it works, you just have to be more aggressive and risk getting hit a few times. The poise damage you deal with guard counter is really good so you'll deal lots of damage with constant ripostes and a charged heavy right after that

No swords except for GS and UGS would do any meaningful damage to someone in full plate and in that case it'd only work because they basically act like bludgeoning weapons. Maces are effective against plate.

She gets back about 50 health a swing if you block it. I do more than 500 damage a swing. It's really negligible.

If Malenia was in Sekiro her posture would've broke right there and then.

A bosses posture break bark doesn't go up unless you deflect their attacks. Blocking just raises your bar.

I'm pretty sure someone already beat her without taking any damage at RL1 within the first week of release. So whether the boss is beatable wasn't the question. The game gives you all the tool you need to beat her. The question was whether or not her moveset design was designed in as fair a manner as she could have been, the answer to which is a big no.
