Why won't it die?

Because a bunch of guys made some shitty mod years ago that changed the fate of this game forever
because it's unironically the most balanced RTS
You don't like it?
Best RTS. Also really cool that people from all corners of the world are playing it in the same tournaments
We're in the dark age of RTS, no one can remember how to make them and can only maintain the ones that already exist
>best in the series
>it's the only competitive RTS that isn't dominated by Asians
What's not to love?
Why don't Asians like it anyway?
>why do people keep praising this painting? there are MORE paintings you know
this is how stupid you sound
What do you guys think of AoE4?
I like it
isn't gook click friendly
Unironically tho why? She look ugly af fr
I have never heard of anyone playing as the Japs
I like it, but 2DE is too good.
the smash bros melee of rts
It isn't that they don't like it, it's just that StarCraft has historically been their game. There are several Asian players in the Top 100
too e-sports oriented
even on Campaigns you gotta be on the edge playing as fast as possible
AOEII has this on multi ofc but Campaigns are more about taking it slow and enjoying the story
the AOE4 campaigns feel like multiplayer training, and that's just stupid
It's a good game and Microsoft did the right thing in remaking it. I dunno what sequence of events led MS to actually making a good remake and both not watering down the difficulty (fuck you scouting isn't skill, auto-scout is a good addition) and also not breaking the game with a bunch of bullshit microtransactions, but I'm glad it happened. Maybe now that they own Blizzard they'll give Starcraft the same treatment and we'll have a resurgence of real RTS games.
It's that good.
no reason to make new ones when the existing ones are already perfect
More that it didn't catch on with Koreans. More oddly is that the original AoE in fact might as well be Vietnam's Starcraft, some of them do play AoE II as well which has plenty of high level Chinese players and there's even some Japs here and there. Shit's got players from nearly everywhere.
>I dunno what sequence of events led MS to actually making a good remake
Hiring modders that formed an LLC who actually give a fuck about the game.
>Hiring modders that formed an LLC who actually give a fuck about the game.
Based modders saving gaming yet again.
Same reason why americans love Street Fighter but hate KoF
That's wrong though.
AoE4 improves on AoE2.
Nah AoE4 mid af fr *skull emoji*
What's the ps2 version like?
Low resolution, extremely zoomed in view, max 4 players and its pop capped to something like 50 with most of the maps and civs missing
youtube.com
Never saw it but from this footage it looks like a fucking java phone game
i used to play java civilization as a kid on my shitty sonic ericson
there also was a pirate game where you could trade and sell spices or load up with cannons to battle others but i don't really remember the name of that game. I didn't knew english in the past, now.. ;-;
>multiplayer function on the ps2 copy of aoe2
WwwwHAAAT?!
PS2 could connect to the internet, hence FFXI and the first Metal Gear Online
i know, but i refuse to believe two humans ever played aoe2 online with their ps2
It'd look a lot better if da Vinci didn't use crap varnish that turned all of his paintings brown over time.
>why won't it die?
Micromanagement, son. They harden in response to meele units.
Is this the castlevania SOTN of RTS?
>pirate game where you could trade and sell spices or load up with cannons
Kinda sounds like High Seas Trader
hmm maybe
any other games like this?
Yeah he should have used a more modern one, not that varnish that was available at the time.
He could've epoxy'd it aswell.
You DID play it, right?
Only know on PC, Corsairs is pretty cool but more combat based. If you want more trade and acquiring ships and managing your fleet you can try Cutthroats.
I understand you're trying use an analogy, but calling game Y (SOTN as your example or Dark Souls) of X genre is retarded. It would be the same if I was calling watermelons a cucumbers of fruits, because both are juicy.
I want a DE of this game SO FUCKING BAD
Yes, i replayed a few years ago and its surprisingly wonky considering it came after AoE 2. Overall not very good.
Loved it, still have it installed
Probably since they sort of had the basic AoE II tech tree to work off as a skeleton for a new RTS and didn't have a lot of time.
