Since the barrier to entry is zero, it means that it attracts a lot of underage kids. Since the game doesn't have any original music that means that what gets mapped is either anime OP/EDs or stolen musoc from objectively superior games. Unfortunately the playerbase is also extremely vocal, which means they like to comment on rhythm game music videos on Youtube in the style of "LiKe ThIs If U cAmE fRoM oSU xD" which is heavily frowned upon.

My only interaction with the osu community was a furry randomly messaging me and start hitting on me.

Multiplayer seems to have changed a lot over time. Back in 2012~2015 you could join a mp room and pretty much everyone would be talking. When I played a bit again a few years ago I'd join and barely anyone would talk at all, even in full rooms.

Do not downloade random Beatmaps, stick to the packs or your harddrive will be filled with viruses to the top.

S is reserved for 0 misses, but doesn't require a full combo, and the scoring system is heavily biased towards combo.
It's pretty dumb. It's also caused me to lose PP at a few points because I got a lower accuracy run with a higher combo, which had a higher score.

90% is pretty low. You didn't fail for missing one note, you failed for being consistently inaccurate.

They make up the vast majority of charts available.

i can't think of any other rhythm games that have health/scoring system this poorly designed

Just the play the good maps then. If you don't want to download a shitton of maps and try all of them, look up which ones are the best or fuck it, play only loved maps.
As for the community, dunno, never interacted with it.

As for actual reasons, the scoring system kinda sucks, which makes it annoying to improve. For example, I dislike grinding for FC's, so, I basically never get pp. After a while I stopped trying and I now play it just for fun.

I'd say anime OP's are 50%, various EDM is 40% and 10% is left for other random songs.

Because they leave the difficulty settings to the mappers.
And higher difficulty settings force you to get higher accuracy, giving you more PP.

It's not poorly designed. You're just bad. 90% acc means you mistime at least 1/3 of the notes and probably more.
That you're able to pass maps with something like 75% acc shows how lenient the health system is.

No, there are guidelines for that. Unranked maps don't count.

"Guidelines" mean nothing if you can just bullshit some arbitrary justification about how it was totally intentional and it fits the source material to have super fucking unforgiving HP drain.

HP drain is calculated by the game. The drain stat does hardly anything.

Sort of, I think it's based on both the stat and average object density. I know it's been changed a few times and haven't really kept up with it lately.

The point is that a) you can't just put some absurd shit in low star maps and b) you can't fail a map by missing a single note, no matter how high the drain.
People complaining here just play maps that are way too difficult for them and then blame the game.

There are some ranked maps that are bullshit and beatmap nominators clearly abuse their rank by greenlighting each other's maps but the majority of beatmaps are absolutely bullshit free and fine.

The ranked section is a bunch of safe bets and circlejerking, finding a nominator is nearly impossible if you haven't made a name for yourself.

And the occasional ultrashitpost. Never got anything ranked because I didn't farm enough clout.

After cookiezi initially got unbanned and got all his popular scores, all the new maps started becoming shitty pp farming tv size jump maps

I played Player One, Rockstar and So Long Sentiment and holy shit they're really really good.
Consistent difficulty, interesting patterns, good flow and following the song really well. Shame they're not ranked.

please don't promote people to play sdvx on a keyboard it's really not worth it. sdvx is very much a game where you need the controller to play.

The entry to play on keyboard is free and assuming they like the game they can decide to buy/build a controller themselves later.
