SQUAD

Sell me on this game. How is it?

Tarkov is more fun.

garbage game that only got popular because of streamers

Name a game that hasn't gotten popular in the last 10 years due to streamers.

squad is shit
I played it like 3 years ago and I thought it was VR chat but for military nerds
I played it recently and its the same shit

Its impressive how many people play this game and have absolutely no idea about what the fuck to do and just roleplay
If you want to be better than 95% of the playerbase, try to find enemy fobs with a friend and camp them, you will literally outclass everyone in the 64 team server outside of vehicles, if you want to go further and carry entire match then play as logi heli and set up the fobs yourself, this game is so fucking stupid when you realize who does 99% of the match effort, even fucking battlefield has more personal effort to win the match than squad, 99% of the players on a random server will be roleplaying and saying yes sir, taking photos and other gay shit

Great game when you have competent squad leaders. Awful game when you have bad squad leaders.

Squad

It's all time high player count is 14k, so it hasn't reached any sort of popularity comparable to a "twitch popular" game.

It's more milsim than CoD/Battlefield but way more arcadey than Arma. It's probably my favorite multiplayer game at the moment.

They fell for the "too much realism' meme, especially in the map department. Way too big, way too open, way too much downtime. IRL there would be thousands of people attacking/defending ie. the city the size of ones in game, in Squad you have 32 people to do it. Its a straight downgrade from Project Reality's map design.

Red Orchestra/Rising Storm have always been the superior milsim that understood how to make things feel real but also how to simulate one army fighting another.

>logi heli
>setting up HABs yourself
Ask me how I know you haven't played in years and are a shitter.

All about the lobby and squad you get. I've had games that were boring as fuck with nothing happening and me just randomly dying cuz of a bad squad. It's like Arma but more self-contained and a bit easier to process. A true milsim.

the developers are on the same level of incompetent as dice or 343

Autistic community.

>more milsim than CoD/Battlefield but way more arcadey than Arma
Exactly what I’m looking for.

depends on the players in the server. i can actually squad-lead worth a shit, i'm not a milsim guy so it's basically just shitposting with the lads until we make contact.

my main problem comes from egotistical squad leaders that want to do spec-ops deep insertion into enemy lines. you get enough of those guys and they just expect you to backcap. i've gotten into arguments with them about their retarded plans, got tired of being middlemanaged, joined the other team and then proceeded to wreck their shit.

How long do games typically last? Do you normally end with a decent amount of kills or is it the type of game where you end with 2 or 3 kills? And finally how are updates? Any hope of the game staying alive for quite a while?

>game runs

nah

If you are playing with actual faggots who play "lets flank the map and get lost and blame the team" you will have a 1-2 kills if lucky

sells itself as a better ArmA when all it's really just Battlefield but with ArmA's milsim shit sprinkled on top

tarkov's just a shitty DayZ clone, no-one actually plays it

>my main problem comes from egotistical squad leaders that want to do spec-ops deep insertion into enemy lines. you get enough of those guys and they just expect you to backcap.
actually this
i have this problem all the time when i play with my friends.
I want to be on the front lines with them, shooting cunts.
instead they want to drive a supply truck off-road for 40min to some distant useless flank or backline and complain that the rest of the team hasnt capped points behind them yet

>How long do games typically last?

average around an hour, hour and a half. depends on the average skill of players in the teams, some servers team stack. hilarious when they get sweeped by randos.

>Do you normally end with a decent amount of kills or is it the type of game where you end with 2 or 3 kills?

i personally cant aim for shit, i peaked in high school with halo 2. i average about 2-3 kills a game. but im squadleading so i focus more on being a tard wrangler, and wranglering my group of guys into a favorable position or giving them intel on enemy positions.

>And finally how are updates? Any hope of the game staying alive for quite a while?

im the wrong guy to ask, i just get drunk and hope on squad on friday/saturday nights for a couple of games.

