Nah, it's just a staple of fiction to having talking animals and besides that the 90s and 2000s had their own explicit propaganda it just wasn't as widespread and inescapable at that time as it is today.

I'd love to see an Assault remake that really goes back and improves on Assault's formula. Make it faster, add in more missions, bring back branching paths that all stay in narrative, and of course online multiplayer. Add Leon, Panther, heck even Pigma and Andrew as playable characters too.

It's mostly because Starfox is incredibly cursed. You're effectively locked into 'just make another on-rail shooter lmao', replicating every damn SF64 level. Something like SF2 would be nice to do and smaller in scope but all and all you would be fucked over.
Second problem is the engine - while Unity and UE are there for easy solutions. Coding a good rail shooter in them requires legwork and knowing what you're doing. That's why most of the Starfox projects used Freescape engine for a while - almost suited for all-range mode.
Third is the fact that while everyone wants another Starfox... no one really wants a Starfox-knock off, writing it as 'fanfiction' at best. So basically to make Starfox-clone the best way is to outdo Starfox 64 on every level, and try accomplishing that.
