High Elves have been “extinct” since before BFA or Legion took us back - their ancestors are the Nightbourne, who adapted by consuming copious amounts of mana to become stronger and outlast Ashara’s rule in isolation. Nightbourne are literally High Elves, but blue because of mana addiction. If you want anything that came before High Elves, play Zandalari Trolls, being their direct ancestor also.

As for the new race - they were in the lore since the games inception, the Dragon Isles go back as far as vanilla, and pretty sure before that also. They aren’t elves - they’re more like DND Kobolds; not exactly dragons, but children of dragons that can take in some of their traits, such as transforming and using the abilities of dragons.

Also, who gives a single shit about some human copy paste Viking fag race when we got human sailors 2.0 with BFA, when we can literally play dragons higher tier than the things they capture.
