The open world in ER is unironically worse because of all the space they gave you and all the dungeons and shit
>Too much stuff to do, burns out average adult who works for a living
>Too much stuff to avoid for 24/7 NEET gamers who play multiple playthroughs and now most of the game is just filler
>Letting you explore almost anywhere you can see on the map ruins the mystery and sense of scale of the world
The open world in ER is unironically worse because of all the space they gave you and all the dungeons and shit
The open world sucks because there's zero effort put into it while simultaneously the gooks force you to search every square inch of the barren soulless experience
>lists all the good things
>tries to make them should bad
>"but I'm a working adult"
Learn to organize your time, dipshit
i think most of us can agree the open world was the game's most pronounced failure
It's shit because after the first area every reward is either a rune arc or a stone sword key that you never use
I want more open world fromsoft games
take guidance from das2 multiplayer and it's good
how exactly do they force you?
Iktf. I've even felt like I've been no lifing it but I'm 60 hours in and haven't even made it to Morgott yet.
>Too much stuff to do, burns out average adult who works for a living
Flipping burgers isn't what an average adult does for a living.
Should have tried a little harder and you wouldn't be coping this much.
It's perfect, it's everything I ever wanted out of an open world game, a huge continent where everything is designed like actual levels where routes are defined rather than a sandbox, where you travel to the huge dungeons by crossing the land.
only a handful of retarded contrarians believe that. No one wants yet another fucking Dark Souls game. You already got like 5 of those so give it a fucking rest already and stop whining and shitting yourself because Fromsoft dared to finally try something different after making the same game over and over again for the last decade.
the open world is unironically too fucking big
there's not much to do other than go from POI to POI
I'm not really sure why it exists to begin with and why it's so fucking big
Worst thing about it is its traversal.
Would have been cool to unlock new mounts other than that shitty horse
It's Immersion. Like Demon's Souls takes place throughout the kingdom of boleteria but you just warp straight to each corner of the kingdom, here the whole kingdom is there on top of the archestones and you travel to them and the world gives them context.
>quests break randomly based on progression
>npcs scattered in the most random asscracks of the world
>basic bitch spells hidden on random fluff enemies for no reason
>functionally zero weapon and armor drops without doing shitty dungeons, which are also hidden
what else?
>it's too le big!!!
Ever heard of taking your time with a game and not completing it in one sitting you autists
fair, the open world does look really pretty and really put you into the world
a shame how a lot of the rest of the game takes it out of it
Sure let’s compare it to botw now where I’ve run into the exact same puzzle room 15 times, fought the same bokoblins but now it’s black just because, how about running across that large grassy plain only to find more bokoblin but this time there’s 5 of them
Let’s compare it to Skyrim too for fun. Skyrim has the same amount of random shit hidden at every turn, tons of caves to explore with the potential of a special weapon that will stand out permanently as it won’t break after 25 strikes. I crossed that grassy plain to find a giant in the middle of it instead of a bunch of plant people who poop in the palm of my hand when I find them
>burns out working adult
dont play the game if you only have an hour to spend retard. leave playing it to free days
>burns out the average adult who works for a living
Speak for yourself you massive gay tranny. I work 9-5 and still had time to meet my gf and play elden ring after a work shift. Guess work hours must be long for you cos only sweat shop wagie shit holes will hire a troon freak.
the open world is what elevates it over the other games in the souls franchise
Still don't see how that is forcing you to explore every inch of the world. Quests aren't mandatory whatsoever and most people actually criticize the game that it doesn't give good enough rewards for exploring the various dungeons and caves.
I just got to the snowy mountains and I’m so fucking tired of the same copy paste ruins in this game
>if you don't explore every barren square inch of the open world you won't get any armor, and NPC interaction, any quests, any weapons or any spells
Seems mandatory to me, unless your argument is that the game is so shit you should speedrun it, which I kind of agree
>NOOOOO!!! I NEED TIME FOR WORK HOW THE FUCK DO I MAKE TIME FOR THIS!?!?!
Reminder: if you work longer than 8 hours per day you have forfeited your rights to partake in any other form of human entertainment including but not limited to
>vidya
>music
>movies
>social events
You were instead put on this earth for one single reason. To make as much money for mr sheckleburg as possible. And if you dont have a stressed induced heart attack or a broken back by the time you're 75 THEN you can enjoy lifes many benifits for the short amount of time you have left on this planet.
