FFVIII is my first and my favorite
FFV comes close though

if I had to pick a non main line ff game it would be final fantasy legends 2

I started with VIII but liked VII more. I have a bad habit of not finishing games, getting to the almost the end and then dropping it.

I played VI and before getting to Kafka, dropped it.
I played VIII and just before fighting the last boss, I dropped it.
I played 5 and in the last part, after having paladin MC, I dropped it too

I only finished VII and Tactics.

FF1 on NES
FFTA. I don't even know why. It's piss easy and about as deep as a shot glass. But for some reason there's something about it that I just adore.

FF1, but that was mostly just rented until my cousin got a copy way later on. The first I put significant time into and beat was FFIV. My favorite is FFVI, but I am quite fond of FFVII as well.

I did that with 6, but only cause I didn't level up all my party members

Unspeakably based Butz!
FFV is my favorite and I love to replay it every now and again with different job restrictions, made easier with the pixel remaster

I hated every other FF, except maybe 1.

it was the first to find the formula, had great characters and wasnt like anything else available at the time

Literal shit taste.

First was 1
Favorite is 5
Enjoying 14 currently
15 can eat a dick

I played the PS1 remake of ff1 / ff2, ff origins
and then ff10 was my next
Favorites were the FFT and FFTA
but for mainline I liked ff6 with 10 being the runner up
I never played 8 and 9 but I might if people say some positive things about them

FF6

First was either 1 or 13.
First I finished and the only one of I've finished and favorite is 14.

12

2(4)
Tactics. Was 3(6), but it hasn’t aged all that well.

>Was 3(6), but it hasn’t aged all that well.
Disagree, I feel that end of life 2D holds up much better than start of life 3D.

Dissidia or Tactics

FFX
FFTA

FFVIII
FFXV I guess since I actually finished it

IV was my first, but IX is my favorite. Though on some days it's VI.

My first was V then jumped to III, VII and VIII
My favorite has to be III
Wanted to give ffiv a try but not sure which version to go with, I was leaning with pixel remake because of the ost but apparently it’s piss easy

First: ff1
Favorite: 13, 13-2, Lightning Returns
Come at me faggots, i played all except for ff9

Do the SNES or GBA one

13 and 13-2 are pretty good games though, LR sucks.

FF7 or FF1 when I was 14/15
FF4, cecil is a great protag and the party is full of memorable characters except the ninja

You’re right of course. With a better translation and a few difficultly tweaks to give the game some semblance of challenge 6 would probably be my favorite again.

>First
First ever? Probably 1 on the PSP but it was on my cousin's PSP and I never beat it. Actually looking back at it now I don't think I ever beat 1 at all. Gotta do that at some point.
First to completion would be FF4 I think. But I ended up hating it by the end.
>Favourite
5 or 6.

FEET

First one I played was 13. Next played 7. Then the red one with the guy with the cards, then jumped to 15. 15 is my favorite followed by 13. I like 7 for a lot of things but I just don't get much replay value out of it.

I blitzed through the first 10 chapters of 13 and now after a week I'm finally at chapter 11. Yet I can't help but feel like every minute I spent playing that game was better spent on literally anything else.

I played 8 on a PSX , dont remember who had it but I didnt even finish disc 1 , later I played it either emulated or the PC version i dont remember

I played 7 first at a cousins house but FFT was the first one I ever owned when I got with my PSOne for christmas. it is also my favourite. I made a bunch of squires named after my cousins and we played it multiplayer style my first playthrough and it was one of my best memories

X
The PS2 is retro btw

FF1, though FF4(2) is the first one I actually finished. I played FF1 on NES but was too young to have the patience to finish it. FF6 is my favorite.

FF7
FF9
If we count Vagrant Story as a Final Fantasy game then that would be my favorite though.

FF13
FF5
For spinoffs:
FF Explorers
And my favorites are unironically SoP or DFFNT

>first

dissidia 012 for gameplay, tactics for plot

are you all high its never implied he was anything more than friends with any of em.
Meanwhile Tifa and Rinoa made it quite abundantly clear something was going on

actually I think 12 is also a strong contender for plot, anything written by matsuno is gold

FFT was my first
FFX is my favorite

FF1 was first
FF12 is favorite

>First
Technically I played FFX first on a demo disc I got in the mail, but FFVII was the first one I fully played. A friend of mine bought it on PSN like 13 years ago and game shared it with me. I really didn't give a shit about JRPGs before then.

>Favorite
FF12 is the best looking game ever to me from a artistic standpoint. So I'm going to go with that.

I know it's going to sound like bait, but I genuinely don't understand the appeal of Final Fantasy, am I just not a part of this series' demographic? My first FF was X around 10 years ago; I remember liking it, but the characters weren't that interesting to me, at the time, and so I dropped it.
Then I played the 7 remake last year for about 10 hours, and I just don't understand, I really liked Cloud and Aerith but outrigh hated the rest of the cast, also, the setting wasn't really that appealing, which I blame on the discrepancy between the art direction and the textures used in the environments, since it made this game either look beautiful or outright god awful, depending on the location

>tl;dr: I want to like this series, how do I do it?

Attached: 1647278509691.jpg (1080x564, 166.04K)

FF7 first, FF9 favorite
I love all of the games I played as a kid (7, 8, 9, Tactics, 5 on the Anthology port) except for 10 and 10-2 though

Play FFVI. FFX and onward don't even feel like Final Fantasy games.

4

Tactics

>Rinoa made it quite abundantly clear something was going on
"something" is a bit of an understatement when it comes to FF8; its main plot is explicitly a love story. TWO love stories actually, 3 if you count Seifer and his "romantic dream"

I would try some of the older ones, especually IV, V or VI. IX is also s good starting point, but it's also a celebration game so you'll miss out on a lot of references without playing the older ones first.
Final Fantasy post-IX was largely a mistake, with a few highlights (notably XII, Theatrhythm, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, and XI and XIV if you're into MMOs).

yes just like zidane and Tidus. I know all about the explicit love stories. Something Butz didnt have

I only count Seifer's romantic dream.

Where can you even play FF5? Its the only one of the mains series I haven't played. Do I have to emulate it?

FF8 to both.
I regret nothing and I won't apologize.

One of those early final fantasy with garnet

FFIV
FFXI

The Pixel Remaster came out on Steam fairly recently, that's probably the easiest way besides emulation.

>13 and 13-2 are pretty good games though, LR sucks.
Literally the opposite of the truth, LR is the only actually fun game of the three.

I played the gba version when it came out
gba is pretty easy to emulate and you can put it on other things like a psp if you got one
idk version differences so some user might have a better post

FF IV
FFT in fact the Tactics games are the only ones that aren't garbage

Play either PR or GBA, both are good

LR is the most free form mainline entry in FF.

I've played most of them. Skipped 7 out of spite because a black weeb friend of mine was constantly shilling it.

when I was a kid a classmate was really into final fantasy 7 and tried to show the rest of us the game was but I was a literal nin10yearold so I made fun of him for playing movie games even though I thought it was cool. sorry justin.

kek, type-0 is my favorite because of the great pantyshots.

Just friends, which is why in the canonical sequel (which to the form of an OVA) all the girls went on to have children with other men.
Imagine being a harem protag and all your girls get impregnated by other dudes.
Butz is truly the biggest cuck in the franchise.

I actually only decided to give LR a chance in the first place when some user is a SaGa thread on /vr/ meantion that it has some SaGa-like elements to it. I can see what they meant and I was pleasantly surprised. The final boss of LR is literally a rip-off (Saruin of Romancing SaGa: Misntrel Song) too, at least in visual design
