yeah, it's not great. Only went on for a few hours before the few remaining anons got tired/too depressed. One user did mention having played Disney Skate Adventure as a kid and we were able to blow his mind a bit since THUG Pro includes those levels and swapped to it without telling him that, so that was neat.

Attached: thugpro.exe Screenshot 2021.05.30 - 00.48.49.03.png (1920x1080, 1.4M)

Not him. I agree THUG is one of the best but IMO for the “open level” games, the best one is the first one THPS 4. The only real negative is doing goals can be pretty slow due to the stupid goal complete clap do you want to save shit

Underground 2 is really on of those games that could not be made today, its so 2000s that it hurts
From the skate culture itself, to the music, to how influential Jackass still was at the time
Take me back

4 has a couple stinker levels (looking at you, Shipyard) but I'll always like all the different goals it has and how so many of the Pro Goals make you use your brain instead of just your fingers.

THPS2, THUG, and skate 1 and 2 are some of the best games of all time.

No idea but that sounds like it might be a bug on your side, I doubt the devs would let an Xinput related bug go unhindered so long.

XInput on the Xbox One controller uses a weird setup for both sets of triggers, so if the game doesn't support it completely it will only recognize them as one set. It's more of a hardware issue than a game one.

Every time i see Tony Hawk i think of this image

Attached: skaterboarder.jpg (387x704, 57.41K)

Oh, that bug? Yeah, it's shitty- it's been like that since the 360 days, Microshaft made it so Xbox pads using Xinput in semi supported games map both triggers to one axis, so depressing both gives you 0 instead of L+100 and R+100. Makes playing some racing games fucking impossible. I think there's a program, Xinput Plus or something, that lets you remap a controller to show up as other axes, similar to the various DInput/Xinput wrappers around, but I haven't used it. You could always remap the controls to put revert/spine on the bumpers.

just how HIGH do you even have to BE.....

Did any of you play the PS1 versions of THPS3 and 4? They were basically just reskins of THPS2, but the devs did a surprisingly solid job of translating the (at the time) next gen levels to the older engine/console.

I remember reading a review for THPS4 on the PS1 (which came out very late in the PS1's life, after the PS2 had been out for quite a while) and it basically boiled down to "If you're still stuck on the original Playstation what the hell else are you gonna buy?"

Attached: 197293-tony-hawk-s-pro-skater-4-playstation-screenshot-grinding-to[1].jpg (640x480, 75.1K)

I remember enjoying it back when it first dropped in 2007 but I haven't played it since then.
That create-a-flip gimmick was pretty rad.

Is the franchise dead again? 1+2 was great, I don't want to lose it again.

>THPS4 on the PS1

Attached: 1445819399790.jpg (422x422, 47.81K)

1+2 is stuck on the Epic Game Store, so it might as well be dead.

I have THPS3 on the PS1 but remember basically nothing about it other than replaying Foundry over and over because Canada was different, difficult, and laid out really weird from what I remember (compared to Foundry which was a good port from the PS2). Also foggy as hell because PS1 so good luck seeing anything.

i prob dumped around 6000hours on that game 20 years ago

Yeah. Vicarious Visions was sucked into Blizzard and now Microsoft has the reigns.

>1+2 is stuck on the Epic Game Store, so it might as well be dead.

its on sw1tcH

1+2 was the only product that exceeded their expectations that year. Why the fuck would they not put them straight on another one. let alone kill the dev team behind it?

I played THPS4 on PS1 out of curiosity, they censored some songs which was kinda weird
also the story and characters are all but gone you're just doing objectives on cut down maps, it's a serviceable version of the game but not really worth your time

>OH MAH GAHD I JUST PLAYED THIS GAME 69 YEARS AFTER ITS RELEASE
a 10 year old made this thread

Out skateboarding.
Or did you not know that because you were too much of a chauvinist pig to play as the female skater?

3 had the standard 2 minute runs, but the way they did it in 4 was basically freeskate, but instead of riding up to NPCs and getting missions you would ride up to a floating coin sprite in the world and start the mission that way.

