3 is the game that properly introduces Vergil as a character and it makes a big deal out of them being twins. All the games after are in the same continuinity, it makes no sense to just discard it in 5 (dunno about 4). It was a very iconic and strong visual theme of the characters and now it's gone even though it makes no fucking sense in any way for it to be different.

His moveset fucking sucked and his devil hand only being useful at very specific windows during boss fights wasn't great. Compound the moveset issue with almost the entire second half of the game being style swapped Dante and it's hard to stand by him. Nero when you first learn him can't get shit for damage, then you learn the timing on revving the sword and he deals easy damage and combos aren't even necessary anymore so he gets boring.
