I personally believe thats because Supreme Commander is an awful game to play. Me and some buddies played it late last year, and the design is so archaic and old that it isn't even fun. Compared to BW which still feels good to play. The concept is cool, but the linear scaling is just boring and offers very little variation especially when playing PvP. On top of that the fucking modders are a cancer on this earth, full of moralfags.

Uru Live is still going though, the private server continues to get updated and it's fully supported by the devs, with some of the original that worked on it helping on the private server.
