When you didn't actually finish the game
Using save states on an emulator
when you grew up with 8 and 16 bit consoles
This
I haven't finished Far Cry 1 yet, it was too hard for me (I suck at shooters)
If you're not the 100% Speedrun world record holder then you wasted your time and it doesn't count
Like probably 90-95% of the games I've ever bought or played. I don't play games to complete them, I play them to get some sort of pleasurable experience from then until I'm done.
true 100% includes maxing the in-game timer. speedruns are not actually playing the game. you skip scenes, skip as much of the game as possible, just memorize button inputs, spend a lot of time out of bounds depending on the game, etc
imagine speedrunning dinner. you just throw the whole plate in the trash and say youre done
this is a faggot meme from Mike matei about using save state and rewind in old scool games, you are a newfag bitch for repeating that loser I don't expect less from the newfaggots on here nowadays
cope speedlet
Getting the 'bad' ending in Persona 4 which abruptly cuts off the last 10-15% of the game.
When you use walkthrough or using abusable that you don't find by yourself.
When you take Grigori's offer
>not the hundreds upon hundreds of Elden Ring "you didn't beat the game" threads
Elden Ring
>using save state and rewind i
you didn't beat the game
user are you sensitive about people saying you didnt beat the game because you save stated?
This the first thread I see of the day and I barely browse this board anymore
>Still playing boring ring
Platinum'd after 90hours back to playing superior Bloodborne
Durrrr reading comprehension duuhhh
prove me wrong
Playing early access game
>boring ring
i dont like it either but you dont really have the right to call that game boring when you play bloodbourne which is virtually the same game
>i dont eat shit, id rather consume superior diarrhea
ok lol
>protoss campaign is literally unbeatable
when are they going to fix this bullshit
when you start the game
any time you use save states
>nooo don't unfuck the shit design, just accept that you'll have to restart the game several times to finish it
Fuck that
using fast travel
who cares
Ending of vanilla Asuras Wrath
savescumming has ALWAYS been looked down upon with disdain here, and as it should newfag. you're literally using external resources not provided by the devs. it's cheating and you're retarded.
Ending A in Nier Automata
There are actually max% speedruns
Choosing easy mode when given the choice, you didn't beat the intended mode
enjoy the game as you will; whether that's playing as intended, using built in cheats, external cheats, or watching someone else beat it. we both know only the first qualifies as actually beating the game.
/thread
not getting all achievements
completing grunty's furnace fun
Do you feel the same way about quicksaves? I don't look down on people using it, but it does usually make games trivial. But sometimes there's no other choice really.
using cheat codes (whether built in or external); using external tools like save states or rewind that the original developers didn't even put in the game; looking up what to do or where to go in adventure games; looking up how to beat or get past a particular troublesome part or boss; using glitches or exploits... i'm sure there's more
>Cases where this is actually true
THE GAME
Ctrl+S next time
you just didn't beat it
ghost trick, emulator crashed in the same spot all the time
user WTF FIX MY DADS COMPUTER!!!!!!
Beating Dark Souls on anything besides the original ps3 and 360 versions. People who beat it on PC where you had steady framerates and even 60fps played a 10x easier version.
picrel
also, using Orlandu in any battle.
/thread
especially true for sekiro. the framerate makes that game 10x easier
B-But the cheevo!1!
You don't need to beat it!
>Do you feel the same way about quicksaves?
Yeah absolutely. What exactly is the different between those and savestates?
> but it does usually make games trivial
obviously, it's cheating
>But sometimes there's no other choice really
You could just not finish the game...
This actually touches on something I believe tobe one of the biggest cancers plaguing modern gaming. The idea that everyone should be able to beat every game. What a retarded notion; yet tahts precisely the philosophy modern devs operate under when designing games. Progression is built in; be it adaptive difficulty, retard arrows showing you where to go, incessant mission objectives telling you what to do, abandonment of lives or continues or game overs, autosaves every second, and just the general dumbing down and streamlining of everything. Anyone can beat any modern "game." DESU I don't even consider them games at all anymore. the word game implies the participant has the capacity to lose. may as well watch a fucking movie. I also hate how everything is so homogenized and standardized these days. Everything must have the same industry standard controls and camera perspectives, same derivative gameplay from one of like five games released in the past decade and a half.
