DayZ 2012 mod...home
always wanted to play it back then, but my pc was too shitty and my friends just played cod on their consoles
I had one of the best time of my life with that mod.
Than DayZ Standalone came out, and everything ended...........
was good for about a month until the hackers ruined it. i remember some pretty epic battles over a bus that someone had parked in the middle of the woods with a bunch of ammo and beans inside
The first few months when there was no meta and nobody knew what they were doing was the greatest experience in vidya history
its crazy how nothing has been able to replicate how organic it felt
"panda"
I miss DayZ and modded Arma sometimes. no game quite like it
What did the mod do so well that the standalone failed to live up to?
I have events from the dayz mod burned into my memory like no other game.
The standalone is actually really good these days and can be modded as easily as ARMA, just saying.
when this game got super popular was when i think i started feeling really disconnected from games in general. i thought it looked dogshit and had no interest in it
I miss /dayzg/, best general by far.
t. Ugandan Warlord
Because it was made by a group of guys who loved playing the game and the modding community wasn't infested with trannies at this time
Sad how dayz standalone ruined the genre forever, all they had to do was copy the current gen mods and instead they decided to make a shit version of the original
>t. tranny
It had soul. It was simple, for all its flaws, it was still great.
Standalone made it a hassle to play, you couldn't just press R to reload anymore, now you have to put the magazine in your hands, put bullets in it, swap to gun in hand, put the magazine in.
Now there are 1000 different diseases and what not you need to keep track of.
>Standalone made it a hassle to play, you couldn't just press R to reload anymore, now you have to put the magazine in your hands, put bullets in it, swap to gun in hand, put the magazine in.
this is not currently true, you can just press the reload key to reload if you have an appropriate magazine. You can also 'reload' while holding a magazine to automatically fill it with bullets from your inventory.
So it seems somewhat improved, yet when standalone came out it was complete shit for years and years. So much stupid shit in the game that no one asked for.
They took everything that made the mod good and just threw it out. Now everything has durability, killed someone? Unlucky everything on him is now ruined.
Huge map that no one knew, was easy to get lost in.
High tier loot areas that funneled players to a limited number of locations on the map; airfields, grocery stores, hospitals. Specialized buildings that guaranteed players would NEED to visit a grocery store for food loot, or a hospital to search for blood bags/morphine/painkillers. A very basic and predictable loot spawn/loot location helped immensely to move players around the map. Players knew where shit was, they learned slowly where to go. This amplified the number of PVP encounters, because solo players and squads were going to these limited number of locations, because of the specialized loot spawns.
When standalone released, nearly all of this was changed for the worse. The map was now known to most players, even if it had changed slightly. You knew how to get to every town still. However, they completely fucked the loot spawning. Now there were no specialized loot spawns. Instead they added a bajillion gazillion fucking new buildings, thinking somehow this would translate to a better experience. It didn't. Grocery stores were no longer needed to get food. Hospitals, while still spawning meds, were also less needed, as they also increased the locations meds could spawn. The number of high tier military loot spawn locations were increased, spreading players out further.
Basically, if you boil it down, I think what made standalone a worse experience was a reduced number of PVP encounters, and reduced player encounters overall. If you add a million fucking new buildings and locations and take away loot specialized buildings, that spreads players out ALL OVER the map. Instead of bee lining to specialized loot areas, now they're spending hours loot every god damn building. Instead of 20 minutes to get to Stary Sobor and either fight or have an interaction with another player, they're taking 2 hours looting
It was fun in the early days before everyone memorized the map and just camped the airfield all day with their friends.
DayZ standalone is slowly getting better. lots of good updates last year and this year could make it better
>Now everything has durability, killed someone? Unlucky everything on him is now ruined.
It only ruins where you hit, just like the mod intended. You can headshot someone and get everything except their hat in the same condition they had it. I frequently bodyshot people and most of the gear inside their clothing is fine or only lightly damaged at worst.
I get that you're mad at the devs for how they handled standalone way back when because it was bullshit, but at least don't just make up shit about it's current state to continue fueling your anger.
