I wish that Kingdom Hearts would just leave. The first game kind of worked, because it didn't take itself seriously. I think having the specific Disney charm worked well in that game.
Nowadays its a product that Disney ought to buy if it means Square-Enix can focus on other projects. Such as splitting Square and Enix up into two separate corporate entities. Another plus for this is that Tetsuya Nomura can go work for disney if he wants.

user Shantotto can cast base-level spells that hit harder than -Ja level spells.
If she ever opted to cast anything above a basic Flare she'd probably be able to wipe out a city block without a sweat.
XI's WoL literally became God, and Shantotto is still considered above him.

Since the story is melodramatic shit, the only way to really get through it is to make it fun and funny. Having all these tall people constantly looking down at my 3 foot character and praising her for being "the strongest in the world" is hilarious.

There's other advantages. I tried playing a Elezen. But doing anything, running, walking or attacking, it constantly feels like you're stuck in molasses. Since all the models have to be uniform in speed. But when you play a lalafell, the opposite happens. Everything seems to go faster. You take three steps for every one of other characters. This, plus the lower camera angle makes it seem like you (and the rest of the game) move a lot faster. And it's especially fun as a DRG.

On top of everything else, being a Lalafell and going into a dungeon/raid, people have preconceived expectations that you will suck. Or just hate you for no good reason. But this also means you can exceed their expectations by just being mildly competent. Even on many first runs of a dungeon, I will get 75% of the coms. Simply by being nice and doing my job correctly.

Beyond all this, it's also the only race that's close to being cute or unique. Even if it's just anime hobbits, it's still more unique than human, human with cat ears, human with wings, stretched out human and so on. I guess you could also say Roegadyn are unique. But they lack the cute factor.