>4sperg
LOL. Enjoy your dead game faggot.
Shit game that needs to die (and luckily is dying) for the sake of the Age communities health.
The campaigns are way fucking harder than even 2DE's. Or maybe I just don't understand how to play SWGB well.
Fucking Pirate Gold on Genesis was the best. Used to play it with my dad all the time as a kid.
The Sid Meier's remakes are good too.
developers forgot how to make good RTS games so it's still the best one after two decades
1. it is genuinely fucking great
2. very active competitive scene. competitive AoE2 is probably as analyzed chess by now.
its not starcraft
sid meier had pirate games, you say?
Is aoe4 dead or should I install it and try multiplayer? I'm guessing I missed the boat and will just get raped if I try.
He made the originals when he was still at Microprose. Think the first one was for C64 but I'm not sure. There was a great 3D remake around 2006ish that got ported to pretty much every device imaginable. Great game.
>AOE4
>AoE4 improves on AoE2.
in some aspects. its worse in others. hence why it's already dying
Anyone remember this one?
>in some aspects
Name 1.
It's literally nothing but sidegrades that would make for a different experience like asynchronous civs and boardable walls. And objective downgrades like how water works, arrow mechanics, how siege works, etc. Unit control and pathing literally isn't better than a 20 year old game.
It's good in its own right, but I still prefer AoE2DE more.
8,719 players right now and had a update release one or two weeks ago
Ouch. Why did they even bother?
>user conveniently omits that said "update" only adds features that have been in every other Age game since day 1
>>>>>Like a fucking ranked queue
Nice update 4fags. I'll be enjoying my 4 new civs and ELEPHANTS
how's rise of nations compared to this? just got the extended edition
Good morning sirs we have done the needful and produced a new expansion for you.
DO not redeem Age of Empires 4.
i only played AoE2 for the God-tier campaign, never cared about competitive autism. Since AoE4 barely has a campaign, I saw zero reason t buy it.
SIR
SIR WHY DID YOU REDEEM THE FUCKING GAME
>It's autism because I'm scared of build orders
You are depriving yourself of the single best online multiplayer experience on the entire market user
It's fine I guess. The graphics are modernized and the sound design is good. There is a ranked ladder system that is active and I'm sure there will be other noobs to play against. I think you could also very easily just skip the game and play 2 or some other RTS and not being missing out on anything. The campaigns are trash and everything else is extremely barebones.
Take your meds AoE2 schizo
I dislike how it's not about improvization, but about memorizing the optimized move.
>If you play Celts and your opponent Chinese and he has 435 villagers at minute 43533 of the game, you need to counter by rushing
You ACTUALLY need to know this shit if you want to git gud.
Enjoy finally being able to change your player color. 4fag. That's some serious content right there.
Because no good RTS games are being made, people have to resort to playing old games
>Name 1.
Uuuuh ... graphics? And perhaps its nice for some to have some genuinely new mechanics after 20+ years.
Meds now
>Muddy shit vs the pinnacle of pixel art
Try again.
>New mechanics
Sidegrades
yeah... balanced
i guess thats why every faggot i play with picks either english or french civ
>memorizing the optimized move
I'm not going to say that there isnt good strategies and build orders, but your view of RTS comes from Yea Forums exagerations. If you can't beat your oponents with improv tatics, smart micro.. It's a YOU problem, not a GAME problem.
>AoE4
They made a aoe4? wtf, why haven't I heard about this until now
they still lose to many civs if both players' skills are equal. aoe2 has been continuously re-balanced for years and years
Unfinished flop.
Build orders are fine, you ought to know them even for the campaign. But the whole early game has to be really, really hyperoptimized, up to the exact number of villagers for every resource for every civ.
I don't blame it on the game, it's just how the competitive scene is extremely professionalized.
My two guesses is that either because Yea Forums rarely talk about RTSs and when it does it is mostly nostalgiafagging or because you also dont know that there is a new board called /vst/ dedicated to strategy vidya.
yes
