2016 made it a bigger deal. It shoves the story down your throat because it has unskippable cutscenes. In eternal you literally don't have to care. It's only a bigger deal to you if you care about the story, for everybody else it's a massive step up from the previous

story isn't very important and it certainly wasn't anything I expected to care about, but I was so pleasantly surprised by 2016s story that I did in fact end up enjoying it. I can actually say that the environmental storytelling in 2016 is something that makes that game more enjoyable for me, it makes the levels and progress you make feel more meaningful.
