I have not given even the briefest of glances to the Yakuza franchise today just because I played the first game like 15 years ago on the PS2 and it was so fucking shit fuck boring a game that even today I still don't want anything to do with this franchise. That is how bad the state of gaming is today. Stuff that was universally hated and a notorious bomb over a decade ago is a strong franchise today despite still being every bit as shit as it was day one. Console gaming is dead. Completely and utterly dead. Console gamers should kill themselves.

I thought it was good. Overrated by here and redditors but still solid. No major flaws with the game, the story/writing was a bit rushed I felt though like Majima falling in love with Makoto within days, all the emotional shit with Nishiki not wanting to shoot Kiryu even though they'd been hardly any build up to it)
Other than that I liked it. 7/10. I preferred Yakuza Like a Dragon which was my first mind you

I don't understand the hate about 0. Is it because it's the one that popularized the series or is this just another case of "popular bad"?

Yakuza 5 made me feel like Majima doesn't really love Makoto, not in the same way he loves Mirei Park. Maybe he saw in her rather a surrogate daughter.
Xavier Sanchez
>didn't rank streets of kamurocho
We got a poseur over here!
Matthew Ramirez
He loved her but not to the extent he loves Park. K2 directly interferes with a lot of how 5 explained Majima's relationship because he's smitten over Makoto even that long later when it's stated in 5 Majima genuinely loved Park to the point that he was obsessed about her more than two decades later and constantly regretting letting her go. With Makoto he was fine with letting her leave and live her life as long as the guy passed his check. He was also fine with dragging Park into the Yakuza life while with Makoto he was okay with letting her go with the doctor to stay away from it even though he was sad he wouldn't see her again. The stuff in Majima Saga really comes off as just a way to get her out of the way so 5 can happen because she's a massive issue with the story going forward so I don't know why they did the romance subplot to begin with when 5 came out several years prior to 0.

Whinning about muh censorship for a PC port is pretty retarded because you can restore the stuff that's been cut through mods. And Yakuza games are played the best on PC because you can modify to improve the game and restore some stuff that's cut, such as licensed music, something that can't be done on consoles.

You want an honest answer? Based on my observations since it came out on PS4 it's quite a lot of things people take issue with.
>People who do the "Play 0 and drop the series because it will never get better" thing which happens more or less every thread which heavily discourages people from trying the other games because that one guy only really liked 0 due to not understanding 0 was a newer game.
>People constantly get told 1 and 2 are outdated/old/will dissuade people from trying the series but then completely sidestep the issue of 0 starting them with over a decade of improvements while throwing them all around with writing, engines, and mechanics if they decide to follow chronologically.
>The constant discouragement of release order and putting K1 and K2 higher rather than equals that are all worth trying out for their differences.
>People put characters like Nishiki, Sera, Makoto, and Shimano on a pedestal and then complain when they're literal who characters even in K1.
Granted, that's 0's fault, but they treat that as an affront to 1 rather than what it originally was since K1 did quite a lot to flesh them out more than they were and if anything turned Nishiki from one of the worst antagonists to one of the better ones.
>People constantly can't grasp/come to terms with when Majima "went insane" when 0 shoves it in your face with multiple scenes towards the end and then complain that 1 is bad because of it.
>People's attachment to Makoto really leads to a lot of complaints that wouldn't be a thing if they just played 4 or 5.
Again, 0's writing's fault.
>People put the writing as the pinnacle of Yakuza writing when it's still filled with tons of ridiculously contrived or insane moments, particularly revolving around Tachibana and Makoto.
>People also put Shibusawa as one of the best bosses in the series when, as a character, he's a literal who and barely even in the game.
Still have more to add since we're going deep on this.
Jonathan Butler
>0 pandering ever since it came out is pretty insane compared to any other game in the series.
DoD was changed into a significantly worse DoD in 6 and K2 not to mention they destroyed it in K1 for 20+ hours when it's his iconic style to push the 0 styles again, PCF is now in most of the new games, Online brought back Kuze for Ryuji's story, Munan Chohept has been in like four games now, Kiryu in 7 is basically just 0 Kiryu which is very disappointing in my opinion, Nugget variants were in both FotNS and 7, Amon is now all about "muh strength" instead of murdering Kiryu thanks to 0, 1's entire structure was destroyed to shove Majima in there for Majima Everywhere, Four Shine, Majima Saga, and so on.
Now, there's nothing wrong with reusing substory jokes as long as they're changed, I love me some of the suicidal couple or Il-Yu Jin getting himself into another wacky situation, but it's like they want to try to replicate 0's things again and again while rarely pulling from other substories. Lost Judgment is focusing more on substories and their interconnectivity so it's able to step away from this at least.
>People conveniently forget Kuze being reused like five times for boss battles losing every single time but then complain that someone like Ryuji isn't threatening at all which is baffling.
>People coming off of 0 treat what were the most hype boss fights like Ryuji and Mine as if they don't matter at all and are garbage because they've experienced things differently.
Piggybacking off of the previous note, many things in general people have complaints about are because they started with 0 since things were already explained in the multitude of games that came before 0.
There's contrarianism and hatred of the popularity of course, and there's an annoyance of the type of fans it introduces into discussions, but there's still valid reasons why people are angry due to the disjointed view of other games and effects it's had on other games.

