Bad hitboxes. The damage obviously is supposed to come from the tip of the sword, which is nowhere near the player. This could be improved by giving Malenia's body another hitbox that does way less damage, but knocks the player regardless like a tackle.

the player thought that they could simply get behind malenia as she does a move that would seemingly stay headed in the direction her sword is pointing. This would be considered a logical strategy if it weren't for the fact that this is in the endgame of a 200 hour game and is like the 7th game in a series of games that are all pretty similar. Now you gotta pump it to like 50+ just to keep up with endgame bosses, because otherwise they'll just 1-2 hit you, and heavy vig investment will give you that coveted third hit.

at this point in the game, you should know 99% of attacks in ER cant be dodge by strafing. this retard was going for a jump attack but stopped after seeing the boss going for an attack, but in his finite wisdom, he decided to land and move sideways instead of rolling. the problem here is a skill issue.