>Tried something different
>Same combat
>Same vague method of storytelling
>Same post-disaster setting where everyone is either dead or insane
Do Fromdrones unironically believe the nonsense they spew? Sekiro was different. Bloodborne was kinda different.
Eldung Shit is Open World Dark Souls 4.
I feel like my brain is broken because open world games always feel the most artificial to me because of the sheer level of copy pasting that always has to happen to make a world that big. It isn't immersive to me to see the same exact buildings for 100+ hours. I would much rather smaller maps where each area is entirely unique or more densely packed. I get way more immersed running around Yakuza's map and it's like 3 city blocks
>burns out average adult who works for a living
no one cares
They're use the same assets but the designs are all unique and fun.
They did a pretty swell job given it's their first open world game, but it's just not very good. Look at something like red dead 2's world compared to this. I just hate the world of elden ring. geographically implausible cliffs, sprawling areas which become worthless after a single visit, and a crafting system that doesn't need to be there.
i just don't see the value in it
Wat. They are fucking boring corridor simulators
they overstay their welcome by liurna
all I do is run in with the horse, ride down the stair, grab the item then ride out
terrible
>burns out the average adult who works for a living
Hmmmmm? No it didn't user-kun~! Unless....
Oh my!
A-user....you're not working a shitty McJob are you?....you do know those are for teenagers right? You did go to college or learn a skill or train that takes practise and study over something you're taught over the course of 3 days on location?....right?....you do make above minimum wage by working less hours and less stressful work while also having company medical care and pension packages?
Right user?
Am I right?
user....are you....a wagie? LMFAOOO OMG I THINK HE IS
i think he meant the catacombs
Not really. The ruins and dungeons in this are on par with chalices. Fucking Skyrim had more variation in dungeon designs than ER
>skyrim had more dungeon design th
Stopped reading right fucking there.
That's not true though. Most of the good armor you get from killing named bosses that give you champion gear you can buy at the roundtable hold. You don't have to explore every nook and cranny of the world to find those, you usually just have to follow where the grace sites point to. As for weapons, there isn't really much of a rhyme or reason as to where to find powerful ones. Some of the early standard weapons are best in slot whereis some of the super rare and hard to get unique weapons are pretty lackluster. Some of the super OP stuff like Rivers of Blood or Moonveil, you get by doing the most basic exploration where you check for churches and mines in new areas.
Imagine releasing open worlds worse than the worst areas in skyrim a decade later and pretending like it's a good game
WRONG. draugr caves were the worst and you should feel horrible for typing what you just typed.
the catacombs alone are better than draugr caves
>just do the bosses only
"unless your argument is that the game is so shit you should speedrun it, which I kind of agree"
Yeah atleast DS3 each zone had unique assets and architecture
>tfw have only used crafting system twice on 100 hours and was just to make rainbow stones to test drops
Draugr caves are unironically more fun and have more effort put into them than this game's side content
So does Elden Ring though.
because ____________
dude they're randomly generated, or if they're not they certainly felt like it. why would you say these things
my argument is that no one is forcing you to autistically explore every part of the open world if that's not your jam.
Ngl chalices were more interesting than half the catacombs
Ah yes
>draugr
>draugr
>draugr
>draugr
>bears
>big spiders
>draugr
>draugr
>WOAH BIG DRAUGR WITH DRAGON SHOUT!!!!
>claw puzzle
>claw puzzle but with different combination!!!
>draugr
Well played friend!
>because ____________
Rewards are better, gameplay is better, hell the traps are better. Everything about them are better than the side content in this game. Even the worst dwemmer cave is better than the best side content cave in this game
Blatantly false, even the catacombs all have unique gimmicks and themes and all have more thought put into them than anything from Skyrim.
>elden ring side content
>thought put into them
(You)
>better
oh that explains it, thanks
they really aren't. The worst thing you can say about ER caves and dungeons is that they are forgettable and copy-paste. But they are also very short and completely optional. Draugr dungeons were just as copy pasted and forgettable, but also much longer, hence way more tedious and annoying.
Sure the landscapes are different but they are all littered with the exact same copy paste ruins and fortresses. The ruins in Faron keep/swamp are more interesting.
Yeah it all does.
That's how every ecounter has been for me
>See big group of bad guys
>Horse right through it pick up items and leave
The game pushes for this type of gameplay for their half baked horse mechanic.