>tarkov
the game with absolute dogshit controls where your char feels like sliding on ice? I'm good
also no refunds
I have about 900 hours on it, it's decent. Definetly suffers from bullshit mechanics here and there. Devs have made literal millions, will push a gamebreaking update three times a year. Abandonware. I play on a single server now, mostly trolling with the regulars and playing armor. It's fun for about 10mins per hour, where rest of the time you'll be running accross the map, dying to random shit, spawning back, getting arty'd, spawning back at main, and having the helo pilot decide to fly as high as he can and drop down on the LZ as vertical as possible to get gunned down by AA. All of these happening with 40s respawns.

Depends on gamemode and games can be short if it's a steamroll, the amount of kills you get depends entirely on how good you are, updates are usually pretty solid but some have been pretty rough especially when it comes to balance but things have definitely gotten better and the game as for the game staying alive it survived early access and retains a decent sided player pool especially compared to other games of the same genre.

>i have this problem all the time when i play with my friends.

at least you have friends to play with. i'd people to consistently play with.

its piss easy to make friends in online games user
not to mention you 100% have some friends you used to play games with back in highschool or college, not to mention at least a few coworkers that play games
shit's so easy on the modern internet
i wish i had the fucking time to play singleplayer games

Addicting as fuck
>.t 2800 hours
Literal idiocy: the post

i've sent our FRs but neither they nor i play consistently. im a 30yo guy so my schedule is just all over the place. at the moment, i'm fine with occasional games where the monotony of driving for 5 min in logi and backcapping is broken up with voice chat shitposting and memeing about russo-ukraine war.

Attached: vlcsnap-2022-04-12-23h03m10s258.png (2560x1440, 3.1M)

Tarkov is pretty horrible but I must say that even Tarkov is better than Squad

how is the quality of voice chat shitposting? i dont care if i lose, just want to have a giggle with the lads.

Squad is pretty good if you just want to talk with randoms, a lot of people are really engaged with banting back and forth

>Squad is pretty good if you just want to talk with randoms, a lot of people are really engaged with banting back and forth

yea that's why it's my most-played game at the moment. my fav part is the pre-mission op planning stage, where it's just 300 seconds of non-stop bants. tarkov doesn't have that?

No, tarkov is mostly tryharding, and if you dont tryhard you just die

Yeah the games are fun when each team has 3 infantry based squad leaders who use a logi truck and set up a fob and attack or defend a point. RAAS is good. The mode where you see the enemy cap points is shit. Games collapse when retards go set up 'behind enemy lines' so you are then outnumbered on defense and offense and their 'stealthy tow fob' kills 0 tanks and is useless as you get rolled over.

I like setting up defense on our 2nd point (of 5) and building mortars. You can chill on defense while raining hell on the enemy to support the 2 squads on offense.

Most of the time you'll get 3 retard SL's who all want to attack. Obviously the enemy can just neutralize your 2nd point kill your hab and radio and steamroll you if you do this.

Theres tons of shitters on each team who clump up, dont spread out and basically love to set themselves up to be in a kill box rather than spread out to cover an area.
>SL builds on point
>'everyone keep eyes in all directions'
>1 AT guy runs off into the trees southeast toward next cap point
>i cover southwest
>enemy sneaks a hab north
>5 squadmates chilling in a 5x5 meter square fenced in area jerking each other off
>frag grenade kills them all
>5 enemies in our compound digging down our hab
>giant open field in the north they had to cross
>not a single person watched them cross
>me and AT guy have to run back, wipe them all and res these retards

Pozzed.

Attached: 1629403647071.jpg (1198x1010, 473.85K)

I've had games where I get like 15 kills as infantry, games where I've had like 15 kills firing mortars all round, games where I've sucked shit but stayed on the point and gotten like 2-3 kills but we still won. Sometimes even if you don't get kills, you can still be useful by spotting tanks, habs, finding radios, doing suppressive fire, ressing your team, giving ammo to your AT guy. You get 50 tickets for capping a point, so you can have your entire squad get wiped several times but if you cap it and hold it you still come out ahead.

well fugg. honestly voice chat on squad is as close to 2000s xbox live as it gets. my squad usually performs wel, if not #1 ranked squad by team points then top 3.

