I remember 12 years ago being so happy when I found out there were bootleg clones of habbo running on private servers where they'd just give you infinite money. Coming from working all day to earn an ugly 2 credit chair or falling for a scam where you sent a credit to x account to multiply it x100 to just buying whatever you wanted or dressing how you wanted felt great. The game could really do without all its economy bullshit. Only problem with clones was they often lacked features like all the furni or jukebox funcionality, and communities were only a hundred players online at most, so the difficulty was keeping them alive and sustainable

It was a neat little virtual chat room with just the right amount of limits in place that prevented it from becoming a degenerate hive like Second Life, IMVU or VR Chat, and it fostered an environment where people could find creative ways to have fun. Still, this is the first online game I can recall where paid cosmetics were a thing, and now they're on the NFT wagon, so fuck 'em.

There was a setting that allowed anyone to drop furniture in a room so we set the room to that and I would just tell the people that we reprogrammed one of the square tiles to start the trade up, all you have to do is drop what you want to trade on this specific square.

To my surprised my room started filling up with shit and we would kick people and password the room and try again later. Good memories.

Or another time for some reason one of the "pod chairs" was thought to be very rare a blue variant, so I just got the other common blue ones and would spam that it's the rare blue variant but looks like the common one in the trade window and was able to trade a bunch of them off for some more rare items and I did end up getting a throne from that scam.

I tried several but can't even remember their names since they died quite quickly due to only a handful of people (mostly staff) remaining there.
Then around 7 years ago I found hobba.tv (preoviously hobba.fm) and stuck there. There were always 300+ people online, and the community was pretty active, there are daily radio shows with DJs and there's also some economy going on but it's only based on thrones, ugly limited time rares, and ugly custom clothing, so it doesn't bother me, plus it helps keeping the thing afloat. Still connect every once in a while to reminisce about tween days and build rooms. It's spanish speaking though so only spaniards and south americans there