It's true though, Elden Ring literally has only 3 varieties of non-legacy dungeon
>catacomb
>cave
>crystal mine
with a shitty copypasted boss at the end of each one
Botw has areas with different races, cultures, weather effects, many different puzzle rooms that are always worth the completion since they always strengthen the player, an actual traversal system that rewards strategy and can be affected by the world as well as a physics system
ER has trash traversal, no unique race or culture to any area, it’s all “zombies or big monsters” majority of the dungeon rewards are worthless because you have no idea which one is gonna reward your build rather than be a worthless trinket unless you look it up which just ruins the point, majority of the areas look the same, repeated enemies out the ass
The legacy dungeons shit on BOTW legacy dungeons tho
>Too much stuff to do
i fucking wish
Yeah, because in skyrim you do an entire dungeon that's completely devoid of any item except on singular one at the end that has a chance to be something you will never use
oh wait that's not the case at all, retard
You're literally just spouting absolute nonsense
>rewards are better
>randomly generated loot with glitchy level scaling
Thank god I fought all those draugrs for a steel dagger that does 20 damage and has a 15 percent chance to inflict one point of poison DPS for 3 seconds when ever my health is below 3 percent
the only reason they're copypasted is because of the open world, which is what we're discussing here.
either way, if you'd rather play skyrim than elden ring there's nothing anyone can do to help you
...
I'll chose else ring over skryim when big tittie mods come to it
i've been using it for pots now but i'd rather just fucking buy them
>no unique race or culture to areas
Bro at least try to troll. It's the equivalent of me saying
>YOU DONT EVEN PLAY AS LINK IN BOTW
>Too much stuff to do, burns out average adult who works for a living
I am a pretty average adult with a full time job and a wife, I finished elden ring on april 1 with a total play time of 106 hours and a large majority of the content done. I also moved to a different state shortly after it came out.
Just because you're a shitter who is looking for a reason to quit and blame the game doesn't mean everyone is.
It wouldn't be so bad if it just wasn't
>Combat
>Combat
>Combat
>Die
>Die
>Die
Let me talk to some cool NPCs that don't speak in riddles or let me do some spy missions or something
ER side content is short and sweet. Tense, dangerous little caves and catacombs and you usually know beforehand what kind of reward you get, so if you don't need say upgrade mats for your summons, you don't need to bother with catacombs. If you don't need a certain rank of smithing stones, you don't need to bother doing mines in that area. It's as unintrusive and optional as side content could possibly be in an open world game.
Working adult boomer here with a kid and I have been taking my time with the game and loving it. I don't know what the mentality of needing to finish it as soon as possible is all about. I can play in short sessions and I'm always finding something new and worthwhile. Maybe try taking your time to enjoy it instead of turning it into a chore you think you have to do.
on this we can agree
>there's zero effort put into it
Into what? Not the environmental design. Game looks incredible everywhere.
I too enjoy using the starter gear and spells the entire game
>ER side content is short and sweet.
It's boring and derivative and lacks any kind of meaningful reward system, not to mention they almost solely rely on content from past games to past their corridors. There is no possible way you can ever defend them without being ignorant
>quests break randomly based on progression
This is by far the most forgiving fromsoft game, as far as quests getting cut off by progression goes. There's like 3 major cut off points (killing rykard, burning the tree, and the frenzy flame) and they're all near the end. Other than that almost everything works at any time.
>forgiving fromsoft game
I wasn't aware forgiving meant "devoid of meaningful content"
it's not about how it looks, but how it feels. there's no exploration suite. If there's one thing i'll say about the elder scrolls, jeremy REALLY made you feel like you were exploring
I know contrarianism is all you have but you should at least TRY and keep it clear you havn't even touched the game. Hell you probably havn't even touched skyrim.
>Too much stuff to do, burns out average adult who works for a living
god how i loathe this excuse, because there is always gonna be some dipshit with 10 kids and 4 jobs and 5mins to play ever other week who is gonna whine. its a race to the bottom.
then don't do it. It's optional. And if you really need something from a cave, be glad that it's a 5 minute effort, instead of a 30 minute slog to get through like it is in games like Skyrim.
(You)
Are you stupid?
Open world is one of the games biggest strengths, if not the biggest strength. It is executed close to perfection, and it will change the open world genre. Watch future titles try to copy paste the same shit over and over again until From comes up with something new.
>mfw i had 16 extra Stonesword Keys
>nothing left to use them for
>I'm always finding something new
Liar. The recycled content becomes obvious as early as Altus Plateau.
>don't do the open world, it's bad fluff content
Okay why did they include it if it's so bad
