That's why the harry potter Hogwarts shit was so appealing: what if there was a magic school that was not only really nice but also cool and exciting?

It's romantic and part of being a teenager. I still keep mine stored somewhere as a memento.

That's down to shit teachers. My school had this one teacher who commanded attention simply by being charismatic and entertaining, he loved what he did. Juggled history, maths and sports, but also subbed in for other subjects where comfortable and he was always better than whoever the fuck else normally taught those lessons. Nobody misbehaved, everybody paid attention.

Clothing is only a "target" if the person was going to get bullied anyway. There's still social pressure to wear better clothes, but it's mostly a non issue - or at least, that's my memory of it from more than a decade ago.

it's just a formal dance that happens at the end of the school year
kids dress up in formal wear (suit/tuxedo and nice dress), girls go get their hair done up fancy, nails, makeup to the 9s
usually there are lots of photos by parents before you go
the event itself is held in some cheap conference center room, cheap dj, okay catering, bland safe music
it gets memed up as this amazing night, but it's mostly the same as any other school dance except more expensive
then the kids go home, change out of their fancy clothes, then go somewhere for a real party

Uniforms are cool but here in Latin America they are quite boring, just a t-shirt with the school logo, at least for those who want to have more individuality the uniform code is very loose, as long as you are wearing the shirt and following the overall dress code anything goes.

It's a huge opportunity for bullying because one student can squirt catsup on another, putting their uniform out of compliance, and then the bishop can be walked over and that person given a detention for wearing stained clothes. Same for just stealing clothes from the gym locker room or not wearing the correct shoes or correct socks, or being caught out of uniform anywhere on campus even in the parking lot. I went to a catholic school with uniforms and got this shit constantly by the white half subsidizing the alien half. If you give someone one iota of power they will always abuse it, even if it's just taking your school branded pencils and replacing them with noncompliant pencils.

I didn't go. Sometimes feels like I missed out, but ah well what can you do. My friend group was too autistic, no one went and so neither did I. It can be pretty random. One kid has a chip on his shoulder and singles out another for some petty reason. And then kids following the group join in and justify it by saying stuff about how they deserved it.

You are coping extremely hard to deal with the fact that you are on the lowest rung. The reason that bullies can get away with what they do is because the majority of people dislike the person who is being bullied more than they dislike the bully, and they approve of the bully's actions.
