>300 different weapons
>game gives you just enough "max rank for the area" for one weapon
what is the point
300 different weapons
git gud lol
its infinite though
So you play the game multiple time to try different weapons.
>can upgrade like 10 different somber weapons to max level at any given point
>can only upgrade a single regular weapon to way lower than the somber equivalents
what the fuck was miyazaki smoking when he distributed smithing stones around the world?
New Game+
I don't wanna play a game this long multiple times wtf
even then, I might do it max TWO TIMES
that means I still ignore 98% of all weapons in the game
You can upgrade as many weapons as you want to +24 or +9. And the difference between +24/+9 and +25/+10 isn't nearly as significant as you think. If you can't complete the game with a nearly maxed out weapon then it's a skill issue, not a smithing stone issue.
shitty devs
that's all there is to it
>that means I still ignore 98% of all weapons in the game
Considering 98% of the weapons can be ignored because just worse then the other 2%, seem fair.
Japanese game design, I guess
Just find some bell bearings and buy as many stones for +24 and +9 as you need.
That is what the issue is and you know it
The game heavily incentives to just sticking to a single weapon, from the beginning to the end
Where's the cheat table that makes upgrades free? I want to try a few builds without spending 100+ hours replaying the whole goddamn game
>just try different weapons after the game is basically over
There IS no issue. You just have zoomer brain and thing you HAVE to max something out just because it can be. Nigger, you can play through the whole fucking game at RL1 with an unupgraded weapon. Do you really think you NEED that +25? What are you? Crippled?
Bell bearings
thread over
Why are you stupid/lying? You get a ridiculous amount of Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones. Well over 10.
It's mostly cosmetic anyway. They will have the same or similar move sets to the class they belong to.
That doesn't excuse the game design of not being able to experiment with new weapons when your halfway through the game
>just buy the stones after you no longer need them
that's not the point
by the time i had a +15 regular weapon i already had a +9 somber weapon that did like twice the damage
Nope. You can literally upgrade every weapon you find to +24 or +9 if special, and like 30 of them to +25 and +10.
he's not talking about endgame
he's talking about mid-game
like around Altus and stuff
by then you can easily have 10 unique weapons at +5/+6
but you'll only have enough stones to upgrade 1 or 2 non-unique weapons to +15/+18
>lets make upgrade material requirements the same as the game that fucking showered you in them while also making them significantly more rare than in the games that didn't
>lets also put a million somber stones everywhere even though you only need one for any given weapon
god you just dont get it do you
tell me how many [6] stones you had at morgott
You can experiment, you just refuse to because its not +20 like your current weapon. Smithing stones up to +24 and +9 somber are also infinite. You have no excuse
>bell bearing to get smithing stone 5 is only found in mountaintop of giants
oh wow that will surely help me when at that point the game expects you to have +20 weapons
>you can get a somber to +4 just by visiting Iji
What were they thinking?
AAAAAAAAAH STOP SAYING FUCKING BELL BEARING
YOU DID NOT HAVE INFINITE 1-3 STONES AT MARGIT DID YOU
>all can be purchased before final boss and 90% upgraded before that
git gud faggot
>Smithing stones up to +24 and +9 somber are also infinite
After having finishing fucking Farum Azula
By the time you can get infinite +24 weapons you have like 3 bosses left to do in the game
Margit is the first boss of the game, where all weapons are +0, so perfect for experimenting
I couldn't even make a third weapon +8 after my main two were +12
That's gimping yourself and discourages experimentation even if you like the weapon.
You think you're making a point but you're only validating the grievance
it might be cool to do an estus type approach to weapons. like a key item that you upgrade via much rarer materials and can simply apply to whatever weapon you want to use. could have three or four of them total to facilitate using multiple weapons. also there could be a couple different types of this key item, to preserve the normal stones/special weapon stones upgrade paths. the advantage would be that you could immediately effectively use any weapon you pick up and finding upgrade materials would be MUCH more rewarding. the disadvantage would be that you lose out on an item, smithing stones, to populate the world with in plenty, and that seems to already be a complaint in these games, that there aren't enough things that you're really happy to be picking up
You don't have access to most weapons at that point.
Technically you 'could' - by ignoring Stormveil and getting to Altus either by Dectus lift or Ruin-Strewn Precipice, then going to Sealed Tunnel.
