Mass Effect

It's been 10 years and you're still mad.

yes, I am, in fact, still mad.

martin sheen was kino

Shitty things don't become less shitty over time

True but that's no excuse.

Not even mad desu. Played the games long after the ending debacle, so I was lucky enough to get them with all DLCs and add-ons. Suffice it to say, I was expecting the ending to not be good, and yes, it's not, but I'm not nearly as mad. Nor am I mad about some of the other missteps the series makes. For some reason, I just find these games too comfy to be mad. I love the characters and world-building, even if the story is on the weaker side. It's a shame that we'll never get anything like it.

2>1>3

LE1 > LE3 > ME1 > ME3 > ME2 > LE2

Yes, how could you tell?

>2
>better than anything

It's actually
2>3>1

Yes.

based

3 is only as bad as it is because 2 goes nowhere

2 was the point where I lost interest in the series because of how much they butchered it.
It felt like a fucking pre-apha version of the first game with entire sections and mechanics are missing and sometimes replaced by nothing or placeholders like the probe minigame.
I didn't even try 3 and just pretend ME1 is a standalone game with no sequels.

nice
ME2 was the biggest clusterfuck of a story. Maybe one of the worst video game stories ever created. Even the starchild post patch where you couldn't even shoot it was better.

>Maybe one of the worst video game stories ever created.
That's a pretty big hyperbole

I wouldn't call it bad game per se but it's definitely one of the worst games of a series as a a whole in history

>2 goes nowhere

Wrong. It goes right back to where it started.

Bioware looked at every thing people complained about in ME1 and "fixed" it in the worst way possible
>Long loading screens (or rather elevators)
>Well that was because of the massive areas, so let's make them tiny, ALL OF THEM
>Mako driving
>Get rid of it completely
>Exploring those random planets which were empty and rather repetitive
>Turn it into a shit mini-game
>Why aren't the guns like my favorite FPS?!
>Suddenly everyone in the galaxy uses clips
And other things I can't remember

This. ME1 has rough edges, but at its core it was a slowly unfolding mystery with a massive payoff at the end when it all comes together. Characters acting badass is cool and all, but when it stems from a logical procession of events it has a much greater impact. ME2 is a much more cinematic game than ME1, but its plot is so fucking retarded and goes nowhere start to finish, it diminishes the impact because it was never built on anything. You can't just string "cool" scenes together and expect people with functioning brain cells to give a fuck. ME1 was more grounded, it just needed improvements in the sequels, not to utterly dump the style in favor of making yet another dumb action shooter.

Hypothetically someone creates a top 10 worst video game stories list. Would ME2 make the cut? I would put it in just below TLOU2 in the top 5.
Hyperbole? not so much.

Loved Mass Effect
Dropped 2 after the first section.
Never played 3.
Shitdromeda only exist in my Yea Forums folder in meme form.
Simple as.

There's a lot worse out there if you ask me.

Actually I was never mad. I played them all for the first time throughout 2015/6 so I got to experience them at their best with all DLCs. I had no downtime between games coming up with best case scenario theories on how the devs totally planned the trilogy and they weren't just winging it with each game, and this place lead me to believe 3's ending was the worst thing since Hitler so when I got the "Shepard breathes" scene I was content. Reapers were blown the fuck up, I had the context from Leviathan, the galaxy would rebuild and Shepard will get to live to old age.
There hasn't been anything quite like it since and I doubt we'll get anything quite like it in a long time. These are games you come back to time and time again, and I'm glad the Legendary Edition introduced the trilogy to a bunch of new players.

ME1 had long loading screens AND mini loading screens randomly popping when walking around
God ME1 was shit

Thinking of buying the Legendary Edition. Does anyone know if you can import your save files from the original trilogy?

>it's definitely one of the worst games of a series as a a whole in history
It's not

He's not that wrong. It's obvious they only cared about individual setpieces so if you look at the game as the middle chapter in a supposedly connected trilogy, it's weird. Devs probably spent far too much time on "this squadmate will me met in a space prison, this one will be met in a night-time skyscraper, this one will..." and not enough in writing several more drafts on the Collectors, the Reapers and TIM.

The coolest moment in the entirety of ME1 is a 15 minute conversation where the only thing you do is click dialogue topics and listen to a glowing floating orange ball. And you listen to every damn word it says with a spark in your eyes.

Legendary Edition accepts saves from the original ME2 and ME3, but *not* ME1. Too different or something.

i always skip me1, its just too boring

I actually have ME 1 and 2 in steam but never played them, is it worth it?

Nah.

>1
yes
>2
nah

indoctrination theory is canon

Mass Effect was never good. Terrible story, terrible gameplay, terrible characters, not roleplaying games. Just a generic chest high wall shooter with Telltale Style dialogue segments.
Bioware is fucking awful, always have been. Their ''''''''''''good''''''''''''' games were always bad. Baldur's Gate sucked. KOTOR was shitty and inferior to KOTOR 2 (not developed by bioshit). Dragon Age was worse than Mass Effect.