>Games collapse when retards go set up 'behind enemy lines' so you are then outnumbered on defense and offense and their 'stealthy tow fob' kills 0 tanks and is useless as you get rolled over.

see, the best part is when BOTH teams are doing exactly that. and my squad has the most fun instead of being angry and autistic about things not going to plan.

>I like setting up defense on our 2nd point (of 5) and building mortars. You can chill on defense while raining hell on the enemy to support the 2 squads on offense.

i find mortars were more fun on PR. i'd like to run a squad with 2 guys on mortars as one fireteam and the rest of the squad in two fireteams calling in targets but it's hard to find people with patience and willingness to cooperate.

They don't understand or refuse to compromise on map design to actually suit the number of players a server can handle. The best multiplier maps from Battlefield games before they went shit over a decade ago abstracted the idea of a large space/place but shrunk it for 64 players. Squad won't do that. Their male are big enough for 500v500 which would be awesome but that's never going to happen. And their relentless push towards becoming more Arma with unfun changes hasn't stopped

It's probably the first game I played over 1000 hours in.

I actually learned social skills from playing as a Squad Leader. I need to be more firm, less indecisive. Relay order in short and clear manner. Respond to your squadmate's call-in. Explain the logic to your order, so your squadmate don't feel like they're being commanded by a tryhard.

in tarkov you can't even play with randoms because if you join a random squad they kill you and they loot you at round start

Dropped.

My neghole twinged

>I actually learned social skills from playing as a Squad Leader. I need to be more firm, less indecisive.

good on you user. for me it was PR, but yea being an SL really helped me socially in alot of way of ways too. the best part is when you start a new map and people from the last game join your squad again because they like the way you play. i've straight up have people tell me they're joining my squad next game.

>Explain the logic to your order, so your squadmate don't feel like they're being commanded by a tryhard.

i went back to watching generation kill, and i learned to inject a bit of humor into giving orders. i'll say shit like "listen you gotta trust me on this, just like my ex. i told her just the tip." and generally stealing voice lines from bf3 like "im getting my shit pushed in over here".

that doesn't sound very fun.

Are you an autistic retard who can't talk on mic or listen to the SL?
if so don't buy it then

worthless as a game. mostly fuctions as VR chat for veterans and retarded military larpers who somehow failed to get into the military for being too fat, too stupid etc

1300h played
It's fun if your squad has capable SL who knows what hes doing

Attached: 1645993305474.jpg (2039x2894, 2.19M)

sending random friends requests =/= making friends user
join a clan or guild
fight with bros
simple as

It's a good game if you like socialising and fucking around with strangers, very strong and good natured community spirit, however logistics are critically important to winning so a lot of players effectively have to sit the game out doing supply runs and building bases and the meta does nothing to punish overextension so it's common to get steamrolled by clan stacks setting up sneaky habs on all of your fallback points. Because of this combat is also really messy and incidental and you rarely get pitched battles.

If you want constant action and a more forgiving meta Hell let loose is a better game built around the same sort of semi realistic framework, I would recommend both games

i dont do random FRs i send FRs after telling them in voice chat.

>very strong and good natured community spirit

lmao
no

Attached: 1616092119064.jpg (1200x1200, 137.59K)

>in Squad you have 32 people to do it
Don't know what kind of crack you have been smoking, but for a really long time servers are 50vs50 with very few exceptions, and the maps feel empty or have too much walking only because people don't utilize vehicles properly.

>i dont do random FRs i send FRs after telling them in voice chat.
same thing tardo

>still no attack helicopters

trash

>people don't utilize vehicles properly.

