I personally can't cause I don't play that garbage genre, but considering how low the bar for open world is, it's not really a big compliment.
It's the best open world I've ever played and I still dropped the game halfway through :)

XCX's world is still absolutely unmatched.
However Elden ring being a complete game that has its story more or less finished, with its plot being the focus of what you do in the game, makes it better.
Elden Ring is the best open world game until XCX2 comes out one day

Monlith Soft make better open world games of scope and player movement
Bethesda makes better atmospheric open worlds to previously the best roleplaying
Rockstar make better sandboxes with at times amazing detail
This game is nice and all but doesn't come close to them even when it gets close to matching its predecessors

It really isn't. I was playing my first ever playthrough of BotW when Elden Ring was released. Just told myself I'd make a character first and then get back to Zelda. 170 hours later I beat Elden Ring and still haven't even picked up BotW again. BotW is a barren wasteland compared to Elden Ring. Most of the shit in BotW are literally USELESS moblin camps. Why would I clear these things? The fucking chest with 5 arrows in it? Are you fucking kidding me?

The good thing about Breath of the Wild is that you're given an infinite number of ways to tackle problems, whereas you're only given a finite number of solutions to encounters in Elden Ring. The inventory expansion and shrines play into this.