>I don't understand the hate about 0.
>Is it because it's the one that popularized the series or is this just another case of "popular bad"?
Unironically yes. When it came out Yea Forums absolutely loved it. Until they realised that people are now actually interested in the franchise.
Because as often enough: "I wish this franchise would be more popular" actually translates to "I wish I would be getting recognition for playing this".
When 0 came out, nobody gave a shit about those playing the franchise anymore.
So franchise fags are butthurt.
They start seething especially when people start recommending skipping some games. Because they put in the time, so in their mind everyone should.
Yakuza 5 is fanfiction.

>>Enemies are incredibly easy, and difficulty is added artificially such as placing gunmen far away who constantly stagger you with shots

First Yakuza game I reckon?
Combat is always braindead easy. Depending on the game you can literally stand around doing nothing and it'll take up to 30seconds for enemies to attack you as they're all hardwired to attack when you are attacking.
Bosses have always broken half the mechanics or ignored them to even be halfway difficult.
Carter White
0 is a bit deceiving like that, because I became very invested in Majima as most newcomers did, and funny eyepatch man shtick in Kiwami helps to patch the situation, but the situation is that Majima is really a mini-boss, a comic relief. So a lot of people probably feel betrayed by expectations 0 sets for characters. But I see that as a good way of filtering wrong kind of people, because, while 0 gives insane amount of favors to Majima, Kiryu's storyline is also rock solid and if you are invested in Kiryu you have no reason not to play further.
Aiden Johnson
It's the resident 0 schizo poster, he was going into overdrive in yesterdays Yakuza thread and is still trying to chase the high of slightly de-railing it.
Caleb Scott
>something that can't be done on consoles.
Huh? Almost all the music patches are ported versions of PS3/PS4 licensed music patches. There's restoration patches for pretty much all the PS3 and PS4 games that required it.
The PC versions are superior mainly because of how easy it is to mod them without needing a hacked system, 4K and for the Remastered Collection the AI upscaled textures, and the plethora of mods (Pretty sure a majority of them can still be used on a PS3 and PS4) but at the cost of issues that simply don't exist in the console versions.
0's inventory wiping is a simple example not to mention darts being completely broken with insta-speed throws and dropping inputs, not to mention all the arcade games being the incorrect version leading to significantly harder minigame requirements. K2's broken physics during fights and the UFO catcher is another example which Silent Patch doesn't fix (It might fix UFO catcher, I can't remember, I know it fixes Toylets). The Remastered Collection was even worse than on console because of all the new minigame bugs it exclusively had like instant fish biting, that one hostess club freeze, all those 5-exclusive minigame glitches that got patched out, etc.
You're also still better off emulating 3 if you understand Japanese despite the lower resolution and framerate if you want the complete experience so PC doesn't really win in that respect either since you're going back to the console side of things. Then there's the Black Panther games which have a bunch of issues when emulated with regards to broken visuals and increased crashes. PS3 Ishin is also at a lower framerate and resolution if you want to emulate it.
Levi Campbell
>there's an annoyance of the type of fans it introduces into discussions
That's a totally one sided hateboner for people not starting where you started.
People who start with 0 and love the game, leave it at that, and then either like them or not. You're the only one thinking about those people.
Are you retarded? Majima has been a fan-meme WAY before 0 came out.
Also
>setting expectations
Another thing that's deeply retarded. RGG is one of the worst fucking franchises when it comes to continuity.
There is no such thing as setting expectations. And 0 doesn't set more than say 4, which's plotpoints at the end are literally all dropped and/or retconned at the start of 5.
0 is probably one of THE most open and shut games besides 1 and 6, the franchise has ever produced.
All other games "set expectations" to much higher degrees.
I still remember when everyone thought Daigo would be a playable character or at least a major character.
Whoops.
Or how everyone was looking forward to seeing Saejima as the head of a family again in 5.
Whoops.
RGG drops important storylines and characters quicker than shit.
And ironically 0, is the least guilty in this regard.
You fags need to stop seething at the qualitative best classic RGG game and just calm the fuck down.
Isaiah Scott
When will Sega translate the samurai shit games. If Dai Gyakuten Saiban did it why can't they do it.
