That user is an idiot. They aren't Allagans. Allagans are from the Third Astral Era and their empire fell 5000 years ago. The earliest solid proof of Twelve worship is from the early Allagan Empire which worshiped Azeyma. The Twelve are related to the Ancients somehow.

I don't think they predate the Ancients because there are clear elements of Venat's personality in Azeyma and Emet's personality in Nald'thal. They seem more like sentient versions of Elpis's Twelve Wonders, which is an island which keeps twelve aetherial barometers in the form of clusters of each element each tuned to astral and umbral polarity, which is exactly what the Twelve are.

That's a fantastic theory user.
What most bothers me is why they haven't/can't help us and why only now did they show themselves along with the Void and the things happening there too.
My only assumptions Hydalein and Zordiark were some sort of blocker/plug for things like this to not appear and once they've disappeared/gone they showed up.
Also, sorta on/off-topic, does it still show reality unraveling on the Moon? Was that ever resolved?

That I don't know. If they're just meant to act as overseers or walking barometers, then why make them at all? Who would they be tracking the state of the world for? Zodiark's death has created a shift in the world's aetherial state so that it's restructuring to resemble the unsundered world, but according to them they seem to actually leave the heavens regularly in their animal forms so I don't think Zodiark's restructuring was actually stopping them at all.

It's never too late to play because there are a ton of incentives for players to still do old content, and the devs are going back and making the main story soloable in chunks anyway. By the time the next expansion rolls around, the whole thing will be solo friendly.
There is a free trial that will last you right up until the beginning of the 2nd expansion pack, so there's a huge amount of shit to do for free, especially if you delve into the side content.

Not too late at all, you just have a lot of story ahead of you. At the very least the story content from level 1-50 is decent and 50-60 is absolutely on point. All of the content past level 60 will require you to purchase the most recent expansion however.
This game is one of the few instances of "it gets better after four dozen hours" is true, which isn't a good thing honestly, but it's how it is.

As a IV fanatic, the patch is automatically 10/10. New raid is probably the best non-Ivalice raid ever. CC is the first time PVP has been FUN. New housing items are dope as hell. Got to see best girl Nidhana. Garo shit is back. This patch has redeemed EW for me.

But it needs to be said that one of the reasons it gets so good is because it builds heavily on the metric fuckton of setup done in that less-than-stellar early segment, so while it isn't great, it should by no means be ignored.
