Voice acting was a mistake. I don't care who these people are, and I don't care how talented (or not) they are. I will mute dialog volume at every opportunity. There has never been a bigger waste of budget in video game history than voice acting, never mind the damage it did to the very structure of video games when would-be directors realized they could just make movies with button prompts.

That wasn't the fault of voice acting, games since the NES have had voice acting. Games-as-movies came as a result of the success of FMV through games like FF7 and Resident Evil.
