For GBA I just go with muting the colors a little.

How do you even know which filter is the best one? I look them up and there is like 50 of the things on Retroarch.

Attached: wonder.jpg (1727x2440, 1020.79K)

There is a couple I choose between, because some look better with certain games/systems. Some will look too dark, will cause artifacting, don't work on higher res games, etc.

You can also just use grid filter which looks good on almost everything but requires 1:1 PAR and there are some games that are clearly not meant to be 1:1 PAR (like Capcom Arcade games)

The ones I use are

crt drvenom - just very basic scanline shader that works with most games and isn't too harsh
crt-caligari - good compatibility with games where most shaders have issues
crt-torridgristle - good no flicker shader
crt-easymode - general shader for 3D games
crt-lottes-multipass - this one has a slight fisheye effect like an old CRT
crt-royale-intel - especially good for 4k
crt-royale-xm29plus - more gentle crt royale
crt-royale - default crtroyale especially good for 4k
mame_hlsl - works good for some higher res arcade games that have issues with other shaders
advanced-aa - one of my two AA shaders, I just choose whichever looks better for the game
aa-shader-4.0 - one of my two AA shaders, I just choose whichever looks better for the game
retro-v2+image-adjustment - simple grid shader, you can also just use grid3x filter
xsoft+scalefx-level2aa - this is a controversial look but is good for a change. Gives a very soft, water-color style look

Shaders are better. These old games were not made to be displayed on large modern displays raw. That said your filter is too agressive, I prefer something softer and more pleasing to the eye.

If you want to be authentic, then turn that god awful filter off and play at native res. Because this is not what I remember the game looking like, I remember it looking like pic related.

Attached: pokemon.png (548x365, 276.26K)

It's the same filter. The image is just smaller. Besides, that actually pretty similar to what the GBA screen looked like.

As long as you aren't doing pic related shit, you are probably fine by me

The filter is still there you stupid fuck and you fucked with the scaling so now it looks even worse.

And no, I'm not going to make the game take up 2% of my monitor and act like that looks better you stupid fuck

Then don't bother using filters you tard. It's not what the game looked like.

That is literally what GB and GBA games looked like you stupid fuck. It wasn't CRT, it was an LCD screen that has a grid-like pattern, similar to as seen in the OP.

However, it's going to look off unless viewed with square pixels and integer scaling, so downscaling the image like you did looks like shit because the grid is uneven.

No it wasn't. You could not see the pixels that clearly. Your image looks like a mosaic.

Don't worry user, I think your screenshot looks better. It's like looking at a somewhat large AGB-101 screen, with the only weak point being that the filter banding not being able to capture the curves of a tilted screen.

Holy shit you are actually fucking retarded.

THE GBA RESOLUTION IS 240 X 160 YOU BRAINDEAD FUCKING TARD

Yes and running the game upscaled like that with such a filter looks terrible and not like the original at all. If you want an authentic experience, at least reduce the size somewhat and turn the horrible filter off or replace it with one that gives you a way smaller grid.

>DUDE IF YOU WANT THE ORIGINAL EXPERIENCE HAVE IT BE 2% OF YOUR MONITOR WITH 98% OF YOUR MONITOR BEING A MASSIVE BLACK BORDER!!!
neck yourself you fucking autistic retard

Attached: gbc.png (325x669, 592.86K)

I can't either 2bh. Raw pixels are hideous.

If you don't want to emulate the original experience then why even use filters at all? Your OP image looks horrible.

Good job BTFO'ing yourself.

It's quite literally the exact same size grid you fucking braindead shit eating retard

>little redditor faggot sperging out the moment he's exposed as a brainlet
you love to see it

Integer scaling is not upscaled you retard zoomer

>DUDE THAT'S NOT WHAT LE GAME LOOKS LIKE
>literally posts an up-close screenshot of a GBC showing the grid is nearly 1:1 size
So you're just bitching about an image integer scaled up so I'm not playing something the size of my pinky finger on my monitor. you're so fucking retarded holy shit lmao

Raw pixels for games intentionally made as pixel art.
Filters for games intended to take advantage of CRT blur.
Though in reality it doesn't actually matter, and it's whatever you prefer.

Yep, time to game.

shader name?

Dude literally just NTSC filter or horizontal blur + any shader looks like that

My eyesight is shitty enough as it is, I don't need to make these games look like blurry shit. I don't play 2D games in fullscreen anyway.

>everything is green
what kind of shitty ass CRT did the creator of this filter reference?

Online Updater > Slang shaders, then load the game > Shaders > Find the slang folder and pick something

Almost no 2D games released after the SNES and Genesis were made with dithering in mind.

PS1 had dithering out the ass even in 3D games

But user he's been consistently right and you've been consistently wrong, why should I believe that you're smarter than him when you have to rely on acting like a chimp to seem like you're not the braindead one?
