Why play as your favorite characters in smash when you can play them in their own games which are much better than smash?

Honestly I don't think Square Enix cares that much about licensing him out, they let him show up in the original M&L, they also let him show up as a spirit or Mii outfit.

I just don't think Nintendo/Sakurai actually seriously tried to get him playable because he probably wasn't actually THAT popular on the ballot. Most likely he was in the same boat with Isaac and Krystal, characters popular enough to get noticed through a Mii outfit or assist trophy but not enough to actually be made playable. It's pretty telling that he was skipped over for THREE different SE reps (FOUR if you count Sora even though he belongs to The Mouse) while say, Banjo-Kazooie were the first ever Microsoft characters in Smash.

If there's one character that was pushed purely due to autism and no other factor it's this guy, and I say this as someone who played SMRPG a couple of decades ago and loved it. Banjo had a key factor that put him above Sora being that he has the "Honorary Nintendo" factor, hell he was literally born a Nintendo guy so he felt much more fulfilling with how "he came back home" because he pretty much did

Meanwhile Sora at the end of the day as big as he was, he was more of an aspie fanfic guy in the same veign as getting Goku in Smash, like also Cloud and Seph,hell they are even aligned together in the trailer, he did have a big factor of being "impossible" when that was hindered by that fact that we seen that before with both Banjo having to work with a big competing company that is MSoft, not to mention it also felt that we seen him before having the anime sword guy aesthetic
