Sonic Adventure 2 Battle

Still the best 3d Sonic game. Why the fuck can't they top this?

because your not 10 anymore, it's a fucking terrible glitchy game

The Knuckles stages made me want to kys

Yet it's still a better experience than anything else they shit out despite having all the glitches and jank

SA1 better

who cares?

Because while it’s frustrating trash, it actually feels like a real game compared to the mediocre 2.5D boost games. And the dark age full 3d games that came after were WAY TOO bad.

Absolutely bullshit. I played the Steam version of SA2B and literally the only notable glitches I got were getting stuck under the barrier you have to roll under before the truck in City Escape as well as Sonic not connecting with rails in Final Rush while swapping sometimes. In comparison SADX is so fucking bad I accidentally spin dash'd into a wall in the train station and fell off the fucking map.

I really want to like SA2 but i just can't, i've played through it twice.
How do i like it?

Eh, once you realise how much the monitors slow you down they become fun.

Well what are your issues with it.

Not that guy but if the gameplay was just Sonic and Shadow I'd call it a playable game.
But most of SA2 is spent on those long and boring mech + emerald hunting levels, makes it trash game overall and the bonkers entertaining plot doesn't make up for it.

Can't stand the tails/eggman levels with the awful BEEPS and heavier gameplay than Gamma with cheap enemy placement.
Emerald hunting is a gamble whether or not i'll have fun.
Sonic and chadows levels are more linear and feel more scripted.
Chao's take too long

I prefer SA1 but I don't trust anyone that dislikes SA2. I get the hate for mech levels but the emerald hunting stages, excluding Mad Space, are great.

>Can't stand the tails/eggman levels with the awful BEEPS and heavier gameplay than Gamma with cheap enemy placement.
Can't do much about the beeps but outside of cosmic wall obliterating every event before they can shoot and getting a combo is very easy and satisfying.
>Emerald hunting is a gamble whether or not i'll have fun.
It's a very acquired taste kind of deal there but if you avoid the monitors and hunt on your own it becomes a lot more fun and goes by in a flash too.
>Sonic and chadows levels are more linear and feel more scripted.
The fun of speed stages is often keeping the momentum going even if you have to take shortcuts.
>Chao's take too long
Animal glitch.

Uh, humans?

You just know

Nah, the mech levels are fine (Cosmic Wall is one of the best levels in the game) and emerald hunting is very fun apart from Mad Space.

Shadow Chads, we can't stop winning...

>i have autism and/or shit taste
Look, I'm glad you enjoyed them but as someone who can overlook bad parts of games I have to say I did not find them fun at all (Pumpkin Hill has a nice aesthetic and cool music though).

>Battle
Fuck off nintentoddler.

It’s nintod dler

Nintöddler
Söyboys

I just beat that one level in Shadow the Hedgehog where you have to kill all the Artificial Chaos.
Did people really struggle with it? It seemed really easy to find them all since the whole stage is broken into chunks. Just investigate each one fully before moving onto the next.

battle was a straight upgrade over the original

t. had both

In what way? I thought the stages were way worse and less memorable though each character getting their version of the stage was cool.

some of the areas looked the same and the fixed camera confused me. but i did!

Eggman levels are genuinely good, but Tails got a garbage heap.

no no you don't understand, SA2B is irredeemable shit because one of the cutscenes has a bug in it

Sa2 isn’t as bad as I remember but the first sonic adventure is still superior.

well how can you tell one chunk apart from the rest when you are 20 minutes in on your first run? a level like that needs more unique landmarks like the one rail section that combines with others over the void of space.
honestly the only reason I got fucked so hard is because they put one in the god damn corner on a rail and it hides in the fucking draw distance. People wouldnt bitch and moan nearly as hard if there were 5 extra chaos that you are allowed to miss.

It's mostly that one section where you have to turn to the door you left on one of the first turret sections.

Me on the left

Yeah, it's the best 3D Sonic game. Assuming you're ignoring Adventure 1, Heroes, Unleashed, Colors and Generations.

hereoes and unleashed suck ass

It's very samey and easy to get lost. I also haven't played it in over a decade, but I don't really want to replay Shadow anytime soon.

