In my mind, the game that has one of the best plot twists of all time is the original Last of Us game.
Towards the end of the game, the girl you were transporting (Ellie) is taken to the enclave of a group known as the fireflies. This group of people are a sort of “resistance,” faction in the post-apocalyptic world. They are presented throughout the game as the “good” ones.
However, once Ellie arrived at their enclave (she is immune to the virus) she is immediately taken, and the fireflies decide to kill her in order to extract a potential cure for the virus from her.
In a dramatic twist, Joel (the protagonist) decides that he does not want this to go on.
This is a twist because it goes his stoic and uncaring characterization. This was caused by the death of his biological daughter earlier in the game. For the first time, it is shown that he cares for someone on a deeper level.
In his anger he decides to kill the fireflies and rescue Ellie from being killed, and this is how the game ends setting up for a sequel. That’s why I think the last of us has one of the best plot twists in all of gaming