>Spawn
>Get basic loot
>Start a 2 hour run to the airfield
>die trying or get loot
>Have nothing to do so camp airfield or run back to the coast to kill fresh spawns
Got old fast. Something like Origins had more to do. Or exile but being able to buy DMRs and armored cars after 30 minutes of grinding made it too easy
>2012
>"hey user, get on the server"
>skype ringtone
>spawn in
>"friendly in cherno"
>immediately sniped by ghillie camper with AS50
>meet up with squad, nobody has a map and nobody has played this game before so we're orienteering using compasses and nearby landmarks
>finally meet up and head north
>find CZ sniper rifle, stunned at our luck, it's the closest thing to military gear we have found in our 50 hours of game time
>there are only 5 rounds and we have to share it amongst the four of us
>kidnap a bambi and leave him stranded in the middle of the forest
>meanwhile some retard screaming in side chat gets banned
>some dude in side chat boasting about his car
>see him driving laps around NWAF
>miss all 5 sniper shots
>charge in with axes and deflate two of the tires
>he runs us over, laughing like a maniac in direct comms
>watch him drive over a pothole and explode due to retarded physics system
>bleed out on the runway
take me back
Also the shooting mechanics in DayZ Standalone were dogshit. Arma 2 wasn't perfect but it had some pretty realistic and satisfying gun mechanics.
>current state
Honestly it's quite irrelevant what it is in 2022, when it was released in 2014.
Mod was and will always be better.
>Open a door
>Hit your kneecap on it
>Crawl 2 hours for morphine for your broken leg
What is it about mod authors that want to turn their famous mods into standalone games and fuck up hard? so many Doom WADs did just that
>hey guys im going to make the official game with the official team!
>hey guys actually im climbing mount everest when our game is at the peak of interest
>game goes to shit and becomes abandonware in any normal persons mind
It truly was one of the greatest game experiences I've ever had.
Easily had 2000+ hours logged by the end of it, across DayZ vanilla mod, DayZero, Namalsk, and all the other maps and mods that came out.
>when it was released in 2014
It was early access in 2014, and they never hid that.
>Mod was and will always be better.
It really isn't any more. The current standalone blows the mod out of the water on every count. Continue being mad about something that happened almost a decade ago if you want, and I wouldn't blame anyone who said they won't support the devs after what happened back then, but you're wasting your time convincing yourself that nothing has changed since then.
>playing DayZ instead of milsim Arma 2
>blurry textures because of not owning Arma 2 PMC
I can guarantee the zoomie who took that screenshot went on to play some battle royale later
where the fuck did the paid shills come from?
standalone is literally complete shit, and will never be better then even the base alpha mod
the worse thing about the DayZ standalone was that it was basically the same thing as the mod. Its just another mod of the ARMA engine.
>Crawl 2 hours for morphine for your broken leg
>At night, those pitch black nights
>You and all your friends die in the process
I miss it so much it's unreal.
It's hands down the best time I've ever had playing a game. At the peak I was playing it 19-20 hours a day and basically mainlining monster.
Our little group was the first to get a chopper up and running on our EU server. We buzzed Electro and let off the guns and the global chat went nuts.
A couple of days later some other group got themselves a chopper and found our hideout way out in the middle of nowhere and came flying over at night to try and fuck us. We lit them up with everything we had and they crashed into the woods and lost everything. Damn it was so much fun. Hanging out at the milli base waiting for bandit groups... Being so proud of my sopmod m4 with supressor... Stalking through towns at night with ghillies and NV.
And then hackers started popping up every day and everyone basically stopped playing within a week.
I've checked in to the state of the standalone recently and they've got a lot of really cool features going on some of the mods but there's just so much fucking loot. I like the base building and stuff but when you go into someone elses base and there's 30 fucking fully kitted assault rifles, anti material rifles, explosives, thousands of round of ammunition... What's the point? The beauty of that first few weeks on the mod was that high quality loot was rare and highly prized. If you found a good m4 suppressed it was amazing. You didn't have buckets of ammunition. Vehicles were rare and if you had a couple of technicals you were kings.
