Was there anything fundamentally wrong with his political ideology?

Yes

yes, but I agree with him destroying his own shit before someone else could take it.

From an ethical perspective, no.
But you could discuss at what point he fucked up the implementation of his plans. Two biggest weak points were: having way too many blue collar workers and ignoring Fontaine until it was too late. Third fuckup was bringing in Sofia Lamb.

it let mad scientists start splicing up people with magic seaslugs and turn them into monsters that all went crazy

well for one he forgot the most important part of a vetting process which is to make sure the guy you are inviting is somewhat mentally stable

It was Flanderized into a religion with the "great chain" by incompetent writers, also he just became big brother whenever it suited him and to do the bullshit with the little sisters.

Allowing the whole ADAM operation was his downfall, it was a free market with zero regulation

Unregulated free market capitalism sounds nice, until big pharma starts sticking brain slugs on crazy homeless people that gives them pokemon moves.

Correct.
Ryan failed to create an underwater Galt's Gulch simply for the reason that the surface world is not a dystopia that forces its brightest minds to flee from tyranny or corruption. The few geniuses that Ryan managed to snatch up all turned out to be antisocial freaks that couldn't function in a normal world.

The "chain" or whatever analogy he used, did not account for bad actors like Fontaine that would use free enterprise to consolidate power and take over.

Isnt that a failure though? If your ideology cannot exist with the poor, it will never work. Like most libright ideologies.

Rapture didn't have people who were all that poor until they started blowing their cash on plasmids and eventually went insane after everything broke down

Who was cleaning the toilets?

>make a city that's made for the rich and powerful
>contract a bunch of blue collar workers to build your magic city
>tell them they can build their own businesses if they want to thrive there knowing full well none of them have the resources to do that hence them being blue collar workers in the first place
>put them in ghettos and leave them at the mercy of the shadiest business practices, like needing to pay 2 dollars to use the shitter.
>While also needing them as the only group of people who can fix the pipes and sweep the floors and do the maintenance that keeps the city running
>And let them be used for experimentation like Suchong's Big Daddies, Tenenbaum's Little Sisters, or Steinman's Picasso surgeries
>Also, since the city is closed off, they're not replaceable
> become shocked when someone is able to galvanize them into turning on their overlords

Someone convince me that Ryan wasn't retarded

It had janitors I'm sure that were paid enough

They weren't. The business owners of Rapture had carte blanche to do whatever they wanted. Zero oversight. Zero protections. Entirely hands off businesses. If the business owners decided a single penny was fair wage then you either had to start your own business, which you're not going to do if you're working for pennies, or find another business owner and hope to God they're both hiring and paying more. Fuck it, you had to pay 2 dollars just to use the shitter. It's the reason why Fontaine was able to walk in and fuck Rapture blind. Just by getting the workers high on Plamids and then turning their rage on the business owners. Peach Wilkins says he follows Atlas exclusively because Atlas seemed like he came from the gutter like him.

And libright thinks its the governments that create megacorps. They make themselves.

Yes. He denied God.

Imagine listening to THE MAN IN THE VATICAN!

Rapture had a problem with illegal smuggling (which I believe Fontaine exploited) so it wasn't a pure test of the system. Kind of a "TRUE communism's never been tried!" argument but I don't see why people think Bioshock offers anything that's a "critique" of objectivism.

>objectivism doesn't work if you try to make a closed society on the ocean floor and find sea slugs that give people magic powers
checkmate, I guess?

t. not a fan of Ayn Rand myself, I'm just saying

this. atheist societies have a 100% failure rate.

Suck my fat cock

His ideology leads to charismatic and ambitious men destroying society for personal gain.

Should have been more careful in his screening process. If he had whacked Fontaine and Lamb before the rot had set in then things would have been alright.

There's a market for workers, most people don't make minimum wage because of competition between employers. The minimum wage is not some magical rule that we would all be starving without. Markets work in the real world, there's no use trying to play doomsayer.
>It's the reason why Fontaine was able to walk in and fuck Rapture blind.
The reason Fontaine was able to do this is that it's a piece of fiction and the creator gets to make up whatever series of events he wants.

He wasnt racist enough

Who was actually policing Rapture?

The entire point of Andrew Ryan was that you can't go all-in on an extremist ideology, you need some level of willingness to compromise.

no. if it were to be implemented in the real world it would have worked flawlessly. don't let the lefty politics of game devs turn you away from conservative political systems

It all hinges on everyone being a 100% rational actor looking out for their best interests 100% of the time. People just aren't like that.

objectivism is not conservative.

That whole argument doesnt work in the real world where labour is a commodity in and of itself. There are labour shortages right now because employers dont want to pay above minimum wage and are either forced to capitulate and pay or remain understaffed.

Yes freedom is gay

The wagies will capitulate once they start starving.

