2: The settlers(?) can't do anything on their own without you explicitly telling them to. They have no autonomy. I found that boring, because they were too NPC-like. They should just do regular people shit on their own when I'm not wanting to micro-manage them.
What is a Z Level?
It's just going up or down. The mentioned games are essentially on a 2D plane with no way to go up or down. So you can't add things like a second floor.
I've never seen that in any 2d game except a platformer unless I'm misunderstanding. Or maybe an RPG where you go up some "steps" and it loads you into a different map entirely.
Unless it means like pic related where it seems like you are going "up" because they put cliff colliders all around with only steps to get around them.
Building towers and digging holes. It's a serious issue with Rimworld as the lack of proper mega projects hurts long term settlement enjoyment. That along with other missing simulation elements means shit gets boring once you've done the research tree the game is over outside of more boring raids.

Rimworld's success has been entirely thanks to moddabilty. That and a not totally bullshit UI.
You do it once and never again, because mechanically it mostly boils down to endless raids and there's no replayability to it.
You can either do that or tech up enough to build your own.
