L4D was practically DLC for the Orange Box. Peak kino. L4D2 felt just... off somehow despite feeling more like an AAA game. L4D just had everything going for it. The gameplay just worked, the characters where more likeable, market hadn't been completely oversaturated with zombie media yet.

Maybe advertising themselves as THEEEE REASON LEFT 4 DEAAAAD IS LEFT 4 DEAAAAD was a bad idea considering Valve wrangling is what made l4d into an actually enjoyable game.

A number of things, there's a big shitpost somewhere but from my personal experience
>Maps are too big, if you're not in a vehicle it takes an eternity to get to objectives
>Specialists instead of classes means people who look exactly the same are on different teams, virtually no readability at all
>Game is horribly unoptimized and would most likely have damaged my 3070 somehow if I kept playing it
>Portal was the best part of the game, but was completely half-assed like the rest of it, and a total lack of community servers means the main gimmick of Portal basically goes unplayed, I only ever got to play one game with WW2 Gerrmans vs BF3 USMC near launch and that was it