There are no NPCs, cars, or moving objects at all really, so its sort of like skating in a creepy post apocalyptic world. The world has ended, everyone else is dead, you are alone, and you must Skate.

Yeah I had 3 on ps1, it blew my mind.
The extra levels with no objectives were cool.

I only played THPS3 on PSX back in the day. I didn't play the PS2 version until like a couple years ago.

I Have No Legs But I Must Skate

can you get vibration with a ps4 controller

playing that game without controller vibration makes my dick impotent

3 on the PS1 had a level where you were tiny and could skate around a kitchen counter. Being tiny and running around a normal, modern day environment from an alternate perspective are my jam.

Line Enough At Last

I wonder if we'll get some Japanese skateboarding vidya thanks to those little girls tearing it up at the Olympics. Apparently it did a whole lot for the popularity of skating there.

They don't have the license for Tony Hawks name anymore anyway so even if they made a new game it would be called something else

> Breaks your board in half

It's... not... fair! There was time now!

>Skate 4 in development
>THPS 3+4 most likely in development, with more budget

Has it happened? Is skateboarding back?

>nooo you can't just button mash and do 20 different grinds on one rail

Hawk loves THPS. He'll give out the license.

cashing in on millennial nostalgia is back

He said the last one sucked

Imagine how baller 3+4 would have been.
But VV was snuffed out because that's just what you do when your company just dropped the best selling game of a franchise, right?

Attached: 1557331475915.jpg (640x480, 97.61K)

I played 3 and 4 on PS1 because we were fucking poor. I didn't realize until last year how different the games were between systems. They shouldn't even count as ports. The PS1 versions are completely different.

Wait until you play the GBA[/spoiler ones.

Unironically, it should not extend your combo multiplayer, just count as more points in your score. Spamming that shit is too easy.

At some point, doing a manual and just spamming face buttons while maintaining balance could easily net you 200-500k points in no time at all.

Twisting the board around on a level surface is not grinding. If the trucks or deck aren't in contact with the surface it's not a grind. What else would the word "Grind" imply.

>no manual+flip in and flip+manual out
What a scrub, he's never gonna get the tapes.

Based, I used to listen to so much Millencolin when I was playing vanilla wow

At what point there are the trucks not in contact? The left wheel's hanging down.

Sadly they did too good of a job. Activision accidentally found out they have an extremely competent developer and Blizzard was currently on fire with recent dumpster fire of Warcraft 3 Reforged. It makes sense to put your most talented guys on your biggest properties I suppose.

THPS5 was a wet diarrhea pile of a game pressed to disc.

The best part is that the actual disc has almost none of the game on it, it relied on a massive mandatory day 1 patch to actually get the rest of the game. The patch is no longer available so if you bought the game now you could basically only free skate in a training area, you can never play the actual game.

I think if you could get a developer that was passionate about the skateboarding genre and were interested in making a good THPS game you'd have a decent shot at getting him onboard.

If there were rights issues behind the "Pro Skater" name, worse case scenario is you get Tony Hawk onboard and release it as "Tony Hawk's Skateboarding" or something.

Such a good job they had to censor bails.

iirc that's the same guy who at a semi-recent competition (not the olympics) used his whole one minute run to hold a single manual/spacewalk all the way around the perimeter of the park
fucker's doing all the classic THPS cheese tricks in real life unironically

5 and 1HD did. He still gave them another chance. And I'm pretty sure he was happy with 1+2, even if he factored quality concerns into whether he'd let them pay him money to use his name and likeness.

slides are considered a type of grind in the game

hmmmmmmm

ARMAGEDDON LET THE LIGHT IN BEFORE WE SAY GOODBYE GIVE US SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN

1+2 could've been a shitty cashgrab but VV put in more work than I expected of them, too bad it's stuck on EGS

>Did any of you play the PS1 versions of THPS3 and 4
Not only did I play the PS1 versions of THPS3 and THPS4, but I only just learnt that there was any OTHER version

My friend, you need to go play them right now. They'll blow your fucking mind.

Unlikely, I didn't like THUG or THUG2 much when I played them. Retvrn to trvdition