I am so mad that I refused to buy any more Bioware games.

Mass Effect 2 came out in 2010 so 12 years, actually.

ME2 is

finished me1 just started me2
ashley or miranda
no spoil my first playthrough
i romanced ash in the first one but miranda has a hot accent and is hotter in general
just started on some colony
looks and feels better but why did they take out the items and half of the skills

You might want to pirate the remaster, it looks slightly worse like all remasters seemingly do but it comes with all DLC integrated into the games which is the best way to experience it. Narrative is at its best in 1, gameplay is at its best in 3.

Attached: SOVL.png (1920x1080, 2.02M)

garrus dies

Jack

also i pirated it
it said i had to log in to cerberus to access dlc
i couldnt
i got the version with all dlc but im not sure if theyre active

wow you got me
like a give shit faggot
why would i believe you anyway

>ashley or miranda
Ash isn't an option in 2, she returns in 3 but you'll wish she didn't
>why did they take out the items and half of the skills
Because EA bought Bioware a month before ME1's release, so ME2 was developed with them at the helm. That meant bigger budget, but also more streamlining so CoD and Gears people would buy it. ME3 continues with 2's style but deepens it with branching skill trees and the return of weapon mods.

OG or LE? In either case you don't have to log in anywhere, if the DLCs are in your game's folder, they're activated by default

>no spoil my first playthrough
You can refuse to recruit every party member except one, because the story demands it. That party member is actually from the future and came back to warn you about the reapers.

OG
great dont want to miss out on the extra story

Go to Mass Effect 2\BioGame\DLC, you'll see a million folders. Most of those are weapons or armor pieces you'll be given right at the start because they were typical EA pre-order shenanigans, but DLC_EXP_Part01, DLC_EXP_Part02 and DLC_UNC_Pack01 will be the big expansions.

thanks
the armours look like crap im just going to use the default

>He thinks his opinion is "sophisticated" or "enlightened" by not ranking Mass Effect 3 as the lowest piece of shit in the series.
Everyone KNEW Andromeda would suck, but Mass Effect 3 was so fucking bad that it not only got a low effort "please stop bullying our studio" patch, but it actually made fans HEADCANON INTO EXISTENCE the indoctrination theory, which is unironically better than anything bioware has ever written if you have the autism like me to watch a few hours of videos on it.
God I love commas. I cannot slow down.

ME2
start of game
>kills shepherd then brings back
>kills normandy then brings back
>kills final decisions from ME1 and brings you back as a terrorist
>kills infinite ammo lore and brings back modern warfare
>kills plot progression and only brings back the reaper threat you needed to take care of as a paid DLC set after ME2
t-t-thanks bioware

The issue is that the world building largely goes to shit after ME1 because it turns from "sci-fi space opera" into "2000s FX TV show" into "epic summer blockbuster". The occasional good character doesn't really excuse the fact that they shrunk the scope of everything and took away any of the sense of awe and wonder that existed in ME1. Being able to fuck Tali isn't really worth the tradeoff and it becomes obvious that they didn't really have a clue as to what the overall plot was, especially ME3 where they more or less shit on and then tossed out all of the lore, worldbuilding and player choices.

In fact, you fix the ME games by making Cerberus, not the Reapers, the villains because Bioware wrote themselves into a corner as to how to actually deal with the Reapers. Instead you keep basic aspects (like the Reapers culling organics that reach a certain level) but keep it in the background.

>ME1
Plays out mostly like normal.

>ME2
Somewhat the same, only instead of dying Shepard "goes rogue" in a plan cooked up with the Council/Anderson/Udina to investigate missing human colonists in the Terminus Systems. Cerberus is a wildcard party, Collectors are still there, no massive Reaper invasion at the end. A lesser version of Arrival instead means the Batarians declaring war on humanity and the Council starting the Terminus War.

>ME3
Everything's gone to shit. Batarians are raging, Geth are making another move, criminal groups are reaping the rewards, war rages, all of the Council races are divided. Cerberus has iniltrated the highest levels of the Alliance and takes it over intent on using Reaper technology to make humanity the dominant galactic species. Shepard and the good guys realize that this will be the last trigger needed to bring back the Reapers so it's a race against time to stop Cerberus and restore peace ot the galaxy before the that can happen in a big grand finale.

There, fixed the fucking plot for those morons.

but muh world building

Alright guys, who would you cast for a mass effect tv show

Lets assume mass effect 2 for this, so all the crew and squad from it
HARD MODE: a good actor for Jacob

Alright but you bettee have Yvonne Strakhovsky as Miranda or you're actually retarded

Honestly I'm more mad that fucked up ME:A then dumped it.
