game play is:
Char stats, no hit ratio all land, Unique weps for almost all chars (some are hyper dog shit or other have 4 skills), 4 skill slots, special skills like luna/ignis etc..
Looks simple right? wrong the last gen of powercrep + the wall text make pointless the base char stats, one char by just exist can get to 18 stats to all stats to 99, some units have % dmg reduction make it more anoying to kill etc... and the worst of all is the movment shenenigans

Huge roster but there's the gacha mechanics of course.
You have plenty of skill and build options to play with and I think its a passable experience if you don't spend money or metafag but getting started just now might be a little overwhelming

To add to the other two anons, units are mostly defined by their unique weapons and personal skills. Both have become more and more overpowered over the years to the point where many characters can't keep up anymore. The latest Edelgard is so loaded that only units that have 2-3 skills to specifically counter her can actually fight her.
Stats don't play too much into it unless the unit gets enough bonus stats from skills to utterly break the game. It also has the problem of having way too many skills on top of the AI being near impossible to understand. So oftentimes you'll suddenly have units flying in your face from far away because you didn't check the 20+ skills on the enemy team and their interactions.

Tbf canto is a keyword and the last two paragraphs are just reminder texts. But I also just throw stat monsters at enemies while debuffing them. If they succeed, nice. Else I figure out why they don't and eliminate that before throwing them in. Repeat until success.

You take advantage of all the movement boosting effects to just gank people and retreat to safety due to CANTOOOOOO while hoping your far save tank(who forces the enemy to engage them if they attack someone within 2 spaces of them with ranged units) can prevent them from ganking you first. There is a mechanic that forces people towards the center(passive score gain if you have more units in the zone) but ehhhh. Pvp is pretty much dead because unsurprisingly everyone fucking hates it. Like you get top 6k or something just doing the obligatory bot matches

You use units with obnoxious movement abilities. There's a unit that has a skill where moving through them doesn't count as a space moved, so a 3-move unit can move 4 spaces as long as they pass through them. This unit also has an ability where they can give that skill to your entire time, essentially giving your team like 7 or 8 move, making it pretty easy to move in and snipe the opposing team from the opposite side of the map.
Cancer like that is how you play PvP (unrestricted). There's a mode that limits the units you can bring to those released during or before Book 3.

It was tolerable at best and it gave good rewards, but of course IS in their infinite knowledge decided to add ranks, bonus for using Legendary/Mythic units and even an event where you have to create FIVE whole teams where you and your opponent pick which ones can't be usedfor the battle, which is useless against whales who bring fully merged teams filled with powercreeping units.
Needless to say, is by far the worst mode in the entire game and is completely dead outside of the biweekly ranked ones which you only need to fight once to get good rewards anyway, there's no incentive to rank higher whatsoever.
If it makes you feel better, she just got a refine.