Now it seems like everyone is rolling round in monster trucks kitted up to the eyeballs and dying means nothing because you've got 50 more of each item in your base.
Was he innocent, Yea Forums?
>hey guys I'm leaving DayZ in a shitty buggy unfinished state to open my own studio!
>hey guys I'm a flaming homosexual!
>standalone is literally complete shit, and will never be better then even the base alpha mod
can you actually explain why in a way that encompasses the standalone's current state, or are you just mad for fun?
>trys to rebuttal like hes in some youtube debate
how about you name 1 thing better about standalone? we'd be waiting a very long time for literally anything that is better then any of the last gen epoch /overpoch mods
user, DayZ fanboys are a special breed. They accept no logical criticism of their game, and will viciously defend it to preserve their delusion that its a good game.
sure, the graphics are far improved. That was easy.
it's pretty clear he wasn't
thats literally the worst thing you could have named, goes to show that standalone has not improved the gameplay at all, infact its a downgrade in every single aspect.
standalone will never be better then base alpha, dilate
because you're a basedlennial that values graphics and cinematic experiences over raw gameplay.
Worst thing about the standalone is the loot and vehicle rarity/distribution. No other game in any genre has come close to the intensity of finding the one car on the server, trying to hide/defend it from other players while you carry wheels back one-at-a-time from the nearest industrial area 2km away.
In the standalone every town has industrial, military and civilian buildings, sprawling tower blocks full of loot and there is no challenge. You can fully gear up in one town and then what's the point in playing any longer?
Innocent of what?
If it's about him faking his scenarios he openly admitted that he runs his own server with his friends and they stage cinematic scenarios
I got fucking robbed at gunpoint by a bunch of BRs in this, they had one of their friends lure me to a bridge by acting like a new player and while we were crossing the BRs suddenly appeared on both ends. Then they stripped me and took me to their camp. They then proceeded to t-bag me until I was more cum than man. Then night came and I made a run for it into a nearby forest while the BRs shot and screamed obscenities at me I couldn't understand. Hiding in a forest while a bunch of BRs hunt for your soft white ass is still one of the weirdest things to happen to me ever.
>play with group of friends for a week
>finally have enough parts to make a helicopter
>take flight
>helicopters are bugged and instantly leak fuel
ive never been so mad at a bug before
You miss the design phase of standalone where you would literally starve if you didn't scavenge in the wild and found like 10 weapons but no ammo
Before he got big on YouTube he would record on public servers with hacks. This was long before he started the whole staged movie-in-a-game concept.
do standalone trannies really? the fucking graphics is what keeps you playing?
The mod was perfect. The risk/reward always felt so good and the tension of running into other players when you were kitted out was unreal. No game since has given me that same adrenaline rush as simply seeing another player in DayZ. The battles in the wilderness were fun as fuck too and every shot fired risked another group coming to finish off the victors. God I miss it, it was like an MMO with the gear spawns and the world PvP was unmatched.
it was a new genre and people didnt know the meta yet. everybody knows now its better to kill people on sight. back then being friendly was the default
>They accept no logical criticism of their game
So criticize the current game. Nobody is doing that. They're just repeating the same argument since SA launched, which is that the devs shit on their customers by handling it so atrociously (which I agree with). But what's the point in continuing to engage with something if you're going to be mad about what happened in 2014?
You said anything, I picked something. I could instead say that the SA has better maps, better and easier modding, more items, better gunplay, more zombies with better AI, and so on.
I legitimately do not see how anyone who has played SA in the last few years could refute any of this.
I literally could not care less if you don't want to buy the game, the mod still exists afaik. But you're living in 2014.
no mutt im living in 2022, and anyone that hasn't chopped off their dick has moved on past standalone too. it will never be good, do try and convince people endlessly that the game you're not playing is great though
Exactly, it seems like they missed the point of the original mod entirely. They started bringing out mods for the original mod too, after I stopped playing and when I checked on those they were the same. They were basically the same except they put in fuckloads of guns and high tier loot spawns so that everyone could get kitted out in a fraction of the time... Totally ruined it and turned the game into pure PVP.
