I've only played through three of them: the original, OoT and MM

Does backloggd really?

I played OOT and dropped BOTW. I like zelda porn doe.

TP and WW are simultaneously a copy and inversion of OOT and MM hence why they feel fresh and derivative at the same time. Still they’re undeniably at least 9/10 games worth replaying every few years

what about it?

LADX and ALBW are my favorites
LTTP and OoT are pretty good too
The DS games are underrated
I will not be playing BOTW or any new games in the series as I don't care for the new direction, but I am happy the series found a new lease on life

No Link's Crossbow Training ?

I didn't know it had a ranking system. Pretty neat.

>LoZ
One of the few NES games that is still remarkably fun to play with its only QoL it feels lacking is an updating map with a few extra details for the overwolrd map.
>AoL
Actually archaic with a game style that will be extremely divisive among players.
>AlttP
The quintessential Zelda game but lacking a bit of the narrative charm that has become mainstay for the series
>AlbW
a remix of AlttP with some extra gimmicks
>LA, OoA, OoS
Slightly watered down AlttP but with a lot more character
>MC
The weakest of the traditional 2d games due to a shorter length, easier difficulty, and a smaller overworld; but with an aesthetic that is gorgeous.
>OoT
The quintessential 3D Zelda game that is a very watered down AlttP but makes up for it with the peak of the Zelda aesthetics that most future games ape from.
>MM
Improves on nearly every aspect of OoT but does so in a weird surreal world with some choice mechanics that might put off some players.
>WW
OoT's formula in a overworld attempting to mimic LoZ. the proto-botw but woefully underbaked. Held highly mostly for its charm
>TP
the Cinematic version of OoT. Improves on some core aspects but suffers from acute linearity and shitty pacing.
>PH
Feels like what a 2d WW would be but is tacked on with dumb DS mechanics and an annoying dungeon you have to return to
>ST
Basically more of PH with a select few fixes but with the worst "overworld" traversal ever concieved in a Zelda game.
>SS
The 3D equivalent of the DS games. A non-existent overworld is replaced with areas becoming mini-dungeons travesred into from a hub space with gameplay chock full of Wii motion gimmicks. The narrative and aesthetic is exceedingly divisive, but the largest detraction is the overuse of heavy backtracking.
>BotW
Attempting to mimic LoZ fundamentals but with modern day open world design. The new direction might put off some used to series but at its core it is still fundamentally a Zelda game.
>FSA/FS
get friends, play multi-dungeons

Interested in Major and Twilight Princess btw. They look cool.

No spin offs. Only normal Zelda games.

four swords is a spinoff

Four Swords isnt in that pic. Thats Four Swords Adventures on gamecube which is a relatively normal zelda game. It has dungeons and whatnot

then why isn't triforce heroes there

where is the oracles remake nintendo?

I forgot about it lol

No more remakes pls god. I want an original 2d zelda

LttP, LA, MM, WWHD and BotW are my top five, with the 2D ones rotating in first place based on my mood. Incredible games, I tend to like Zelda when it's more focused on a neat overworld with memorable npc interactions and secrets more than the dungeon centric ones, never really understood the love for the things when most of them are room by room block puzzles.

I can't stand Phantom Hourglass or Skyward Sword. The late 2000s in general really soured me on the series, I didn't start seeing it in a good light again until ALBW.

>zelda
>spin-offs
user...You don't seriously believe that there are any spin-off Zelda games? They are all 100% canon. Every single game.

WW: I really love the artstyle and exploring an open sea was always really neat, the dungeons are fun, Tetra is cute, second favorite Zelda game
OoT: A bit too linear feeling for my taste, but still very cool for those who love linearity. I dislike that a lot of the puzzles feel like the crux of the puzzle is just "search for thing within 3D space", but being a very early 3D game, it gets a pass.
ALBW: I never finished this but it was okay
LttP: Never finished it but it was better than ALBW
Link's Awakening: Very expansive for a GBC game, I think the general plot and some of the dungeons are fun and interesting, dislike a lot of the fetch quest design to progress.
BOTW: Probably my favorite in the series, just really love exploring and the non-linearity of the game. The dungeons can be from alright to meh in terms of structure, but the systems put in place to do a lot of the puzzles are really creative and interesting that I think it gets pass by me.
LoZ 1: Never did finish it, and I honestly don't remember much besides being confused, or being frustrated with the combat. I wanna give it another shot desu

Other than WW and BOTW, and maybe Link's Awakening, I wouldn't really call myself a fan of Zelda? It's more of a series I like at a distance, and respect, but have never really fell in love with it as a whole, only in pieces.