Because Squad has to poach battlefield and cod players and they've been brainwashed by nuketown and operation metro

It's fun when you're not playing Squad i.e. zombie mode
otherwise a regular Squad match plays like this
>meta rush vehicles to cap objectives in the center of the map
>both logi trucks destroyed by enemy IFV
>IFV gets destroyed by enemy IFV or enemy Light Anti Tank/AT
>-120 points
>SL leaves server
>Commander leaves server
>Spawn camped until next game
If you do make it past the first 2 minutes it's like this
>'Ok we run 30km sw to do a really big flank on their FOB ok?'
>3 squad members leave
>no medics because people want to shoot and have fun
>join new squad that has some stereotypical SL's
>autistic SL
>quiet SL
>both leave the server immediately if their plan fails to play another server where their team is winning
You need to have players who are willing to put up with bullshit and also bullshit themselves, your experience heavily depends on who is in your squad, who is leading the squad, and who the commander is. Losing can be fun but some faggots just leave because they want to see funny number go up.
Alternatively find the zombie server and shoot at naked brown things running at you pic rel
Literally bought Escape From Tarkov today just to play the single player to avoid hackers and meta shitters because I don't have a 10 man streamer gank team to protect me, it's been good, basically playing Stalker but with leveling up RPG stats.

>muh realism
except scaled down 100000x

Squad devs should have released a massive update and put the game on sale after BF2042 came out, but they failed to capitalize on BF's shitty launch

Whatever, 32 or 50 doesnt make any difference. They have gigantic maps for no reason that dont make the gameplay any better, just more tedious.

I disagree, I like the bigger maps better as SL, because I have more options. The smaller maps with 100 players is more action-packed, but feels more cancer than Operation Metro. You can't organize for shit, and it's easy to get mixed with other squads.

With bigger maps, a whole Squad can just take a dedicated trucks, moving from point to point. There is always an opportunity to flank. The only time when it feels tedious if there is no closer spawn, and the team wasted all the vehicles, which at that point, the team deserves it.

It is a good game run by a horrible awful shitty dev company that doesn’t deserve your money.

Honest non retard review of the game
It's good, dedicated player base who are mostly willing to help with learning curve. You need a mic and the a decent attention span because sometimes you're just gonna be waiting to do something or if you're bad waiting at the respawn screen. Learn to listen and take criticism, there's a pretty established meta to the game and people will call you out if you start doing dumb or pointless shit. Best way to play is to float somewhere in-between try hard and retard, learn to have fun but also play the game correctly. There's literally nothing better than ending a round after an hour and half and your team has one more ticket than the other team. There's no incentive for winning, but the people playing are also smart enough and open minded enough to not care about the constant dopamine fix of getting XP and ranking up. The past year was rough because of internal management problems the dev team has been having, but they have a new CEO and finally a major update will come tomorrow (AUS faction and changes to map layers and emplacements). It's fun and worth spending your time playing if you have the ability to communicate with others.

You'll have a more fun experience playing project reality, the battlefield 2 mod Squad is based off of.

>play the game that only occasionally has one full server for NA
>instead of the game that has lots of full servers in every region
I don't entirely disagree though. PR is a great game but if you're outside of NA it's not easy to play.

Big maps = more emphasis on logic, sounds like your logistics system was shit. You gotta have at least 2 spawn points surrounding the current objective. If your team ain't doing logi right, make your own squad and drive the truck yourself, it sure as hell beats walking 5 minutes to objectives

i wish raphi was my squad lead

>logistics
>drive the truck yourself
>walking 5 minutes to objectives
Like I said, tedious shit that noone wants to do since its tedious, and its artificial problem caused by the retard map design, they just wanted to put "we have 120 square kilometers maps! so real!" on the ad, with zero consideration how theres not enough possible playercount to actually populate it properly.

Just play Red Orchestra/Rising Storm instead, they cut out all the fat.