So play with a +10. You do what, 150 less damage? That's not going to change a damn thing
By the time I can get it to +10, my other weapons are around +16, maybe more
All non ancient smithing stones are infinite, you can buy that shit from a vendor
you also get a couple +5 somber stones just by visiting redmane castle which will have the festival ongoing
>finally I unlocked all the smithing stones! now I can finally test if erdtree dagger is a good weapon!
Yes and you do like 100 or less damage than your +16. That's not gimping yourself
After you're 95 percent done unless you rushed bearings using a guide.
Brilliant design.
These are my favorite games is this is the most valid criticism of elden ring, the weapon profession has been retardedly gimped compared to previous entries
midgame dumbo
My somber weapon will almost always be better than my regular weapon just be all I need to upgrade it is ONE stone, and the distribution supports that easily
Bro you don't need a super upgraded weapon to kill fucking margit. You don't need to be over geared for Stormveil.
I'm sure it isn't at all when using mimic tear lol
You instantly know the erdtree dagger is a good weapon by virtue of its R2 and natural FTH scaling, it's the best dagger in the game for Flame Art/Holy infusions.
which is a whole lot more difficult than just finding the friendly giant and talking to them
since it either requires you to fight your way past the magma wyrm or else know exactly where to get the medallion half in caelid
The problem is that by the time you get the bells to buy more upgrade materials your main weapon is already like 5 levels higher than whatever the bell would give you, so it's very hard to have more than one or two regular smithing stone weapons upgraded at the same level throughout a playthrough until the very end when you can suddenly fully upgrade every weapon in the game
god why do you people miss the point
why does it fly over your head
People are saying they don't think it's a problem. I'm inclined to disagree
>i need the most powerful weapon I can possibly have to play the game
Thats a yikes from me dawg. The difference between +12 and +15 isn't that big.
5 levels higher for normal upgrade path doesn't mean shit. If you refuse to try new weapons bc it does a tiny bit less damage thats your problem
Six fucking games in the series and they still can't do weapon upgrades right.
you'll only have enough stones to upgrade 2 weapons to +12 by the time you face Radahn
want to try and experiment with new weapon types? get fucked bucko
The upgrade system is bad and pointless. It's a thinly veiled reward treadmill that can't even be bothered to come up with different names for each tier. This doesn't negate how cool it is to have so many different weapon move sets, but it does undermine itself a bit.
Your point is retarded. Use whatever weapon you want and stop being a little bitch. There is no reason for you to have easy access to weapon upgrades at the beginning of the game. The truth is that you do though if you know where to go.
I can finally get another weapon to +12 or maybe +14 if I'm lucky and my main is +19 (my seal for incants is around +16)
Any good game developer should notice in playtesting that players aren't experimenting with all the cool weapons they made.
what about the difference between +6 and +15
pretty significant isn't it?
Because you can get your main weapon to +15 before you get infinite stones to get to +6
That shit isn't a tiny bit less damage and you know it you worthless fucking faggot
BUT YOU HAVE EASY ACCESS TO UPGRADES ALWAYS
BUT ONLY TO ONE OR TWO WEAPONS
Weapon upgrades were fine in every previous game. The problem in Elden Ring is that the only way to get upgrade materials is to find them as treasure or buy them since enemies only drop them at a rate of 0.0001%.
by your point you shouldn't have access to weapon upgrades what so ever
after all it's just 100 damage, why bother upgrading your weapons at all
you did never upgrade your weapons did you?
wouldn't want to out yourself as a hypocrite now would you?
or maybe
just maybe
you do know that DUE TO HOW THE DAMAGE REDUCTION IN THE GAME WORKS 100 EXTRA DAMAGE CAN BASICALLY DOUBLE YOUR DPS LATEGAME
>using non somber weapons
Dude like what the fuck even is your problem?
>endgame area have +25s and +10 uniques
>loots smithing stone 5
Just like every other souls game. He'll even in BB where there weee like 5 weapons at release, I only used the cane.
this shit made me realize how much I missed just picking up any weapon the enemy drops and just whacking people with it like in BoTW or TES games
It's bullshit how if you find a cool sword, at minmum you have to stop what you are doing, warp the hub, talk to captain "Thought you Died" and that's assuming you already have the stones/runes necessary to actually upgrade the thing.
