I was a little sad because it felt like she really enjoyed our journey together despite my almost never seeing her. Having it end when she was clearly enjoying it was just a little bittersweet, but ultimately it's what she wanted so it evens out.

I didn't miss her Marika prompts at churches so while it wasn't perfect, between those and her talking to me from Lyndell to mountaintops of the giants, I did start to care and not want her to die. It's a shame some of her most heartfelt moments and overall positive view of the world comes at the heels of betraying her.

I'm a huge contrarian that often likes characters people dislike, but she basically just doesn't exist. I don't know what they were thinking.

I honestly felt nothing. She's basically just a hitchhiker right up until the end, in which she burns herself alive. I mean, I guess I appreciate what she did, but I felt a stronger connection to Torrent for fuck's sake. Maybe if they gave her more spots to talk or gave her personality beyond dumping lore on you, I would've formed some kind of connection. But as it stands, she's just there to give you Torrent/the power to level up, then can literally fuck off until the end of the game if you don't hit certain sites of grace. At least with the older firekeepers and level-up NPCs, you constantly went back to them, talked to them, saw them, even could have them react to emotes. It sucked to have to constantly go back to an NPC to level up, but it at least brought about some familiarity. Melina just...existed. That's it. It sucked she died I guess. But it's also what she wanted? What she was destined to do?

This is why you have so many people flipping their shit over Ranni. Ranni gets some cute bits of dialogue, a proper quest line, interesting characters surrounding her, and the sense throughout it all that you're truly fighting to find/support her. Melina faded into the background as a result.

I only cried over Blaidd and Melina in this game. Iji was sad but I think because he just sat in that one place all game and didn't do anything I cared less. Everyone else was totally forgettable and I didn't care.

Fucking amazing. FromSoftware has always done that shit with bonfires/graces resetting everything, but it was fucking hilarious to essentially wave goodbye, turn around, and an entire war broke out. Hard to feel bad for Iji when I was laughing my ass off at the idea of my tarnished just humming along to himself as dozens of assassin's stab the shit out of him.

We spoke 5, maybe 6 times tops. Melina was so poorly implemented as a character that I felt almost nothing when she sacrificed herself and often times even forgot we were traveling """"together"""" in the first place. She should have appeared every time you sat at a grace and done her levelup speech in the background when you leveled like DeS or Bloodborne, and had more dialogue in general.

Her death was poorly communicated to the player in the cutscene. Cope.

Unironically one of the best side stories FromSoftware has done. It doesn't rely on constant lore dumps, is easy to keep up with since it's tied to important gameplay functions and progresses naturally with the main quest, and often times even redirects focus onto the protagonist (Hewg eventually calling you a lord before losing himself, Roderika seeking your guidance and asking you for help talking to Hewg, etc).

Fucking underrated as hell.