Nothing to do with canon really. I just excluded the non normal zelda games. so no cdi and no tingle games and no hyrule warriors

youtu.be/N8pWnBEXopw
Will this come back in BOTW2?

BotW is not a Zelda game.

Nice, someone likes Skyward Sword like me
I agree with almost everything you said, especially BoTW
>few NES games
>few
NES still has one of the best vidya libraries in my opinion, TONS of great stuff that can still be enjoyed to this day

>TONS of great stuff that can still be enjoyed to this day
Care to name some? Genuinely curious

>>LoZ
>its only QoL it feels lacking is an updating map with a few extra details for the overworld map.
Do you genuinely believe it needs this?

The overworld map looks okay - but I figured I could do a better one, so I made pic related last night.
However, I've since started to question if Zelda 1 actually needs an overworld map. Or if it's just something that people parrot. Kinda like the whole "you have to bomb / burn everything" myth.
I beat it for the first time three years ago, and then again 2 days ago. And quite enjoyed it.
Not saying it's perfect. It has some flaws. A few hints could have been said better (or removed), Level 6 needs its difficulty reduced, third sword should just require 10 hearts not 12, bushes could give some indication that they are being burned, etc.
But a map seems either unnecessary or possibly a disservice to what the game was going for.
The manual came with an unfinished map - and it seems like the idea was to fill it in / use it as a treasure map.
Some might consider this archaic - games shouldn't require a manual, etc. - I get it. But you play a game like Riven or La Mulana and you can see how a pen and paper can be used to achieve a unique experience. Just printing out the map and having a pen/paper ready would make a player more inclined to write down hints/notes.
Should LoZ have an in-game map just because the others do? Personally, I'm not sure anymore. It makes the game less unique - and I don't think it was ever necessary in the first place - the world isn't that big, and nowhere near as samey as Metroid 1 (which I completed without a map a year ago).
The best argument in favor of the map might be if you have very little time to play games / cannot remember where you left off. But the printed (unfinished) map + notes already kinda addresses this.
Anyway, people can play however they want to. Just spewing thoughts.

Yes! I mean you won't hear anything new from me but still
>Nintendo stuff
Obviously Mario, Zelda and Metroid
Kid Icarus
Kirby's Adventure
Mother/EB Zero
Balloon Fight (I used to play it a lot as a kid on my Famiclone)
>3rd party
Capcom's Rockman 1-6 and all of their Disney games that utilize Rockman's engine (Chip 'n' Dale is my favorite, very popular game among 3rd worlders who grew up playing a Famiclone like me)
Castlevania 1-3, 2 is enjoyable with a guide
Dragon Quest 1-4, 3 is still considered one of the greatest RPGs of all time but my favorite will always be 4
Ninja Gaiden 1-3
Raf World, a lesser known Sunsoft title
There are tons of other classics too but these are my favorites

The only two games worth playing are Adventure of Link and Breath of the Wild.

Zelda 1 is great. You know what's truly bullshit though? The Second Quest, not a lot of people tried it but trust me, it's literally impossible without a guide. Not even /vr/ will call you a zoomer for saying this, it just sucks

>17
8
Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link
A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening
Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask
Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.
Everything else is far below the Zelda quality standard and should be ignored

(cont.)
Another example would be an in-built hint system.
Let's say the game remembered everything the wise men tell you, and you could access this information at any time from the start menu.
It wouldn't be the same as hearing this information and making a conscious effort yourself to either remember it, or write it down.
Check out Metal Storm.
Heh. Never tried it. Heard some things tho.
Funniest shit I've heard is that you can type "ZELDA" as your name to skip to it.
Just imagining some kids being dumped into second quest cause they thought the guy's name was Zelda.

TP > OoT = MM > OoS = OoA > LA > ALBW > Z1 > Z2 > ALttP > SS > MC > BotW > PH > WW > ST > FSA

There are non-canon Zelda games (i.e. the CD-I games, Hyrule Warriors, Cadence of Hyrule), but Four Swords is canon.

I don't consider Four Swords, FS Adventures and Tri Force Heroes mainline Zelda games but they are canon. Spin off =/= non canon

Finished: Zelda 1, Zelda 2, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Four Swords Adventure, A Link Between Worlds
Played but didn't finish: Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages
Never played: Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Breath of the Wild
Currently playing for the first time: Skyward Sword

Why didn't you finish Link's Awakening? It's not a long game and it's really charming

I have played and beaten all of these games, making me very cool and powerful

Attached: 1472066066885.jpg (960x1280, 396.45K)

I didn't have a gameboy as a kid, I just tried it one time at a friend's house. Same with the oracle games. I might get the Switch remake later, or just emulate the GBC version.