Don't be mad you locked yourself into one weapon for 60 hours and hated it because you were too scared to use another weapon
jokes on you, I picked Morningstar to stick with and it has been awesome
at least these days you can actually use the armor you pick up
when will the game stop making every boss weapon a curved greatsword
>give out a zillion respecs to encourage experimenting with different builds
>make applying and removing ashes of war and affinities completely free and reversible to encourage experimenting with different builds
>make smithing stones a pain in the fucking ass to find, discouraging experimenting with different weapons
Fromsoft ALMOST had it but they just had to fuck up somehwere.
take your bets here
the fag saying upgrade level doesn't matter
what summon did he use for all his boss battles
Imma go with Lhutel
I found a Smithing Stone 3 next to a Somber 5 in Nokron. I don't know what the fuck that's about.
Yeah, the lack of stones really disincentives experimentation, especially if you like trying out new weapons in PVP and co-op. Not really sure why, since even in PVP having multiple similarly upgraded weapons doesn't really give you an advantage because the weight system keeps that in check.
I feel like if regular weapons just followed the same 1:1 stone-upgrade path that somber weapons did, it wouldn't be a problem. It really does seem backwards that legendary magic bullshit weapons are much easier to level up a handful of than regular basic swords and axes you find laying around.
Also just a slight annoying inconvenience that every time you want to upgrade something, you need to teleport back to the Hold, upgrade them, then almost certainly run across and buy more stones, then upgrade the rest of the way.
Should've let you buy smithboxes from Hewg like you could in Dark Souls.
just copy your save file bro, you're not on a console right?
Good choice, try the bigger version in great stars
>Weapon upgrades were fine in every previous game.
No, Elden Ring just exacerbated the existing problems tenfold.
>still can't compare weapon stats without upgrading both weapons to the same level first.
>still have too few stones if you want to try a lot of weapons
>still have too -many- stones if you just stick with one weapon, making a lot of the loot worthless.
Bonus:
>You only need one weapon anyway because all weapons play identically, the only difference being how many R1s you can fire off between boss attacks.
You're genuinely fucking retarded
I have been using multiple weapons of varying levels, It's fucking bullshit how many somber weapons you can have at the same upgrade level no problem but get barely enough regular stones to keep more than two upgraded at around the same level, I do less damage and do fine and have fun anyways, But it's still fucking shit and you know it fuckface
>can't farm ancient dragon stones
what purpose does this serve? to incentivize people to dupe them?
I did too bro and I love it but the glaring flaw in the weapon progression design is still worth bitching about
instead of having an upgrade system, why not just make late game sword drops better than early drops
"but but my my shitty rusty sword!!! HOW CAN IT BE WORSE THAN THE GOD KING SWORD OF ASS RAPING???"
>look at map
>find red circle which means a tunnel
>go in
>loot every smithing stone
>never have to worry about them
What is the issue?
good lord imagine the low level invasions
You just agreed with me that doing less dmg is fine and you had fun anyway. So if I'm geniunely retarded, so are you, fuckface
They really needed to drop the first mining bell in Limgrave and go from there.
That's boring.
>try to use new weapon
>realize you need an entire mine worth of smithing stones to upgrade it
>realize there's no more mines left since you cleared them all out to upgrade the weapon you're currently using
that's the problem
I keep forgetting about Iji.
remove upgrades
make scaling matter much more, tying weapon damage to build and level rather than gay material collecting
there i fixed it
Who cares, scrap that entire mechanic anyway if they don't plan of fixing it. Besides, the only way a low level player is going to survive an invasion anyway is if they brought butt buddies.
You know what it is? Fucking annoying. It is a flaw. It does not apply to other weapon types. It should not be this way. Choke on your dick and die
Tie upgrading to key items that you find in the mines
I might launch a trainer to fix this shit.
>b-b-b-b-bell bearing !
To get all of them you basically need to have finished the game, what's the point ? I want to experiment, not artificially limit myself because a good said so.
>NG+
Don't you lose said bell bearings in NG+ since the progress is reset ?
>a gook
sorry
Do you really lose those bells? Thank god i didnt go into ng+ yet
False
>Don't you lose said bell bearings in NG+ since the progress is reset ?
You do lose them.