Is it actually unbeatable? Whats wrong with it?
Cheat Codes in KH3
Classic Difficulty in FF7R
they make you play as protoss
and if you play as protoss, you did not beat the game
Using the crissaegrim , marsil or alucard shield in any capacity
Sometimes I do be like that. I try literally every game I can :/
Still looking for the one
>Open world game
>do main quest to around 80%
>dropped
every time
>What exactly is the different between those and savestates?
One is a feature the developer implemented and isn't technically cheating because of that. Like in Bethesda games, or PC ports of the original Splinter Cell games.
>But sometimes there's no other choice really
Oh, and to bring the point home from my tangent here there are still games from my childhood that I haven't beaten. Battletoads comes to mind. And I may never actually beat it. Gen Z will never know what it's like to own a game and not be able to beat it due to a lack of skill on their part. If you've ever watched one stream games and they get stuck, they throw the hugest tantrums and seethe about how the game is bullshit. Fuck that. If you can't beat it then you can't beat it. Literally git gud or quit, or cheat but then don't go around saying you've beaten the game you fucking children.
Neutral ending Undertale
Hell-less Cave Story
Hell-less Charlie Murder
Everhood Pacifist ending (you looked up a guide to find this)
this
> What exactly is the different between those and savestates?
Well you mentioned this:
>you're literally using external resources not provided by the devs
But sometimes the devs just give you the ability to do that, like the Fallout games
using cheat codes
using cheat engine
using trainers
when you let a friend beat hard boss for you
summoning real players for help in souls games and elden ring
>Bethesda games
Oh, if you read my rant at the end of the post above, you'll see that I hardly consider things like that as games. But sure if the devs put it in then it's fair game (obviously things like cheat codes are included by devs but are still, well, cheats)
>play game
>beat game
>some guy on the internet tells me I haven't actually beat it
hmmmm
Knights of the Old Republic. I didn’t realize you could select the computer terminals while in combat and used every single consumable I had meticulously stockpiled throughout the entire game fighting the endless waves of war droids right outside of Malak’s room. Didn’t bother coming back after that.
>Still haven't finish La Mulana
>At hell temple and Mother fight only left
>mfw
Can you really call them games then? I would argue they're more akin to those choose your ending novels, but digitally interactive
Don’t you find it weird though to think about this:
If you set a save state before the hardest parts of battletoads, you could fairly quickly master those parts, and then you could start the game from the beginning and beat it again without savestates
Like you would learn the skills required to beat it a thousand times faster than if you had to keep starting over, but the end result would be the same, you would now have the skills to beat it without cheating
>trying to use logic on a Yea Forums neckbeard
The fags on this board will find ANY excuse to feel superior to people
Can't beat the game if it was never finished in the first place
When you ran out of quarters.
>D&D
I thank mame.
I don't care I still beat the game with cheats
If you didn't wipe out every other faction, exile all lords, and own every castle and city in Warband, you didn't beat the game.
I actually still consider that cheating but I won't try to shame someone or anything like that if they disagree / do it, like if they savescum in general. I just hold myself to higher standards. I have done it before, and felt dirty afterwards and haven't done it since
>reach end of game
>boss starts monologuing at me
>savestate after the text dump so I don't have to read it all through again if I die
>beat boss
>some guy on Yea Forums tells me that invalidates my playthrough
do I have to start over bros?
If you ever used any items or spells in any JRPG you didn't beat it.
lmao what kind of weird cope is this?
Yes
Came here to say this
Yes, otherwise you will never be a hardcore gamer such as myself.
I cant believe you didnt beat it bro...