I'd still rather play them than any non-Sonic or Shadow stage in SA2.
Assuming I'm only playing through Heroes once, anyway. If we're talking four times in a row, I'd rather suffer through SA2.

SA2 doesn't really hold up that great anymore. The sonic and shadow stages are still pretty fun and i don't even mind the emerald hunting but most of the game is really jank. Still better than boost shit.

Still, why hasn't sonic team ever tried to make a 3d sonic game that was all about mastery of the physics like classic sonic was? Sonic utopia was the closest I felt anyone ever got.

Because Sonic Team is ran by a literal retard and deadlines for product quotas are more important than shipping a quality product.
Sonic will never be good again because they know they don't have to try.
Mania was a once in a lifetime moonshot and it won't happen again, especially not for 3D sonic.

because they refuse to put a Chao Garden in a new game, obviously.

>The timed mission in Crazy Gadget

This. Just bring back the fucking Chao gardens already, dumb ass gooks.

It's not as hard as it seems especially when you realise you can skip most of the colored block section.

I'm still shocked they never did another Chao Garden after SA2 and Advance.
I feel like even a shitty mobile game or a proper VPet would be easy money for Sega.

it's my opinion that the Chao Garden represents a 'hook' that encourages people to replay levels, but since it is a hook that requires a lot of repetition, people will gravitate towards the levels they like more, naturally leaving them to form stronger memories of their favorite parts of the game, increasing the quality of the game in their mind.

who cares if there are bad levels if you just don't play them anywhere near as much as the levels you like, at least that's how it works in our brains, strangely Sonic Team DID give us another hook to encourage level replays in a more recent game.

Sonic Forces. The difference there is that you're not really replaying the stages you like, you're replaying the ones you can tolerate.

The story is better, the characters are better, the music is better, the graphics are better, the controls are better, the stories are all separate instead of mixed together which is just down to personal preference I guess, it has a hub world. The only thing sa2 does better is the upgraded chao garden.

>mfw the game that has been my rock for 20+ years is finally getting adapted into a movie
MY AUTISM HAS BEEN VINDICATED

This. I just can't say it enough. I don't even bother touching Rouge's levels anymore, even when I regret touching the game again thinking "it wouldn't be that bad" when playing Knuckles stages again.
>3D Sonic was never good
That's all you needed to say. 50/100 is still an F, even if the rest of the class got 10s.

>I'm still shocked they never did another Chao Garden after SA2 and Advance
Oh, they did user but you won't like it.

>how can you tell one chunk apart from the rest
By the gun platforms. I explored every room I could find before riding them to the next set of rooms.
But I do agree that it all looked too samey. That series of corridors that kept branching in two held me up for a couple minutes.

Journey of Dreams, ugh

Do you honestly think these quippy Hollywood big wigs are going to commit to a story that takes itself extremely seriously involving government large scale cover-ups, the deaths of an entire space colony, and a little girl being shot to death when their current sacred cow (Marvel) runs on principles like this?

What? Do you mean Chronicles? I wouldn't call that a garden.

>the story is better
in what way
>the graphics are better
now you're just being a contrarian

Based and correct

>The story is better
I like the story of SA1 a lot, especially Amy and Gamma's stories, but between the two SA2 has a more consistent narrative throughline and better character exploration with extremely well down themes and utilization of the video game medium to tie everything back to the central story and its themes. SA2 is objectively the better story.
>the graphics are better, the controls are better,
The graphics are a massive step up in SA2, there are tons of excellent touches in the character animations that really fulfill the animation fundamental of "creating the illusion of life" the graphics and animations in SA1 are extremely stiff by comparison. The controls in SA1 do feel phenominal, but the controls in SA2 are of equal quality, like mission structure this is down to personal preference.
Just an FYI, SA1 is my all time favorite Sonic game. What I would argue it actually does do better than SA2 is level design. The levels in SA1 are far more expansive, and offer more room for experimentation, and are a blast to try do over and over again even without a ranking system. SA1 is without question a great game, hence why it's my favorite, but SA2 is the overall better of the two games by a significant margin, and distinguishes itself as a standing monument of what video games are capable of as a medium. It's the "citizen Kane" of the series, which is great, whereas SA1 is the "Ghost Busters" of the series. Both are masterpieces in their own right, but one is clearly the more distingished of the two. But Paradoxically, Ghost Busters is a much more fun movie to watch than Citizen Kane, even though it technically isn't better than it.

