The greatest piece of gaming hardware to ever exist.
It truly was revolutionary. Thanks chinks.
The greatest piece of gaming hardware to ever exist
Spawned an absolute insane amount of clone.
Probably the most cloned piracy device.
I kinda wish there was a detailed description of how these things work.
Sure there are tons of them on the market today, but one day we might find ourselves having to make our own, since nobody has any stock left.
Ability to use SD card > R4
It also a sank lots of DS games because of all the rampant piracy. Still had a lot of fun with my R4 card.
it wasn't the original DS piracy device either, just the most popular. I can't remember the exact name but the first one was by M3 and you had to insert both the DS cart and a GBA cart
where can i get these or equivalent now?
How would the landscape be any different if people hadn't just pirated DS games
Recommend me some games.
Why not just hack your 3ds and install games on the sd card?
I had this little guy.
Actually I still use this. Everyone talks about softmodding their DSi nowadays but nothing beats the sovl of playing off the cartridge.
muh compatibility is what people will say but I have yet to play a game on Twilight Menu that didn't work perfectly
Forgot image
I remember for some reason I had to use acekard instead of R4 but regardless it was fucking glorious. I played so many games on it it was the only reason 3ds was a great handheld for me.
I had M3 Simply
It was this one since it could run emulators.
I’m able to run everything I’ve tried, including obscure shit like the two incredibly shitty code lyoko games
Passcard 3. M3 Lites used them.
Also reminder if you use the chink clones to power up your DS every 2-3 years or they because the chips they use love to nuke themselves on a firmware level once the capacitor they have flatlines.
And im talking about hardware firmware not the SD firmware.
Do you even still need a DS if you own a 3DS?
My M3 Lite nuked itself, but not that way. It was the SD card.
>Probably the most cloned piracy device
That was the original PS2 modchip, once it came out chinks cloned the shit out it till people decided Modbo was going to be the standard, specially because they were able to met the insane demand.
I still have my old DS but considering my base model 3dsxl plays DS games perfectly fine through cartridge and digital, I don't see much reason. All 3ds can directly install GBA games onto it as well, so really all you have leftover is Pictochat.
>Put a bazillion games on a small card
How could Nintendo compete?
The greatest piece of gaming hardware to ever exist. It's truly revolutionary. Thanks GPD.
One example would be the Super-7 E17 when it comes to shitty chinkchips.
And the ones that wanted you to do disc swapping because they were too cheap to add 2 extra pads and to sell you a extra disc.
With an online paid subscription service.
These things are fragile as hell. I had to get like 3 of them
Welcome to chinkshit clones.
The Ukranian ones and SuperDSTwo's were made to last though.
Now this was the shit
are the recent dual core r4s any good?
Enough documentation is out there that you could make one from scratch if you needed to. Maybe not an R4 exactly but a flashcart.
Aliexpress, nds-card, ebay
Because you have to individually install each game on the 3DS.
Good thing they cost literally like 4 dollars or less.
I was able to buy one as a kid from doing surveys on sites like rewards1 and gaminglagoon. It was one of the things you could order with enough points.
Funny story about being fragile, up until a couple months ago, I was still using one in my 3DS. Then one day the sd card stopped working in it. Kinda sucks but since you can play using twilight menu now it finally is not longer needed.
But I mean, it lasted long, I didn't use it for maybe most of this time, but it lasted well over a decade since I used it back in my DS.
Finally shelled out the $40 one day and bought a DSTWO because I really wanted to play GBA games on my DS, and it fucking broke in like a few days. I sent it back to the cheap online company i got it from, but of course I never got any kind of replacement or anything.
Barring the time it takes to swap in the sd card, that takes like maybe three minutes tops to convert to .cia and install then on the 3ds
These guys are based. Open sourced their menu which is now the foundation of all modern DS card firmwares, and supported their card until it's physically impossible to continue.
SHould have bought a EZFlash instead.
The card also gives you cheats and shit.
it's a shame that ysmenu isn't open source
I don't like how DS games look on the 3DS screen, even in pixel perfect mode.
How exactly?
How exactly do flashcards work?
You can do quite a bit of save editing and event injecting for the pokemon games using some 3ds program with a blue pokeball icon(i cant remember the name). Other than that, I don’t see the need for cheats for DS games.
This too.
I can smell the discount mall these were sold in
My DSTWO just kinda stopped being recognized one day too, though I think it was just a contact or SD card issue.
But I had the dstwoupdateb file on the card at the time and trying to reinsert the card to get recognized bricked the DSTWO.
If you're gonna bring up Pokemon, you can actually trade/battle with other DS games.
Seriously? The DS is like the last system with an extensive cheat database. I used cheats very often and miss them on newer systems.
Pretty sure you can still do that using the 3ds forwarder.
>keeps on bringing up homebrew after homebrew
It's just more convenient, user.
I can't believe chinks contributed so many hours of fun to my late teenage years. Thanks Mr. Wong
>Why not just hack your 3ds
Because the 3DS didn't exist back then. Of course I'm using TWiLight Menu++ now.
Nocash already documented the DS cartridge protocol including the encryption it uses. For DSi support you'd need to also add a game exploit, but you can rip an example from any existing flashcart without much difficulty.
Its the same homebrew. The forwarder is the thing that gets installed from the .cia package and runs the game. I’m saying that it can already communicate with DS games.
That's like half the work. Less even.
What about how flashcards load and patch games.
So a 3DS running an emulated game can interact with a DS running an authentic game? Color me impressed.
As a retarded kid I bought a DSi thinking I could load games off the SD card.
It eventually became possible, it just took almost 10 years.
nds-bootstrap isn't emulation. Although if we are on the topic, I know the patches it uses caused trouble with Download Play. I don't know if it has been fixed.
Were you born this stupid or did you have to work at it?
Not emulated, more like heavily patched I think
>hurr durr if you haven't researched this niche handheld Nintendo homebrew you're a retard
Dilate, faggot.
>walking into an argument when you don’t even know what you’re talking about
Classic.
You still never responded to that other user who said cheats are actually very valuable on DS.
That's not hard either. You don't need any patches to get early games running, and later games with AP all have public patch databases. Loading a game is a matter of telling the CPLD to fetch data from a location on the SD card when the game asks, and then letting the game launch like normal.
Based. I have pic related and never once had an issue with it. Also piss easy to use, literally plug in the micro sd card and copy-paste games onto it.
These are clones of the original Everdrive GB which is why they work so well. I bought one that had most of the library already preloaded on the SD card.
more like arbore