In the original mod the zeds were fucking deadly, weapons and ammo were scarce... It really felt like you were surviving with your buddies, totally cut off, having to methodically gather supplies and weapons. Going to get car parts was like a whole mission in and of itself... Getting kitted up from our tents, getting the car loaded up with spares, heading out under cover of darkness to avoid attention, getting lit up from some treeline on the way there, having a sniper overwatch team set up covering the industrial plant while the runners went in to gather up parts... The whole thing would be a few hours of peak, tense fun and if you all made it back in one peace it was a big rush. Or we would spend hours camped out over Stary, waiting for some other group to loot it and load up a couple of vehicles over and over and then we'd drop them and run in and take everything. I've never had so much fucking fun as being literally lying in a bush with a range finder calling out enemies to the team. Or having to venture into one of the bigger towns to gather medical supplies and getting swarmed by zeds and then getting shot at and barely making it out alive... FUCK it was good.
>the game is great because I'll just blatantly lie about things that are objectively better in the mod
>the game you're not playing
But I am playing it. Why are you trying to talk about a game you obviously aren't playing?
Explain to me how they are, then? Clearly you know something I don't about current SA.
Good example scenario of exactly what I was getting at. They ripped away the uniqueness and necessity of certain areas/towns/buildings. I remember whenever they would add new areas to standalone, I would visit it once or twice and then never again. It was a mere novelty, because there was no reason to go there again. Why run and then swim for 30-40 minutes to get to that one prison island, for what exactly? There was no unique loot or vehicle to be gained. Wheras in the mod there was an island people went to often because there was a heli spawn there.
No helis in DayZ Standalone to this day...
>shills violently react to people calling their shit game what it is
im not chopping off my dick just because you thought it was a good idea, and im not going to eat shit just because you enjoy doing so
>Find helicopter in bad shape
>Spend entire night fixing it with friends
>Take off, low fuel
>Land on top of fuel station roof in Cherno
>Hit "Refuel"
>Helicopter, station, and several nearby houses explode
>Helicopter chassis flies over the city, hits the fire station tower
>Fire station collapses, killing 3 players
I SHOULD have been mad but it was just too funny
fuck you for reminding me of the time i never had. got my pc too late to enjoy it.
same
sa is okish now, it has a lot of mods.
We once spent a solid few hours desparately gathering chopper parts (right after the first update that put them in the game) to get our chopper up and running. It was tense as fuck, hoping that none of the other bigger groups would stumble across us while we worked. We finally got it in the air and... Server crash. BOOM. We log back in and the chopper is fucking toast and we're all dead scattered around the woods nearby. Hours of work gone because of a shitty server crash/update but we didn't care because it was hilarious.
>fire gun once
>every zombie on the map immediately rushes you
It made the exploration so tense and made it so you really had to be smart about engaging in fire fights in town. I fucking miss it so much.
>ummmm standalone is good, because... my 500 hour screenshot!
This happens in SA as well currently, and the noise level of the weapon you use matters in terms of detection radius.
Or you could just go play the mod some more, it still exists.
>old ass green skoda
>me and bro been living the gipsy life
>go around map, do small missions
>get ambushed, tires shot out
>walk kilometers
>decide to scavenge cars
>have a shit ton of tires in the car and gasoline
>take tires off random cars always, players rage in sidechat
>hide friend in trunk of volkswagen
>ambush random players when they take it
some of the best time of my life on epoch, too bad i got too late.
also honorable mentions:
>kamikaze with mozzie into blackhawk that is worth a lot more
They played around with the zombie amounts and their aggression in those first few weeks and there was a point where you basically could not fire an unsuppressed weapon anywhere near a town or village because it would aggro every zombie in a 2 mile radius and you would get fucked.
We had a couple dudes in our group rocking crossbows specifically to take out troublesome zeds that we couldn't move around. Worked very well.
this one server i was on had a smear guts mod where you can harvest guts from dead zombies and it protects you for 30 seconds after you smear them on yourself. they don't even see you.