The best 3d sonic game is sonic's story from adventure 1, unfortunately it is kinda short and the entire game is hampered down by 3 shit stories, and 2 okay ones

sonic adventure 2 is just overall a more consistent experience, but has worse physiques and stupid delay before you can charge your spin dash (thanks for mods removing this), and less open level design

point about less open level design is really interesting
nintendo never lost sight of this between mario 64 and mario sunshine but sega were just like fuck it 3d sonic should just be narrow corridors and it was a design choice the series never recovered from

That's a pretty low bar
Most of the 3D games are very fucking broken and unpolished, where at one point going forward they gave up made the boost mechanic because they couldn't figure out how to make sonic feel fast and not feel hard to control so it turned moreso into a borderline runner game instead of a fast paced 3D platformer, Sonic Team just sucks ass and coasts off of being one of the few child-friendly IPs that are multiplatform.

>Most of the 3D games are very fucking broken and unpolished
No more broken or unpolished than 3D Mario at the time, yet those are remembered as beloved classics.

SA2 may be a marked improvement over SA1 but it feels almost too constrained by it's own narrative. Everyone is so busy following eachother you just end up in the same three environemnts for most of the game. Knuckles is actually the one guy who "feels" likje SA1 because not only does he get a unique canyon area (seperate from the more generic pyramid area) he also visits a 2spooky area and a cave and only joins up with Sonic and the crew at about the halfway mark. Also Meteor Herd is my jam and get out of my face if you hate it.

And yes I know the Isalnd has a jungle on it but that's like one level out of a entire game where you spend like half of it in fucking mechanical spaceship pyramid hallway land.

>Also Meteor Herd is my jam and get out of my face if you hate it
based, Meteor Herd might be my favorite level in the game

Why do people not like this one?

Attached: heroes.jpg (574x819, 121.62K)

reminder that the director worked on the Shadow the Hedgehog game

Because you only play Mario and the level design is so boring it can't go wrong.
No one shit on Sonic for the Sonic parts, they shit on it for everything else.

I wish all the faggots defending this trash game would at least post webms of them actually being skilled at playing the worst content in the game objectively:
>Rouge's shitty levels
>The Mechlevels that isn't fucking Weapon's Bed (the literal hold X to win level)
>Final Chase
>Every fucking Kart level, expeically Rouges
Like how the classicfags and boostfags prove themselves they can beat their games without even trying to look at the screen? I want that with Adventure games.

And no, just those 2 webms of SA1 don't fucking count. Put up or shut up, claiming x isn't shit without proof isn't convincing anyway. Prove how autistically good are you at SA2.

Attached: 1544300010219.png (771x723, 679.71K)

The controls, mostly. Also because it had a lighter tone, and that makes Modern fans seethe for some reason

I'm not autistically good but I like all those stages
They're fun

Attached: 1534977073962.gif (500x400, 839.93K)

Funny enough I'm now so skilled at Sonic 2006 that I actually prefer it over SA2 now. I obviously don't do the city missions though, those are so bad they make to undermine any positives.

>tfw i laughed more at kirby floating away off screen more than i did at adeleine literally getting btfo

It's not a fucking struggle, it takes fucking ~45 minutes to beat the fuckign stage

if you didn't even like the game befoer that point, it's the breaking point of that game.

No Sonic anything should take more than classic Sonic level length to beat. They were short for a reason, it's fun to replay. That's why the Adventure levels were short, to be replayed. It's why Heroes and Unleashed's Eggman land suck shit at the end.

because Sonic Team's motivation while making it was to give a killer app to Dreamcast so it'd have a chance against PS2

The only Mario game that was like that was 64, the rest might have some jank here or there but generally speaking they do most things at an alright level and are well-made. I do agree that they're a tad bit overrated because they play it very safe to the point it can feel sort of corporate but they're one of the few types of games Nintendo tries to make sure looks and plays well relative to how weak they make their more modern consoles

Based and I couldn't agree more.
