I can't tell if they're actually schizophrenic. It feels like a /r9k/ but for severe mental illness and government conspiracy bullshit. I visited the board for the first time this year and I just...I really don't know what to make of it. It doesn't feel like any other board... I'll give it this, it actually has its own unique culture and does a great job at gatekeeping unlike any other board.

Jank was necessary to the experience and now that anyone can fart out a well functioning game with godot it's too polished to be appreciated for jank, and not high enough core quality to enjoy in its full presentation.

part of the reason why is that the industry-orchestrated gamergate was set up to push away the older, more-cynical audience for an era of "perfect consoomers." these people have no imagination or even thoughts of their own. they got into -- or back into -- video games during the booming nerd trend of early-last-gen; stemming from the nerd culture of a constant strong of shitty superhero movies for years.
the industry saw hundreds of millions of people like this and they just had to have them for the target audience

remember; all other forms of media went through their "gamergate" before games did

What defined those Myths/Creepypastas of those games and a few more is the fact that majority of the popular ones weren't over the top garbage like the shit we have nowadays, they had media that was believable enough + the game's unintentional uncanny-ness and lack of info on the games.

Compare something like this image or old videos versus the newer garbage. Sure it's cheesy now that we've been jaded to this stuff, but it's ages better than the new garbage that's just a bombardment of lights and sounds just for the sake of it. Poeple actually went through the effort of making things believable than just half-assing something and calling it a day.

Is there any fucking vidya creepypasta that exists out there that is grounded more in reality because that's the only kind that captures my interest these days. I'm talking shit like

Petscop. After a few episodes, the story went from pretty okay to both dumbed down and a bit of a mess. At least it looks visually nice.

Last i remember, Petscop was designed by Rainer to expose that Marvin, after he loses his childhood friend Lina, he kidnaps his daughter Care into the school basement, thinking it's Lina but reborn as Care.

That's the baseline, it gets muddied on specifics. There's a girl named Belle who's also been rebirthed into Tiara, and maybe even Paul as well, something about the family and stuff, it's confusing as fuck.