Fontaine didn't break any rules. Fontaine took advantage of everything he could. He found a resource and hire people to maximize its benefit. He sold and marketed it two buyers who emptied out the shelves. Andrew Ryan himself was impressed with Fontaine up until people started worshipping Fontaine rather than himself. But that's kind of the problem with Rapture. There's only a finite amount of money inside of it and a finite amount of people to exploit. Eventually someone was going to be king of the hill and war broke out because, surprise, Andrew Ryan is a person, not an ideology. Eventually his ego was going to break when Fontaine played his game better than him. Just like every ideological system does. That's why human nature needs to be accounted for anytime you make something.

The fact that theyre not is proof the wages are fair

>wages are fair
It's called corporate propaganda. You're a fool if you don't think its real. Even the brainwashed Chinese youth are waking up to this bullshit with their lying flat movement. Unironically lower than a Chink if you fall for this

He took over the fantasy underwater city with his addictive magic because the author wants us to be good liberals who understand that government will make it all better.

Objectivism is one of those "it only works for a few people" sort of philosophies. It requires you to exclude a slave class from it entirely to work.

>zero regulations is a good thing
No. libertarianism doesn't work for the same reason communism doesn't work. People aren't perfect. You really want to potentially have to spend $10 fora gallon of fresh water under the ocean? But competition will fix this! you might say. Not if the person with the monopoly uses his power and influence to shutdown anyone that even might be a problem. Not if the one with the monopoly is buddy buddy with the people in customs that gets everything needed to desalinate marked as contraband so they can't even build new machines. The point is, regulations are hated until you actually need them.

Maybe that is what the author intended but the real problem is that idea's can be perfect. Trying to make an idea real will always fall short of perfection. There is nothing that humans can do that will be perfect.
And that's a good thing :^)

NO GODS OR KINGS

yea

christcuckery is the epitome of failure

>it's a piece of fiction and the creator gets to make up whatever series of events he wants.
This. We can talk about the events of the game but anyone who uses the plot as an argument against an ideology is an irredeemable retard.

>Fontaine didn't break any rules.
So you didnt play the game. Fontaine instantly broke the cardinal rule of no smuggling. He used his fisheries and subs too smuggle in goods from the surface. Then he sold those goods in the black market. Thats hoow he got most of his money, not from his legit business. Then he also strongarmed and straight up killed his competition. He was a mobster. None of that was allowed in rapture.
Play the actual game or dont post.

His choice to give his assassin a golf club and tell him to cave his skull in with it was questionable.

The player character isn't indicated to actually have any more superpowers than anyone else in Rapture. Ryan could've just, like, shot you instead.

Ryan knew there was no escape. His time was up and decided to choose the time himself rather than wait on around on others. He also wanted to demonstrate that the PC was somewhat subhuman in that his willpower could easily be taken away.

>Welcome to my laissez-faire paradise
>No trade allowed
Was Ryan retarded?

I thought the fact they found magical slugs was specifically the reason it fell apart

Uh yeah but you see it doesn't count as statism when he waves his big authoritarial dick around because uh
uh
he's based

yes dude i heckin love rampant unchecked consumerist degeneracy

Magic sea slugs, child blood, poppy seeds. It doesn't really matter what it is specifically so long as you can get people dependent and willing to give you every last penny.

>Ryan knew there was no escape
Against the player character? He could've just shot you. You just walk in and stare blankly at him while he does a monologue and then tells you to kill him. He could've just killed you instead.

>Jewish community exclusively
The whole point was that it wasn't a jew only religion, Peter kill and eat and all that.

No, out of Rapture. At least not with his ego intact. Someone Like Andrew Ryan could never let himself live down the failure of Rapture.

>being an objectivist cuck just Negaunee you let libtards live in your head rent free
You're as much of a tool as they are

THE PARASITE

No.
Correct.

The point to remember is that politics will be present no matter what type of system.

Yea this kind of sums it up perfectly, if he treated people well and only hired who he needed to stay, Rapture could have lasted over 100 years.

>over 100 years
Not exactly a huge achievement. That's just three generations with anything more than total collapse

Yes, it resulted in collapse. No other criteria needed.
Ideology is not a goal, it is a tool for achieving goals such as prosperity, affluence, stability, superiority over rivals, etc. If ideology serves poorly for that, it belongs in the dumpster.
Retards who think that ideology is a goal in itself are no different from some religious zealot fags, except there isn't even metaphysical reward for zealotry like in actual religion, only shooting yourself in a foot again and again because you try to serve barren idea.

Even most viable state-scale structures can't exceed 3 centuries life cycle. Meme ones fold in half a century or less. 100 years is relatively good run.

At first it was Ryan's personal security, but later on as ADAM became widespread Ryan adjusted tactics and refocused on automated security and subliminal control via ADAM rewards and plasmids to control the population.

Half the reason all the Splicers attack you in 1 is because Ryan offered up a humongous ADAM reward for your head.
