No terror more truly horrifying than an empty hallway.
No clue no even sure if that stuff even has enough stuff on getting the brain juices for fan games to flow again

However This vid makes me wanna play a backrooms themed freak fortress
>Dusty old boomers can't understand horror
>Le empty hall
AAAAAAAAA HELPE MEEEEE AAAAAAA
Is there really not a backrooms map for freak fortress? not even slender fortress?
>backrooms were scary because they were empty and unnatural
>LMAO WHAT IF LE SPOOKY TWIG MAN CHASE YOU SO SPOOKY XDXD
AAAAAHHH NIGGERMAN SAVE ME
The monster has always been part of the original pasta
but it was just vague and uncertain enough to be interesting. the video just botches it
i agree. the backrooms worked as a mysterious thing instead of le epic matpat lore.
IS-IS THAT AN EMPTY HALLWAY?
AAAAAIEEEEEEE NIGGERMAN HELP MEEEEEEE
Isn't there already a game about liminal spaces? Not Kane's rendition but encapsulates the feeling perfectly. It's made by one dude though.
this would honestly be a better game if it removed the tryhard horror shit and just let you explore cool abandoned pools
without le spooky jumpscares and crappy voice acting it would be so much better
the fear was supposed to be a trapped area in a never ending empty office space
then redditors added a monster to it and it stopped being scary.
Is that... empty office space!? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH RAIMU HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
monster was always part of it etc etc
...
where is this stupid lie coming from? the monster was always part of the story
TURN THE FUCKING LIGTH OFF YOU STUPID NIGGER
>not spooky because empty
>not spooky because monster
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Am I the only one who likes the idea of being in the backrooms? Take out the entities/monsters and you've basically got yourself trillions of kilometers all to yourself and you can be basically roam free and be yourself without society's judgmental eyes.
I mean there's supposedly an area with a bunch of swimming pools (pic related). Imagine having your own private swimming sessions in a super-clean swimming pool.
I wish we could have a liminal space horror game that wasn't just a walking sim
There are two kinds of people, the brainlets that only care about the shitty creepypasta monster chasing you slenderman style, and the Chads that can appreciate the kino atmosfear of being lost alone in a large empty artificial spaces.
>RAIMU
It's Riamu motherfucker
Honestly if these games didn't rely on spooky jumpscares they would be able to encapsulate feelings of dread and hopelessness fantastically well with just external context cues moreso than trying to elicit a visceral response from the player. I have been saying this for years, but a game where the player is in one of these fucked up nightmare spaces and slowly finds out through a variety of tips and information that some absolutely horrific truth is the reason they are there AND that it would be the safest place to be AND having some kind of pair of bad ends to show the dreadful results of escape contrasted against the despair of surrender would be wonderful.
I just think these places look comfy as hell to be in
idk. It can be scary if there is something haunting these empty places. Makes me establish context of why its empty and all.
I can see that it can be uncomfortable to be in a lived in environment that has all the people sucked out.
Otherwise its another rendition of niggerman save me bullshit.
>He sure as hell heard you
Motherfucker that shit is carpeted. Unless you're a goddamned elephant stomping all over the placecyou're sneaking up on everything and everyone in those rooms.
I'd probably just spend most of my time jerking off everywhere but yeah I guess it'd be pretty comfy.
why are you assuming it has normal human senses? its a monster, it could very easily have super hearing, normal dogs have like 50x our hearing.
So did people from medieval times no clip into a year 2000 era-esque office too?
What about humans a millennia from now?
That’s why backrooms aren’t scary to me. They make zero sense.
I feel like this rendition is the best since there actually is a monster and it better captures the feel of infinite rooms. Most "unnerving" photos said to be liminal horror don't do anything for me.
they look like places that ive been on my dreams
very peaceful
Well how else would you get around?
that only makes it more interesting
Maybe the implication is that human history is fabricated and the medieval period we're taught never happened. If that's so then the backrooms could be more real than reality.
The general idea is mostly that they are something of a "glitch" in reality, and presuming the simulation-esque implications of the Backrooms, presuming it was a Medieval or Futuristic environment, it'd probably be similar or the outright same depending on what spaces existed of this nature. A Medieval eternal catacombs or perpetual castle wouldn't be too difficult to perceive. A futuristic hotel that stretches onto infinity also wouldn't be hard to understand.
The monster isn't scary unless it's made clear that you're even worse off when it catches you. Trapped in the backrooms, you're already fucked, especially if you can't die of starvation.
The Pool Rooms (aka Backrooms Level 37) are kino. Jared Pike's work is pretty cool.
There’s no food and there’s no guaranteed safe or clean water. You die in 4 days.
I mean the series showed what happens when it gets you. Looked like a pretty painful and weird death to me.
i love theses places. whenever i get to build my own house ill make sure it has one of these somewhere
Super hearing isn't that useful when you're wandering in an area that's mostly made of sound-deadening material with a shitload of white noise in the form of overhead lights. If that were linoleum, sure, but that's a flat blanket of carpet.
OHNOES VROS A EMPTY ROOM WITH A STICKMAN SO SCAWWY
Same. A lot of my dreams involve exploring insanely large malls with winding mazelike architecture and for some reason the basement level is always flooded.
>Spooky monster
Boring.
>Limnal spaces
Boring.
>Game where you have to evade taxes while running from the tax man
Terrifying.
to add your actually go insane pretty quickly due to the noise canceling nature of all the materials
add to that the only sound you’d ever hear is a constant in unending faint buzzing from the lights
more like running from the missus, amirite my fellow adult men?
I could have sworn there was something similar to the Backrooms, but it was like this big, infinitely expanding shitty 80's mall that was both abandoned and seems to show signs of life but no matter how far you go in any direction, all you can find are more and more abandoned stores that seem familiar but none of them are. The big horror "zings" were both that it also extends vertically upwards to seemingly infinity (escalators, elevators, and the roof plan making it impossible to really see how far up or down it goes), and that it was always playing music, but every so often you heard announcements over the intercom that suggest activity, but it's impossible to ever tell where said activity is supposed to be occurring or if it's just pre-recorded in some impossible to comprehend loop. I remember all of this every time someone brings up the Backrooms.
taxes aren’t that bad user
artificially inflated prices steal way more from you
People on here pay taxes?
sounds like this album to me

So what exactly is the difference between this and a basic haunted house? It's a location with a scary monster that does jumpscares and chases you. Is that not the most standard horror premise? Except with an environment that will get boring after two minutes.
>not even this guy could commit to the more abstract horror of being lost in limbo alone forever and had to dump in a standard monster chase
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HELP ME NIGGER MAN!
>The backrooms was a neat idea
>Popular Creepy themed YouTubers with zero creativity all jumped on it and rode it into the dirt
Honestly what stings the worst about The Bsckrooms becoming normy tier, is that people don't even know it originated on /x/
This creepy pasta reminds me of House of Leaves's Navidson Record. I should give that a re-read.
Was this the one that literally had to include dialogue by the player character saying "I'm scared by this!" because it's not scary?
>running next to a pool
The life guard wont be happy about this
Control takes place in a place like this and it's implied that it only looks like a giant endless office building because that's what the people there expect to see, and the building itself is actually the modern incarnation of the World Tree.
No it doesn't