>The Second Quest, not a lot of people tried it but trust me, it's literally impossible without a guide.
This is another myth. I went in blind a few weeks ago and beat it without much issue. And I'd say it's better than the base game in every way.

Attached: 3j7d8_TwbYJGB8Ef5HNv6e4_lecdO7eCQaoYkJxocIQ.png (4170x1986, 251.23K)

Emulate the GB/GBC version first. The remake is its own beast

Almost all have the same basic blueprint and story.
>collect something, beat Ganon, save the Princess
Basically Mario but with twinks and swords.

> I'd say it's better than the base game in every way
You're probably still in the honeymoon phase after overcoming this challenge. There is no way it's better than the base game. Congrats on beating it without a guide though, it's harder than regular Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 combined in terms of cryptic shit

The dungeons are definitely better. They feel like actual labyrinths with invisible walls, one way paths and secret stairs everywhere, you need to take notes to not get lost. I also like that some items like the recorder and the bracialet are more useful. And I think the overworld is more ingenuous in how it uses your knowledge of the original game to fuck with you, for example placing the up up up the mountain ahead dungeon not on top but in the repeating screen.

Meant ingenious obviously.

Seasons > Lttp > 2 > ages > MC >= Awakening > 1 > shit > DS zeldas

TP > OoT > Windwaker randomizer > MM > BotW > Windwaker >>>>> Squidward sword

To each their own I guess, unfortunately Quest 2 is too hard for me to enjoy without a guide

SS PH ST Touch/Motion Controls were a mistake.

BotW needs real dungeons and No Stamina/Weapon Edurance.

Every other game is great.

ALTTP is my favorite.

You have to be 18 to post here.

agree with pretty much all of this

Good job I'm 46 then

Some things that bother me about LoZ NES: enemies should have more weaknesses to different weapons, especially lategame. The Magic Rod is fucking useless, couldn't it be effective against Wizzrobes or something for example? It sucks having a big arsenal and still be forced to use the sword.
Also what sense does it make for the Red Ring to be deep within level 9, where you get to use it for maybe 15 minutes? Put it on level 8 at least.

>Nice, someone likes Skyward Sword like me
Count me as three

Attached: 1615662118159.jpg (564x564, 61.99K)

>couldn't it be effective against Wizzrobes or something for example
It is? It's effective against everything. You can hit an enemy multiple times with just one shot if you do it correctly

Wizzrobes are immune to the Rod, and so is that bug with a circle around him whose name I don't remember.

Oh it's been a while since I played Zelda 1, I swear I remember shooting them with the rod. But anyway it makes sense, they are Wizzrobes after all...

OP here. I didnt even put it there as a canon thing. I just left off games that don't play like normal zelda games. FSA is still mostly similar to standard 2d zelda

4 . Game has the best sword combat in any sword game ever made

1 - Best game in the series. I was amazed from beginning to end. It nailed the coming of age aspect very well.
2 - One of the most overrated games ever made. The time system, while interesting, really didn't work in a game like Zelda and most of the side quests (which take up the majority of the content) were some of the worst in the series. Easily my least favorite.
3 - Incredible. Didn't play this game until about 15 years later, but it blew me away then and it still holds up very well
4 - Incredible. This is probably the most charming game in the entire series. Amazing what they were able to do on an early GB game.
5 - Never played
6 - Played it for a few hours. Seemed good from what I played of it.
7 - Haven't finished, but nowhere near as bad as it was made out to be.
8 - Never played
9 - Doesn't get enough attention. It doesn't stand out like other games in the series do, but it's a solid Zelda title.
10 - "Okay, we will give in to the internet and make an edgy OOT remake....and make it as boring as possible"
11 - Never played
12 - Saved the franchise and is easily my second favorite entry
13 - Almost killed the franchise for me. It's the first game where the focus shifted on story over gameplay and it showed. It was also plagued by the worst controller ever made, don't know if the Switch version is better because of it.
14 - Still holds up very well and my third favorite game in the whole series. Basic, but a lot more fun than most games
15 - Second most underrated game ever made. The game could've had a nicer start difficulty-wise (It's one of those games that starts out hard and then gets easier as you go through it) and got rid of the instant-death pits, but it's a unique game made in an era where experimenting with sequels was the norm, so I never had an issue with the change in design. Even then, it's still an absolute blast to play and some of the best swordplay the series has to this date.
16 - Never played
17 - Never played

Why did they use that weird gold on the covers?

No, it's Sekiro

Because it looks cool

The Triforce
